“Yu Xiaoduo! I’m in this state, and you’re still trying to upset me.”
The men getting IV drips around them all gave him a thumbs-up. This guy was something else—his girlfriend was mad, and he was just adding fuel to the fire. Was this some kind of new strategy?
“I was just making a comparison. Even pork has a shelf life, right?”
“You’re the pig!”
“Right, right, right. I’m the pig, and you’re the cabbage.”
Gu Wan’er: “…” Not a single word directly aimed at her, but every single one made her blood boil.
“Wan’er, if you behave, I’ll stay with you all night. How about that?”
“Can I kick you?”
“Go ahead.”
“If you fight back, you’re not human.”
“Deal.”
Seeing that Gu Wan’er was starting to give in, Yu Xiaoduo quickly called the nurse over. “You can stick her now.”
Gu Wan’er: “…”
Gu Wan’er squeezed her eyes shut and refused to look. Her other hand suddenly grabbed Yu Xiaoduo’s thigh hard. Yu Xiaoduo felt lucky—if she’d grabbed a little to the side, she’d have crushed something important.
It’s just a shot. Why get so scared?
The nurse shook her head. The girlfriend was this terrified, and the boyfriend didn’t even comfort her. He just sat there like he was watching a show.
“All done. It’s fine now.” Yu Xiaoduo patted Gu Wan’er’s hand. Thanks to her, his thigh was already bruised.
Gu Wan’er slowly calmed down, but she still wouldn’t give Yu Xiaoduo a pleasant look. Still, she obediently took her medicine.
About ten minutes later, Gu Wan’er grew drowsy. After a while, she slowly leaned her head against Yu Xiaoduo’s shoulder.
Yu Xiaoduo was a bit surprised. Sleeping, Gu Wan’er looked much more comfortable—almost like Sister Yun’er.
Time passed minute by minute. When Gu Wan’er woke up, she had a thin blanket over her, but Yu Xiaoduo was nowhere in sight. She immediately cursed him in her heart. She knew it—the guy was just pretending to care. Heartless. He’d actually run off.
“Miss, your boyfriend went to buy you some food,” an auntie next to her said with a smile.
“Oh… oh.” Hearing that made Gu Wan’er feel much better. Just then, she saw Yu Xiaoduo appear at the entrance holding a plastic bag. Gu Wan’er immediately shut her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
The auntie chuckled to herself. Young people these days—she really couldn’t figure them out.
Following the doctor’s advice, Yu Xiaoduo bought some light congee.
Suddenly, Yu Xiaoduo noticed the auntie next to him making eyes at him. At first, he didn’t get it—he thought she might have gotten something in her eye. Only later did he realize she was actually flirting with him. Being handsome really was such a burden. Sigh.
After sitting down, Yu Xiaoduo took out his phone and started texting, occasionally letting out a “hehe” laugh.
This made Gu Wan’er very confused. You came back with all this good food, so why aren’t you waking me up?
She couldn’t help but sneak a peek. Turns out, the guy was chatting on WeChat—and it was with Sister Bai, no less.
“General Gu, I didn’t know you had a habit of peeking at other people’s messages,” Yu Xiaoduo said with a chuckle, having spotted Gu Wan’er’s reflection on his phone screen.
Gu Wan’er rolled her eyes and said, “Who was peeking? That’s nonsense.”
“How are you feeling? Still in pain?”
Gu Wan’er was about to say it didn’t hurt anymore, but then she thought she hadn’t been waited on enough by Yu Xiaoduo yet, so she quickly changed her answer. “It still hurts a little.”
“Then I’ll go ask the doctor. He might say surgery is needed.”
The moment Gu Wan’er heard the word “surgery,” she got scared. She quickly grabbed Yu Xiaoduo. “It’s just a tiny bit. It’ll go away after I take the medicine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Mm.”
“Have some congee first. You haven’t eaten all day. You’re not even pretty anymore.” Yu Xiaoduo took the congee out of the plastic bag and got a spoon ready.
