The medical bay of the spaceship was located on the deck slightly above the center of the hull, allowing for quick access during emergencies while also maintaining a safe distance from the potentially hazardous engine area and cargo hold.
Two army commanders led the way, and Lin Xiaohe walked along obediently.
After merging with the [Source Body] of the Rockrace, she could analyze the material composition of the space fleet at a single glance. For the simple composite materials used to make the cabin doors, she could briefly channel her power to temporarily merge her body with the material, allowing her to pass through the doors at will.
But right now, there was no need to do that.
Passing through one automatic sensor sliding door after another, and after a brief disinfection and cleaning, they entered the medical bay.
The room’s main colors were white and light blue, similar to the intensive care units on Blue Star. The overall atmosphere leaned toward calm and professional.
The floor was made of non-slip, slightly resilient rubber-like material, while the ceiling and walls were lined with smooth, seamless antimicrobial composite materials. The lighting was a comfortable cool white.
Lin Xiaohe looked around carefully.
Limited by materials and the level of industrial development, the medical system on Kyushu Star was severely polarized.
Stardust humans relied on their own immunity for minor illnesses and went to the Life Safety Center for major ones.
Ordinary humans had it even harder.
Old Blackie was always complaining about the Life Safety Center—overworked, understaffed, and lacking both instruments and medicine.
Lin Xiaohe glanced at the various instruments in the space capsule and finally understood Old Blackie’s plight of “a clever woman can’t cook without rice.”
Even just in the triage room, there was a multi-functional vital signs monitor, an automated diagnostic bed, emergency triangular support pillars, biohazard treatment units, and more.
Seeing Lin Xiaohe’s interest, the Fifth Star Ring Army Commander gestured for the medical officer to give an introduction.
The medical officer said, “The Fifth Star Ring Military District has a partnership with Xinghui Life Sciences. This is their latest embedded multi-functional vital signs monitor from back then. After the patient enters, it can quickly scan heart rate, blood pressure, neural activity, and more, without contact or blood draws.”
Lin Xiaohe’s eyes lit up—this thing was efficient and would be perfect for the ordinary humans of Kyushu Star!
The medical officer pointed to the two beds on the other side: “Automated diagnostic beds with built-in sensors that can work with handheld scanners used by medical staff for in-depth diagnosis.”
Oh! This was great too—the ordinary humans of Kyushu Star desperately needed this.
Just the triage area alone had so many good things. After Lin Xiaohe entered the main treatment area, she was even more dazzled by what she saw.
“Central operating table, equipped with a holographic projection system that can project the patient’s 3D anatomical structure in real-time above the patient’s body, making it easier for doctors to perform visual operations.”
“There are multiple robotic arm interfaces around it for installing multi-functional surgical arms.” The medical officer pressed a button.
From around the platform and from the ceiling, numerous robotic arms descended, equipped with laser scalpels, nano-suturing devices, tissue regeneration spray dispensers, and more.
Lin Xiaohe had seen this at Old Blackie’s clinic on the Wasteland Star, but that clinic only had two robotic arms, not as many as here.
The medical officer tapped on the virtual light screen in front of the operating table.
A frosted, invisible barrier slowly rose, enclosing the entire operating table: “A sterile force field generator that effectively isolates microorganisms.”
“Tissue regeneration and bioprinter…”
After seeing all of this, Lin Xiaohe felt a deep sense of guilt toward Old Blackie. It really was tough on him.
It’s easy to go from simple to luxurious, but hard to go from luxurious to simple.
The fact that he could stay so long at that makeshift Life Safety Center was all thanks to his passion and loyalty!
Lin Xiaohe asked softly, “How is Xinghui Life doing?”
The Fifth Star Ring Army Commander was a shrewd man. The moment Lin Xiaohe showed a hint of interest, he knew what she wanted.
“Xinghui Life had stored a lot of Zerg blood due to illegal experiments, which caused a Zerg swarm to descend upon them early in the war.”
He slowed his pace, using the corner of his eye to gauge Lin Xiaohe’s expression: “But after all, it’s a major conglomerate in the Federation. With rescue efforts that spared no expense, the upper management and chief research team of Xinghui Life were all taken to Tigre Star.”
Lin Xiaohe frowned.
The last message from Kaelin·Reynolds surfaced in her mind.
Unless it was absolutely necessary, she would never have abandoned the Reynolds Group.
It was a pity that Kaelin·Reynolds still hadn’t woken up; otherwise, she could have asked about the current state of the First Star Ring and Tigre.
Lin Xiaohe pondered for a moment and continued, “What about those instruments…”
The Fifth Star Ring Army Commander shook his head with regret: “The Zerg have caused too much damage to the Federation’s infrastructure and industrial systems. The Third, Fourth, and Fifth Star Rings no longer have the industrial systems needed to produce high-precision medical instruments.”
It wasn’t just a technical issue—there was also the problem of raw materials!
Many of the rare minerals needed for composite metal materials were only found on a few planets, and in low yields.
But the Zerg didn’t care whether a mineral was common or rare—in their eyes, everything was on the menu!
Simply put, many of the Federation’s existing high-precision industrial products could no longer be manufactured.
Even the spaceship they were on, if it encountered a malfunction and needed replacement parts, could only use inferior substitutes. Some parts didn’t even have substitutes, so they had to abandon that function entirely.
To put it bluntly, the Zerg invasion had set back human technology by at least several hundred years.
Lin Xiaohe expressed deep regret. The Federation government was annoying, but their tech products were sometimes quite nice.
The Fifth Star Ring Army Commander said casually, as if it didn’t matter, “The First Star Ring, especially Tigre Star, serves as humanity’s final sanctuary, storing tens of thousands of years’ worth of technological achievements and products. Some of them, we’ve never even heard of.”
Lin Xiaohe glanced at him and simply said, “Oh.”
Some things, when repeated too often, become all too obvious.
The Fifth Star Ring Army Commander said no more and continued leading the way.
“The chief of staff is named Eisen. He’s your alumnus and an outstanding soldier.”
The group arrived at the observation area.
Two large rows of medical hibernation pods were placed here. The several severely wounded survivors of the 53rd Division all lay inside the pods.
The pods contained nutrient fluids and medications, and the patients would enter a low-temperature hibernation state to buy time for organ regeneration.
Eisen was in better condition. He lay in another medical pod, undergoing nanobot therapy.
The medical officer checked Eisen’s status on a tablet: “The nerve endings in both his hands are severed, and there’s a blood clot in his cerebral blood vessels. The nanobots are currently clearing the clot and repairing the nerves. Progress is at 99.8%. In about ten more minutes, he’ll be able to leave the pod.”
Eisen felt heavy-hearted. Of the 53rd Division’s space forces, only a few of them were left.
Had Lin Xiaohe successfully evolved? Had the Zerg been defeated? What would humanity do from here on out?
He let out a silent sigh, and just then, he saw a group of people walk in.
The one at the front—could that be Lin Xiaohe?!
Goodness gracious!
Eisen’s eyes widened as big as bells, and he nearly forgot he was still inside the medical pod, struggling to get out.
The Fifth Star Ring Military District Commander quickly raised his hand and made a pressing-down motion: “Take it easy. We’ll wait for you right here.”
After saying that, he turned to Lin Xiaohe and explained, “Eisen’s family was deceived by followers of the Anidam Cult and taken to the First Star Ring. Their whereabouts are unknown. If you can, could you please help him?”
