Yu Xiaoduo made a cool drift and stopped right in front of everyone. She opened the car door and stretched out her long legs. Her smooth, jade-like calves shone even brighter under the car’s headlights.
Seeing herself like this, Gu Wan’er was totally captivated by her own looks. She thought, I’m just way too gorgeous. No wonder those gross guys stick to me like flies.
Yu Xiaoduo smiled at the crowd and said, “I’m new around here. I hope you’ll all take good care of me from now on.”
“Miss Gu is amazing. I admit defeat.”
“What are you talking about? Miss Gu, if you ever run into any trouble, just come to me. We’ll help as much as we can.”
“Miss Gu, you’re the second woman I, Liang, have ever truly respected.”
Hearing what everyone said, Yu Xiaoduo knew the mission was accomplished. It was like killing three birds with one stone. She really was a genius.
But then again, that was a close call just now. Luckily, she had figured out Pan Wei’s personality, so it was nerve-wracking but ultimately safe.
After boasting with the crowd for a bit, Yu Xiaoduo and Gu Wan’er got back into the car. “So, Boss Gu, how about that? You’ve made a name for yourself now. I heard them say you’re on par with that Ye Shishi.”
“Do you have any idea how dangerous that was just now? What if Pan Wei hadn’t turned the steering wheel?!”
Yu Xiaoduo was taken aback, but she felt a little warmth in her heart. “Boss Gu, you were worried about me.”
“I was worried about my body.”
Yu Xiaoduo: “…”
She really had been too rash.
Then Gu Wan’er stressed, “Don’t do something that dangerous ever again. I still want to get our bodies swapped back.”
“Got it. Women are so fussy. Let’s drive, I’m hungry.”
Gu Wan’er shot Yu Xiaoduo a dirty look but could only play chauffeur for him.
On the road, a McLaren pulled up alongside them. Lu Zhengzhi rolled down his window and shouted, “Miss Gu, want to go grab some skewers together?”
“Sure! You guys follow us,” Yu Xiaoduo said with a smile.
For skewers, you have to go to the Old Place BBQ joint. Yu Xiaoduo had been eating there since she was in school. The prices hadn’t gone up much over the years, and the owner’s wife was really friendly.
Meanwhile, in a rural county town on the outskirts of Longhai City, there was an exceptionally tasteful, traditional Chinese courtyard estate. In front of the gate stood two huge stone lions. The big, vermillion door was shut tight, but two men stood guard on either side. Above the center of the gate hung a black plaque with two characters carved into it:
“Bai Family.”
Inside the dark courtyard, one room was lit up. The furnishings were very simple—no priceless porcelain, no famous paintings. There were plenty of bamboo strips, though, used for weaving things like bamboo baskets.
Two people sat on either side of a small table. One was Bai Ji. Across from her sat an elderly man in his eighties with silvery-white hair and deep wrinkles on his face. But his gaze was still sharp, even if he kept it well-hidden right now.
He was Bai Ji’s grandfather, Bai Jianguo.
“Grandfather, how have you been feeling lately?” Bai Ji asked with concern in her eyes. Her grandfather was her only family left in this world, and her everything. She had no memories of her parents at all; they passed away unexpectedly when she was very young.
Bai Jianguo coughed heavily twice. Bai Ji quickly came to his side, rubbed his back, and handed him some warm water.
“Just let me die already.”
Hearing her grandfather say that, Bai Ji felt helpless. “Grandfather.”
“Don’t call me grandfather! How can I face your parents? You’re already over thirty! Are you trying to make sure the Bai family line ends with me?” Bai Jianguo slammed the table and started scolding her. He was the only person in the world who could scold Bai Ji like this. If anyone else tried, they’d be knocked into who knows where.
Bai Ji sighed softly. “Grandfather, it’s not that easy to find the right person.”
“Heh. I’ve been hearing that exact sentence from you for ten years. You’re just hoping I’ll die soon so no one bothers you anymore.” With that, Bai Jianguo looked away, acting like a grumpy old child.
Bai Ji didn’t know what else to do, so she acted like a girl and tried to sweet-talk him a bit. If this image of her ever got out, a lot of people wouldn’t be able to handle it.
“Don’t try that act with me. I’m not falling for it anymore. Don’t come see me again until you have a boyfriend. Otherwise, just come look at my dead body.”
“Okay, okay, fine. Next time I’ll bring you a live-in grandson-in-law, alright?” Bai Ji could only try to appease him. Even though she’d said this countless times before, it at least helped calm her grandfather down a little.
Hearing that, Bai Jianguo let out a cold snort.
“Grandfather, the direct line of the Gu family has come to Longhai City.”
Bai Jianguo’s white eyebrows shot up, and a sharp, fierce light flashed in his aged eyes. “What did they come for?”
“I’ve made some contact. I haven’t found anything out of the ordinary yet. Just seems like a girl trying to prove herself.”
Bai Jianguo propped his hands on the table and slowly stood up. “Handle things like this yourself from now on. I don’t want to know. I just want to see you settled down so I can have a clear conscience before your parents. It’s late. Go home.”
Watching her grandfather turn his back, Bai Ji knew he didn’t want to talk to her anymore. “Grandfather, please rest well. I’ll come visit you again next time.”
Bai Ji respectfully left the room and gently closed the door behind her.
Inside, Bai Jianguo glanced back. His stern gaze softened a bit. This can’t go on. I might have to take matters into my own hands after all.
As Bai Ji walked out the main gate, the scar-faced man standing nearby immediately approached and said quietly, “Boss Bai, we just got word. That Miss Gu made a move today.”
“What did she do?” Bai Ji asked casually.
The scar-faced man recounted everything that had happened that evening. Bai Ji was quite surprised. She actually outdid Pan Wei. Interesting girl. She’s even more impressive than Ye Shishi back in the day. I really underestimated her.
At the same time, on a beach on the other side of the world, a tantalizing body lay on the sand. Her skin was a healthy tan, she had short, sharp hair, and her delicate features were flawless. This was a woman of wild, untamed beauty, and also someone not to be messed with.
She was the one everyone called Ye Shishi.
Ring, ring, ring. The phone on a nearby table was buzzing. Ye Shishi frowned slightly but didn’t pick it up.
But after it stopped, it started ringing again. Ye Shishi could only get up impatiently and brush the sand off her body.
If Yu Xiaoduo saw her, she’d definitely gasp—Wow, those legs are long. Even longer than Boss Gu’s.
Gu Wan’er was 1.7 meters tall, which is pretty tall for a girl. But Ye Shishi was 1.75 meters, just a little shorter than Yu Xiaoduo. If she wore super high heels, she’d be the same height as her.
“Who is it?!” Ye Shishi said impatiently.
“Ye Jie! Someone’s here to crash the party. I just sent you a video, check it out.” The voice on the phone was excited and urging her.
Ye Shishi was confused for a second, then opened the video that had been sent. It was the nerve-wracking moment from earlier when the two cars were about to crash head-on.
“Ye Jie, it’s the eldest daughter of the Gu family from Jingzhou. Pan Wei was completely crushed by her.”
“Pan Wei is trash. Afraid of a woman. He’s a total disgrace to Longhai. Truly, when the cat’s away, the mice will play. Wait till I get back. I’ll go meet this eldest Miss Gu myself.” With that, Ye Shishi hung up the phone. Finally, a worthy opponent.
