My Amazing WeChat is Connected to the Three Realms - Chapter 23
After spending a few days with his parents and leaving them a substantial sum of money, Lin Hai prepared to return to the city. He called Xiao Qingshan, who also needed a ride back, so they decided to travel together.
The journey was filled with laughter and conversation, creating a harmonious atmosphere between the two.
As they exited the highway, Lin Hai noticed a military SUV with a government license plate parked at the toll booth. Standing beside the vehicle was a middle-aged soldier with two bars and four stars on his shoulder.
“Stop the car!” Lin Hai’s vehicle was abruptly halted.
The soldier jogged over and opened the car door.
“Greetings, sir! Zhan Xiangrong, Commander of the Jiangnan Military District, reporting for duty!”
Zhan Xiangrong snapped a crisp salute, standing ramrod straight.
At that moment, Xiao Wang, the driver of the Audi A8 parked nearby, rushed over.
“Sir, I already told Commander Zhan not to come, but…”
“Enough. If he listened to you, it would be a miracle,” Xiao Qingshan interrupted before Xiao Wang could finish.
Zhan Xiangrong grinned broadly. “Hehe, the boss knows me well. Please, sir, your car is ready.”
“No need. I’m not done chatting with Xiao Lin. We’ll ride in his car,” Xiao Qingshan waved his hand dismissively.
Zhan Xiangrong hesitated for a moment, then opened the passenger door of Lin Hai’s car.
“You, get out!”
“Sorry, my duty is to protect the boss,” Xiao Wu, the bodyguard, didn’t budge.
“Damn it, I was guarding the boss when you were still in diapers! Move aside. As long as I’m alive, the boss is safe.”
“Enough, Xiao Wu. Let him in,” Xiao Qingshan ordered. Reluctantly, Xiao Wu stepped out of the car.
Zhan Xiangrong chuckled and slid into the passenger seat.
“You’re a commander now. Why are you still so reckless?” Xiao Qingshan frowned, scolding him.
“Hehe, being a commander doesn’t change anything. If war breaks out again, I’ll resign and take a bullet for you, boss.”
As Lin Hai drove, he listened to Zhan Xiangrong’s words. There was no hint of flattery, only genuine emotion.
“But boss, I’m really upset today. You came to Jiangnan and didn’t even notify me. It’s been ten years since I last saw you.”
What happened next left Lin Hai in disbelief.
Zhan Xiangrong, the tough military man, pouted like a child, his eyes reddening as tears streamed down his face.
“Stop crying! You’re a grown man now. Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?” Xiao Qingshan scolded loudly, but Lin Hai noticed through the rearview mirror that Xiao Qingshan’s eyes were also glistening with tears.
Lin Hai couldn’t help but feel moved. This, perhaps, was the bond of comradeship.
The car drove straight into the Jiangnan Military District compound.
“Xiao Lin, I never thought that at my age, I’d meet someone like you who I can connect with so well. I’m truly happy.”
“It’s an honor to have met you, Elder Xiao.”
Xiao Qingshan patted Lin Hai’s shoulder and turned to Zhan Xiangrong. “Xiao Zhan, Jiangnan is your territory. If Xiao Lin ever needs help, you must assist him.”
Zhan Xiangrong stood at attention and thumped his chest. “Boss, don’t worry. From now on, Xiao Lin’s matters are my matters. If anyone dares to mess with him, I’ll lead my troops and crush them!”
“Enough of that nonsense!” Xiao Qingshan glared. “You’re still as reckless as ever! But if Xiao Lin faces any trouble under your watch, don’t ever come to see me again.”
Lin Hai was deeply moved. This elder, whom he had only known for a few days, cared for him so much. With his words, Lin Hai felt like he could walk sideways through Jiangnan without fear.
After bidding farewell to Xiao Qingshan and Zhan Xiangrong, Lin Hai returned to school.
His roommate, Wang Peng, and the others were likely out having fun, as the dorm was empty.
“I’m back,” Lin Hai sent a message to Liu Xinyue on WeChat.
After waiting for a long time with no reply, Lin Hai decided to message Bald Qiang.
“Any news on the house?”
Before leaving, Lin Hai had asked Bald Qiang to look for a good property in Jiangnan. In a month, Yunyun would be taking her college entrance exams and, if all went well, would be attending university in Jiangnan. Lin Hai planned to buy a villa so he could move his parents to the city and let them enjoy a comfortable life together.
“Myth KTV, Master’s wife is in danger.”
Bald Qiang’s reply came quickly, but the content sent a chill down Lin Hai’s spine.
Without a second thought, Lin Hai rushed downstairs, jumped into his car, and sped toward Myth KTV.