Gu Wan’er said unhappily, “What does my being pretty or not have to do with you?”
“How does it not have to do with me? What if I turn back into my old self tomorrow and don’t get any second looks anymore?”
Gu Wan’er immediately rolled her eyes. Fine, forget it. She couldn’t be bothered to argue. Filling her stomach was more important.
Then Yu Xiaoduo said in a low voice, “See that auntie across from us? She just flirted with me.”
“Cough, cough, cough!” Gu Wan’er choked right away, tears streaming down her face. Suddenly, she realized that if she stayed with Yu Xiaoduo too long, she might just die unexpectedly one day. That fat guy Zhao Liang must have a really strong constitution.
“Oh, take it easy. Slow down,” Yu Xiaoduo said, gently patting Gu Wan’er’s back. Look how hungry the poor kid was.
“Yu Xiaoduo, can you not say random things while I’m eating?”
“Fine.” After saying that, Yu Xiaoduo took a few more boxes out of the bag. When he opened them, the aroma was amazing.
Garlic crayfish, grilled oysters, and grilled pig trotters.
Gu Wan’er looked at her plain congee and suddenly felt like it wasn’t so appetizing anymore. “I want some crawfish.”
“Not a chance. The doctor said you can only eat light foods for the next few days.”
“If you hadn’t made us eat all that random stuff last night, would I be suffering like this?”
“Still not happening.”
“Then I’m not eating!” Gu Wan’er said stubbornly, meaning to say, I’ll starve myself and see what you do about it.
Yu Xiaoduo wasn’t about to spoil her. He sat right next to her, eating and drinking deliciously, which made Gu Wan’er want to hit him. He was deliberately eating tasty things just to torment her.
Then Yu Xiaoduo peeled a piece of crawfish meat and said, “General Gu, look at this meat. So plump, so fragrant, so tender and smooth. It’s really amazing, you know?”
“I’ll strangle you, you awful man.”
“Ahhh, I’m dying, I’m dying.”
The auntie across from them sighed. This young couple really had such a lovely relationship. Their playful bickering was truly enviable.
It was already past seven in the evening when they finished with Gu Wan’er’s IV. She no longer felt any pain and was completely relaxed.
“Little Wan’er, want a hug?” Yu Xiaoduo teased as he stood up.
Gu Wan’er rolled her eyes. So you just like making fun of me, huh? “Yes.”
The corner of Yu Xiaoduo’s mouth twitched. He’d only been joking—he didn’t expect her to actually say yes. “Just kidding. Let me take you home.”
“I have no energy.”
“You’re lying. When you pinched me just now, you tried to tear my flesh off.”
Gu Wan’er laughed inwardly. So Yu Xiaoduo was all talk after all. He didn’t actually dare.
Seeing that strange look in Gu Wan’er’s eyes, Yu Xiaoduo instantly realized he’d been played. Comrade Gu Wan’er, you want a hug so badly? Fine, I’ll give you what you want.
To Gu Wan’er’s surprise, Yu Xiaoduo suddenly swept her up in a princess carry. Startled, Gu Wan’er quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. “Put me down!”
“Put you down? I’m your boyfriend. You admitted it yourself last night, everyone. Isn’t that right?” Yu Xiaoduo’s face was as thick as the walls in Attack on Titan. The guys around them immediately chimed in agreement, making Gu Wan’er want to disappear into the ground.
Heh, trying to play games with me, Yu Xiaoduo? You’re all too green.
When they reached the parking lot, Yu Xiaoduo finally put her down. Gu Wan’er immediately stomped on his foot. “Go die!” With that, she stormed off in a huff.
“Comrade Gu Wan’er, that shy little look of yours just now was pretty cute, you know.”
Gu Wan’er: “…”
“And hey, the car’s over here. Where are you running off to?”
Gu Wan’er let out a delicate snort. “I’ll walk home myself. None of your business!”
“Fine then.”
A moment later, Gu Wan’er just stood there watching Yu Xiaoduo drive away. She cursed him out in her mind over and over. He actually left.
