Lin Hai’s words left everyone present stunned.
“Young Master Lin, what are you—” Ye Ziming asked, puzzled.
Lin Hai smiled slightly, ignored him, and turned to Li Xue, a gleam flashing in his eyes.
“Li Xue, right? I can give you a chance right now to keep Meng Xu from terminating your contract.”
“Really? Thank you, Young Master Lin! Thank you!” Li Xue’s eyes lit up, and she nearly jumped for joy.
“But—” Lin Hai drew the word out.
“Young Master Lin, whatever you want, just say it. No matter what you ask me to do, I’ll agree.” Li Xue gave Lin Hai a suggestive look.
Pfft!
Lin Hai nearly changed his mind on the spot. Damn, what did she take him for?
“You see my brother here—he hit you, and he even tore off his insignia. He could get dragged into this because of it.” Lin Hai pointed at Guo Fei, feigning concern.
“Hit me? No, he didn’t! Young Master Lin, you must be mistaken. I’ve never even met him before—how could he have hit me?” Li Xue said with a fawning smile, shaking her head vigorously.
“Uh—” Guo Fei stood nearby looking completely baffled.
What the hell? Did I beat her senseless earlier?
“Smart! You catch on quick!”
Lin Hai’s eyes lit up, and he nodded in satisfaction.
“But that young soldier at the door earlier—he took quite a bit of grief. Oh, and you were planning to find reporters, right?” Lin Hai suddenly asked.
“Find reporters? Yes, yes, yes, I’m going to find reporters!” Li Xue nodded hurriedly.
Hearing this, Ye Ziming wanted to slap her. Why bring up the reporters again?
“Right, you absolutely must find reporters!” Lin Hai nodded firmly.
“Uh—” Ye Ziming and Guo Fei stood there looking lost. Neither could figure out what Lin Hai and Li Xue were up to.
“And what will you say to the reporters?” Lin Hai asked.
“I’ll find reporters to confess my mistakes. I previously discriminated against our soldiers—that’s a completely wrong mindset. I want to publicly repent. They are worthy of respect and love, and they deserve the respect of the whole society. I’ll also donate money and volunteer for national defense, contributing my own strength to our soldiers.” Li Xue spoke with passion and conviction.
“Very moving. Ms. Li Xue, you’re a great actress!” Lin Hai deliberately emphasized the word “actress.”
Li Xue blushed, knowing Lin Hai was mocking her. But for the sake of her future, she couldn’t afford to care—she could only pretend not to understand.
Guo Fei and Ye Ziming stood nearby, dumbfounded. What the hell were these two doing? How did supporting national defense even come up?
But they quickly understood—the two had reached an agreement in this way.
As long as Li Xue didn’t pursue the matter of Guo Fei hitting her and publicly apologized to the young soldier, Lin Hai would let her off the hook and not have Meng Xu terminate her contract.
Guo Fei stood there, deeply moved, knowing Lin Hai had made this concession for his sake.
“Good. I hope you don’t go back on your word. Otherwise, ruining your reputation would only take one word from me. I don’t know if you believe that?” Lin Hai stared at Li Xue coldly.
“I believe it, I believe it. Don’t worry, Young Master Lin. I, Li Xue, keep my word and will never go back on it. Please give me this chance.” Li Xue nodded hurriedly, pleading repeatedly.
Lin Hai said nothing, but pulled out his phone and dialed Meng Xu.
“Hai-ge.” The call connected quickly, and Meng Xu’s tone was ingratiating.
“About Li Xue—hold off on terminating her contract for now. See how she performs going forward.”
“Oh wow, this little woman is really lucky. I already had the termination contract drafted. Well, I’ll thank Hai-ge on her behalf.” Meng Xu said happily.
“Mm.” Lin Hai hung up.
Li Xue had heard everything from beside him. When she realized Lin Hai really wasn’t letting Meng Xu terminate her contract, she trembled all over with excitement.