—
Inside a dimly lit private room at Myth KTV, Liu Xinyue and her dormmates stood in a corner, their faces filled with anger.
“Master Hu, give me some face…”
“Shut the hell up! What face do you have? Get lost!” Before Bald Qiang could finish, Hu Wei kicked him, sending him stumbling.
Bald Qiang’s eyes flashed with fury, but he quickly suppressed it. The Hu family wasn’t someone a small-time thug like him could afford to offend.
“Master Hu, let’s not make a scene today. I’ll treat you to some drinks and find you some pretty girls…”
“Smack!” Hu Wei smashed a beer bottle over Bald Qiang’s head.
Blood immediately streamed down his face.
“Are you leaving or not?” Hu Wei picked up another bottle, his expression menacing.
Bald Qiang licked the blood from his lips, his inner rage boiling over.
“Master Hu, unless you kill me today, I’m not backing down…”
“Smack!” Hu Wei swung the bottle again.
Bald Qiang suddenly laughed. “Hahaha…”
“You think this is funny?”
“Smack!” Another bottle shattered.
“Master Hu, even a clay figure has some temper. My life’s worthless, but if I die, I’ll make sure you’re covered in blood…”
“Bloody hell!”
“Smack!” Another bottle broke.
“Screw you!” Bald Qiang snapped, kicking Hu Wei to the ground.
“Damn it, he hit Master Hu! Kill him!”
Hu Wei’s lackeys rushed forward, and a brawl broke out.
Bald Qiang fought fiercely, taking down two of them, but he was outnumbered. Soon, he was overpowered and beaten to the ground.
“Beat him to death! I’ll take responsibility!” Hu Wei spat, climbing to his feet.
—
The door to the private room was suddenly kicked open.
Lin Hai stormed in, his face a mask of fury.
“Lin Hai!” Liu Xinyue’s heart leaped with relief at the sight of him. At the same time, an inexplicable wave of washed over her, and tears streamed down her face.
Earlier that day, Liu Xinyue and her dormmates had gone to Myth KTV to celebrate Liu Jing’s birthday. While singing, Liu Xinyue had stepped out to take a call, where she was spotted by Zhao Lei, who was also at the KTV with Hu Wei and his gang.
Zhao Lei, who had been trying to win over Wang Ting for the upcoming singing competition, immediately informed Hu Wei about Liu Xinyue’s presence. Hu Wei and his gang then cornered Liu Xinyue and her friends in the private room.
Coincidentally, Bald Qiang, who had once been a small-time thug, had a friend working as a security guard at Myth KTV. He had come to visit his friend and happened to see Hu Wei and his gang barging into Liu Xinyue’s room. Having already decided to follow Lin Hai as his master, Bald Qiang couldn’t stand by and watch Liu Xinyue, his “master’s wife,” get into trouble.
Just as he was about to intervene, he received Lin Hai’s message. After a quick reply, he charged into the private room.
Hu Wei had been forcing Liu Xinyue to drink when Bald Qiang stepped in, pushing Hu Wei away and shielding Liu Xinyue and her friends.
Lin Hai, unaware of the details, was relieved to see Liu Xinyue unharmed. But then he noticed a group of people beating someone in the corner of the room.
“Lin Hai, save Bald Qiang! He’s protecting me, and they’re going to kill him!” Liu Xinyue cried out.
“What?!”
No wonder he hadn’t seen Bald Qiang earlier—he was the one being beaten.
In a flash, Lin Hai lunged into the fray.
The sound of fists and bodies colliding filled the room. In mere moments, Hu Wei’s gang was sprawled on the floor, groaning in pain.
Lin Hai finally saw Bald Qiang, his face covered in blood, lying on the ground, his body twitching, his pupils dilated.
“Damn it!” Lin Hai cursed under his breath, hoisting Bald Qiang onto his shoulders and rushing out.
“Lin Hai, how dare you…”
“Go to hell!” Lin Hai kicked Hu Wei, sending him flying.
“Qiang, hang in there!” Lin Hai shouted as he drove, Bald Qiang lying unconscious in the back seat.
Liu Xinyue sat in the passenger seat, tears streaming down her face. Bald Qiang had been beaten to a pulp because of her.
“Master, I’m sorry… I couldn’t protect your wife…” Bald Qiang murmured before passing out.
“Qiang, wake up! You wanted to be my disciple, right? I accept you! Wake the hell up!”
But no matter how much Lin Hai shouted, Bald Qiang remained unresponsive.
—
The car screeched to a halt outside the emergency room of the First People’s Hospital.
Lin Hai carried Bald Qiang inside, his mind consumed by a single thought: If anything happened to Bald Qiang, Hu Wei would pay with his blood.
