The next day, Luo Ming and Lin Shuwen once again came to Fudan University.
This time, perhaps because Luo Ming was there, Wang Nan seemed very restrained. She didn’t have any episodes at all and greeted Luo Ming very politely.
“So you must be President Luo? I’ve heard Wenwen talk about you.”
“Hello, Miss Wang. Wenwen has mentioned you to me as well.”
After the two exchanged a few simple pleasantries, Wang Nan got down to business: “Professor Wu is already waiting for you in his office. Let’s head over now.”
“Thanks for the trouble, senior.”
“Oh, don’t be so polite! You and I are hardly strangers. By the way, Wenwen, I remember you told me last time that President Luo’s company is in the gaming industry, right?”
Lin Shuwen nodded.
“Since it’s a gaming company, why does President Luo want to invest in big data algorithms?”
“I think I should answer this one. I believe big data algorithms are the next big trend on the internet.” Luo Ming then repeated to Wang Nan what he had told Lin Shuwen the night before, though with some rather important details edited out.
After hearing this, Wang Nan frowned slightly. “President Luo, I roughly understand your thinking, but I don’t quite agree with your viewpoint.”
“Which part doesn’t Miss Wang agree with?”
“I don’t think big data algorithms are suitable for large-scale promotion and use.”
“And your reason?”
“The reason is simple. Once big data algorithms really develop the way you describe, they will inevitably become a tool for capital to control the market, and might even affect fair competition in the market.
At the same time, the more big data algorithms are promoted, the harder it becomes to guarantee ordinary people’s privacy, and they won’t even have a choice. By then, some capitalists might even jump out and say that ordinary people are willing to trade their privacy for convenience.”
After hearing Wang Nan’s words, Luo Ming felt a bit more admiration for her. Lin Shuwen’s senior really had something about her!
Just from his few words, she had already deduced how big data algorithms would develop once accepted by the market.
“So how does Miss Wang think we should avoid this situation?”
Wang Nan thought for a moment, then shook her head. “It can’t be avoided. Unless you cut it off at the source and simply don’t develop big data algorithms at all.”
“That’s impossible.”
“Then we can only hope that a conscientious businessman gets hold of this technology. President Luo, do you think you’re that kind of businessman?”
“People change. I wouldn’t dare say what I’ll be like in the future. But at least for now, I will place some restrictions on the development of big data algorithms.”
Hearing this, Wang Nan smiled. She turned to Lin Shuwen and said, “Wenwen, your business partner isn’t bad. I approve of him.”
“Senior, he convinced you with just a few sentences?” Lin Shuwen asked, stunned for a moment.
“I’m approving your judgment. As for your little boyfriend, I trust him unconditionally.”
“Wha—what little boyfriend? Senior, don’t say things like that.”
“I’ve been through this myself, you know. I still have that kind of eye.”
Lin Shuwen blushed and lowered her head, no longer arguing.
Between her and Luo Ming, only that thin layer of window paper remained to be broken. In a sense, what her senior said wasn’t wrong.
Luo Ming didn’t argue either. He had already pictured Lin Shuwen as a virtuous wife and loving mother cooking for him, so why would he argue?
Led by Wang Nan, the two once again arrived at Professor Wu’s office.
Today, Professor Wu’s office didn’t just have him in it. There was also another middle-aged man with a refined air, as well as a young man in his twenties.
As soon as Luo Ming and Lin Shuwen entered, Professor Wu immediately stood up. After a round of pleasantries, they introduced themselves to each other.
These two were both members of Professor Wu’s big data research group.
The middle-aged man was Liu Mingzhe, a teacher of data structures in Fudan University’s Computer Science Department, while the young man was Zhou Yi, a doctoral student under Professor Wu.
Liu Mingzhe looked to be around forty. At that age, he definitely wouldn’t recognize Lin Shuwen.
As for Zhou Yi, from the moment Lin Shuwen entered, his eyes hadn’t left her. He had clearly recognized her.
Feeling Zhou Yi’s gaze, Lin Shuwen politely nodded in acknowledgment.
Seeing this, Zhou Yi flushed with excitement. One look and it was obvious he was a fan of Lin Shuwen.
Professor Wu didn’t notice Zhou Yi’s little reactions. He was busy explaining to Luo Ming why Liu Mingzhe and Zhou Yi were there.
“President Luo, our cooperation is not just between me personally and your company, but between the entire research group and your company. So I invited the two more important members of the group as well. I hope President Luo doesn’t mind.”
Luo Ming waved his hand without a care. “I understand, Professor Wu. Let’s get straight to business.”
Hearing Luo Ming say that, Professor Wu felt relieved and directly took out a folder. “President Luo, this is our research group’s estimated project funding. Every item has a detailed plan. You can take a look.”
Luo Ming took the folder and opened it. Just as Professor Wu had said, the folder listed the research group’s expected expenses very clearly. Apart from a few rather special items, all of them were exact spending figures.
Just from this alone, it was clear that Professor Wu’s research group was very sincere about this cooperation.
Luo Ming quickly flipped to the end. The total investment needed by the entire research group was 8.3735 million yuan.
“Professor Wu, there are a few things here I don’t quite understand.”
After that, Luo Ming raised his own opinions on some of the items in the folder.
Professor Wu answered them one by one.
During their back-and-forth, Professor Wu quickly became certain that this young man, like Miss Lin before him, understood big data algorithms very well. In fact, when it came to certain ideas and applications of big data algorithms, he was even more advanced than Professor Wu himself.
This made Professor Wu even more satisfied with the cooperation. If it were some companies or individuals, they probably wouldn’t like working with experts.
The more someone understood, the less room there was for them to maneuver.
Take interior decoration, for example. For some decoration companies, clients who understand home renovation and clients who don’t are completely different concepts.
Generally speaking, as soon as the two sides come into contact, the decoration company will get a rough sense of the client’s background, then adjust their approach accordingly. For those who understand renovation, they use one story; for those who don’t, they use another. Once they’ve fooled the client, the profit margin appears.
But for a research group at a prestigious university like Professor Wu’s, it was exactly the opposite. Working with people who understood the field generally meant that as long as their work was done properly, funding and such would be easier to secure. There also wouldn’t be a situation where amateurs tried to direct professionals, which could save a lot of time and energy.
Liu Mingzhe was clearly thinking the same thing. After confirming that Luo Ming was someone who knew the field, he also joined the discussion about the project.
The three of them talked for more than two hours and basically settled the cooperation.
What remained was to hire lawyers and sign the contract.
Fudan University had its own law department, so there was certainly no shortage of talent in that area. As for Luo Ming, he would need to hire his own lawyer.