“Thank you, Young Master Lin! Thank you!” Li Xue bowed to Lin Hai again and again.
“Alright, don’t forget what you said.” Lin Hai waved his hand.
“I won’t, I won’t forget. Well then, Young Master Lin, I won’t bother you anymore.” Li Xue bowed once more and left happily.
“Lin Hai, what am I supposed to say to you?” Guo Fei smiled wryly.
“If you don’t know what to say, then don’t say anything. You think you’re the only one who can stick up for his brothers? I may not wear that uniform of yours, but the guts in my body might not be any less than yours.” Lin Hai grinned and curled his lip.
“You bastard!” Guo Fei gave Lin Hai a light punch, burying the feeling deep in his heart.
They were both men of guts—some things didn’t need to be said at all.
“Alright, I won’t chat with you anymore. I’m going in to sit with my parents.” After chatting with Guo Fei a while longer, Lin Hai took his leave and entered the gymnasium.
“Lin Hai, where did you go? We didn’t even see you when we came in.” As soon as he arrived, Lin Hai was surrounded by his roommates Wang Peng and the others, along with their girlfriends.
“Oh, you’re all here.” Lin Hai greeted them with a smile.
“Hai-zi, I’ve noticed almost everyone in the first row is one of ours. So badass!” Glasses gave Lin Hai a thumbs-up.
“Of course! Our Hai-zi is the man—if he’s going to sit somewhere, it’s gotta be the first row!” Wang Peng said with a smug shake of his head.
“Hai-zi, haven’t you noticed these guys are all showing off today?” Liu Liang whispered from the side.
Lin Hai looked over. His roommates were indeed different from usual—chests out, heads high, glowing with pride. Their girlfriends were all clingy and sweet, holding onto their boyfriends’ arms with happy smiles.
“Uh—what’s going on? I remember these guys had no status at all when they were with their girlfriends?” Lin Hai was puzzled.
“Haha, it’s all because of the tickets you gave them! First row—money can’t even buy those. These guys’ girlfriends showed off the tickets in front of their roommates and got their vanity fix. Once the girlfriends were satisfied, our dorm brothers’ status naturally rose with the tide.”
“Holy crap, it has that effect?” Lin Hai looked at the sweet couples and was amazed.
“Huh? Liang-zi, who’s that girl next to Wang Pang-zi? Don’t tell me even Wang Pang-zi has a girlfriend now?” Lin Hai just noticed a girl standing next to Wang Peng, and his jaw nearly dropped.
“That girl’s from our school too. Wang Pang-zi is interested in her. Let me tell you—” Liu Liang recounted the whole story of how Wang Peng and the girl met.
Pfft!
After hearing it, Lin Hai nearly burst out laughing.
Damn, this Wang Pang-zi was really something else. After giving her the ticket, he ran back without even asking anything, and even deleted his years of “collection.”
Luckily the girl was decent about it—otherwise he’d have lost out big time.
“Hey, you two are being all sneaky—are you talking bad about me?” Seeing Lin Hai and Liu Liang grinning at him, Wang Peng immediately got wary.
“No, no, we’re so pure—how could we talk bad about someone behind their back? We were just discussing how you’ve memorized hundreds of those collection moves and techniques. We’re wondering how many you’ve tried out so far?” Lin Hai said, suppressing a laugh.
“What moves and techniques?” Before Wang Peng could speak, the girl suddenly asked curiously.
“Don’t listen to them—they’re not good people. Let’s stay away from them in the future.” Wang Peng said with a dark face.
“No, seriously, what techniques? Martial arts? I like martial arts too! We should spar sometime.” The girl said innocently.
Pfft!
Wang Peng nearly spat out his drink.
“Spar? Spar a bit?” Wang Peng stammered.
“Yeah.” The girl nodded.
Wang Peng’s big eyes instantly filled with peach blossoms, and a sleazy grin spread across his face.
“You really want to spar?”
