“Xia Yue, come to my office for a moment.”
The two-day exam period ended quickly. Xia Xi felt like all he did the whole time was mindlessly write down answers based on the knowledge the system gave him, plus play with the cat, eat, and sleep.
Bai Xiaocha had also confirmed that Xia Xi truly did hand in his paper early for every single subject.
After all the exams were over, Bai Xiaocha was actually pretty moved. After all, her dear bestie had apparently scribbled down random answers on purpose just so she could hand in the paper early and make sure Bai Xiaocha got to eat hot food without waiting in line.
But when she heard the homeroom teacher call “Xia Yue” to the office, she couldn’t help but feel a little worried.
I mean, handing in every exam early—there’s no way that looks like anything other than guessing randomly. Getting called to the teacher’s office definitely meant nothing good.
Just imagining the almighty little demon king Xia Yue getting chewed out by the teacher made Bai Xiaocha want to laugh… ahem, cry. Her bestie was in trouble, so of course she was heartbroken~
“Alright, talk. Why did you hand in your paper early for every subject?”
The teacher tapped the desk lightly with his index finger. The dok dok dok sound was pretty intimidating.
If the real Xia Yue had been standing there, she might have already turned pale from fear. Then again, knowing that little mischievous girl, she might have just smiled and acted cheeky instead.
Either way, this act didn’t work on Xia Xi. He was a college student about to graduate. How could he be scared by a homeroom teacher who wasn’t even that much older than him?
Besides, what could a high school homeroom teacher even threaten him with? Confiscating a phone? Calling a parent? The phone belonged to Xia Yue, not him, so who cares? And as for calling a parent… call myself?
“I didn’t do anything wrong. I finished, so I handed it in. Is there a problem?”
Seeing “Xia Yue” looking completely unrepentant and indifferent, the teacher got angry—but only for a second.
He didn’t really have a good way to deal with this student.
From what he knew, Xia Yue only had an older brother at home. An older brother who wasn’t much older than her, raising her through high school and into college. The hardship there went without saying. So the teacher really didn’t want to call her guardian.
Besides, handing in papers early was ultimately just an attitude problem. A teacher’s job was to educate and correct. He just hoped the student would actually listen…
For a moment, the teacher thought about all of this. Finally, his expression softened, and he spoke gently.
“Xia Yue, I don’t know the exact details of your family situation, but your brother has worked so hard to raise you. Even if you don’t care about yourself, you should at least care about him.
When it comes to exams, even if you don’t know how to solve the problems, you should still take them seriously. Afterward, you can go back and review what you missed, then try again. There’s still plenty of time before the college entrance exam. No need to give up on yourself.”
It was clear the teacher genuinely wanted Xia Yue to do well.
With her, Bai Xiaocha, and Leng Xiyu—who hadn’t shown up for a week—all three problem students in one class. Any teacher would have a headache.
“Teacher, you don’t need to say all that. I really did answer every question properly this time. It’s not what you think—I’m not giving up on myself.”
Seeing such a good teacher care so much about his sister, Xia Xi felt relieved. He looked at the teacher’s face and let out a helpless sigh.
He didn’t know who started the idea that turning in an exam early automatically meant the student didn’t care.
“But I heard you finished the Chinese exam in sixty minutes and wanted to hand it in. Isn’t that just ridiculous?”
The teacher clearly didn’t believe Xia Xi.
“Okay then. If you don’t believe me, let’s make a bet. Once the results come out, if my score is in the top ten of the grade, you give me back my phone. If I’m not in the top ten, I’ll come to the office every day and study right in front of you.”
That’s right—Xia Yue’s phone had been confiscated by the teacher right after the exams ended.
The school was pretty strict about phones. At most, students were allowed to bring an MP3 for English listening practice, or a basic old-person phone to contact family.
“Fine.”
Since the student was willing to make a bet like this, the teacher had no reason to refuse. Either way, win or lose, it would be good for his student.
——-
After the exams came a rare monthly break.
Normally, since the entrance exams were right around the corner, most students weren’t planning to go home. They would stay and sleep at school instead.
But this time, Xia Xi insisted on going home.
After all, he and Xia Yue were in the middle of a body swap. There was no way he was going to stay as Xia Yue all the way until the entrance exams.
No way! If he had to be a high school girl for months, he’d rather just wear a maid outfit at home and serve Luo Xinyu!
Of course, he wasn’t going to do either of those things. He was a manly man!!!
When Bai Xiaocha heard that Xia Xi was going home, she decided to go home too.
According to her, if she was left alone at school, she’d die of boredom.
Leng Xiyu was nowhere to be found—hadn’t come to school at all. The only person who could keep her company was Xia Yue. And now Xia Yue was leaving too. So why would she stay?
And then…
“Why… why are there two Xia Yues?!!”
Bai Xiaocha’s brain short-circuited.
She had followed Xia Xi to the house near the school that Luo Xinyu bought. But when she walked in, she saw another Xia Yue lying on the bed playing games—messy hair, clothes all disheveled, not even wearing pants!
“Yo, Xiaocha, you’re on break?”
Xia Yue put down her phone, ignoring her teammates yelling at her in whatever game she was playing. She ran over to Bai Xiaocha barefoot and rubbed her smooth cheek against Bai Xiaocha’s.
“Xia Yue, when did you learn shadow clone jutsu?!”
It had been a long time since Bai Xiaocha had been physically affectionate with Xia Yue. Ever since Xia Yue hurt her foot last time, their close interactions at school had become much fewer.
So now, being hugged face-to-face by a mischievous little gremlin like this actually felt kind of nostalgic.
“No wonder you were so confident during the exams. You made yourself a smart clone.”
After the face-rubbing session was over, Bai Xiaocha pushed Xia Yue away, her eyes full of curiosity.
“You dummy, Xiaocha. That’s not a clone. That’s my brother.”
“Your brother? Xia Xi gege?”
Bai Xiaocha tilted her head and looked at the “Xia Xi” still sleeping on the other side of the bed. Then she looked at the “Xia Yue” standing next to her wearing a school uniform. Her brain was a complete mess.
“Wait, isn’t your brother still sleeping? And… wait a minute. You’re sharing a bed with Xia Xi gege? Do you two always sleep together like that?”
Xia Yue ignored the flood of questions. Instead, she walked over and grabbed Xia Xi’s face with her hand.
“You dumb loli. They’re just wearing skin suits that let them turn into other people!”
