Ye Ziming stared at Ye Feng’s murderous glare and was instantly dumbfounded.
In all his years of growing up, he had never seen his father this furious.
“Ziming, listen to Dad. Lin Hai is no ordinary person. Whether Mom can be saved depends entirely on him.” Ye Ziyu then explained to Ye Ziming the whole story of their father’s hospital visit and what had led up to it.
“What!” Ye Ziming was stunned. Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined Lin Hai’s medical skills could be this miraculous.
“I—I’ll go apologize first thing tomorrow morning.” He finally realized just how formidable a person he had offended.
Early the next morning, Lin Hai went to school.
Since he had no classes in the morning, he parked the car and headed to the practice room to find Liu Xinyue.
“Well, well, if it isn’t the great Singing King. What, here to coach Xinyue again? Let me tell you, don’t bother wasting your effort. With me, Zhen Shuang, around, no one’s taking that championship. Instead of throwing away your time on Liu Xinyue, you’d be better off saving your energy to cheer me on instead. What do you say, Singing King?” Just as he reached the door of the practice room, he ran into Zhen Shuang, who tossed him a flirty glance as she spoke.
“Cheer you on? And how exactly am I supposed to do that?” Lin Hai asked with an amused smirk.
Zhen Shuang paused for a second, then caught the double meaning in his words.
“Oh, you naughty thing! However you want to cheer me on, of course, hehehe…” She let out a lewd giggle.
Lin Hai shook his head with contempt.
“Lin Hai, don’t be so ungrateful!” Humiliated once again by Lin Hai, Zhen Shuang’s face flushed bright red.
“Tch, if you don’t want to be humiliated, stay away from me. I’ve got to go practice with my Xinyue.”
“Hmph, Lin Hai, let me tell you the truth. It doesn’t matter how much you practice—the championship was decided long ago. Young Master Ye already promised me—”
Before Zhen Shuang could finish, a limited-edition Porsche 911 suddenly pulled up.
“Young Master Ye!” Zhen Shuang’s eyes lit up. She shot Lin Hai a contemptuous pout and quickly hurried over.
Ye Ziming scrambled out of the car, looking flustered.
“Young Master Ye, are you here for me?” Zhen Shuang pressed her body right up against him.
“Get off!” Ye Ziming shoved her aside roughly.
“Young Master Ye, you—” Zhen Shuang stopped mid-sentence, frozen in shock.
She saw Ye Ziming scurry over to Lin Hai like an eager puppy, wearing a fawning smile.
“Brother Lin, I—”
“Stop right there.” Lin Hai cut him off immediately. “I’m just a broke nobody living in a shared dorm. I don’t deserve that kind of address from you.”
“Brother Lin, come on, that was all just a joke before, wasn’t it?” Ye Ziming laughed awkwardly.
“A joke? Do I know you that well?” Lin Hai gave Ye Ziming a once-over. “Don’t try to get chummy with me for no reason.”
“Uh…” Ye Ziming was at a loss for words, his anger simmering inside.
Damn it. If it weren’t for the fact that your medical skills can save my mom, and my dad gave me strict orders, why the hell would I bother trying to get close to you?
But since he needed Lin Hai’s help, Ye Ziming had no choice but to swallow his rage.
“Brother Lin, I was wrong before. I messed up. Please forgive me.” Ye Ziming bowed repeatedly.
“This…” Zhen Shuang stood to the side, utterly dumbfounded. Was this still the same arrogant, overbearing Young Master Ye Ziming?
Why was he acting like a scared little grandson in front of Lin Hai?
“So you admit you were wrong?” Lin Hai crossed his arms, tilted his chin up, and struck a smug pose.
Pfft!
Ye Ziming nearly choked on his anger at that posture.
Damn, you really know how to put on airs.
“Yeah, Brother Lin, I know I was wrong.” Ye Ziming forced a smile.
“Oh? Then tell me—what exactly were you wrong about?”
I was wrong about your sister! Ye Ziming was seething inside.
“I was wrong for pulling out that golden needle?” He said with some frustration.
“And?” Lin Hai raised an eyebrow.
“And… and I was wrong for offending you, Brother Lin.”
“Mm, now that last part is the key point.” Lin Hai nodded.
Pfft!
Ye Ziming nearly hit the floor.
This Lin Hai had way too high an opinion of himself. If it weren’t for saving my mom, offending you would mean nothing!
“Brother Lin, about my mom’s condition—”
“Do you really know you were wrong?” Lin Hai didn’t answer the question but asked instead.
“Y-yes, I really do know I was wrong.” Ye Ziming quickly nodded repeatedly.
“Then you’ll change your ways from now on, got it?”
“Change, I’ll definitely change.”
“Good! Knowing your mistake and fixing it makes you a good kid. There, there.” Lin Hai patted Ye Ziming on the head like he was a little child.
Pfft!
Ye Ziming’s lungs nearly burst with rage.
I’ll curse your ancestors! You’re treating me like a three-year-old!
“Then, Brother Lin, when would be a good time for you to—”
Before Ye Ziming could finish, Lin Hai turned around and walked straight into the practice room.
“Hey—” Ye Ziming was fuming.
No choice—he needed Lin Hai’s help. So, swallowing his pride, he followed along, seething inside.
“Young Master Ye, wait for me!” Seeing this, Zhen Shuang quickly trailed after him.
“Xinyue, how’s practice going today?” Lin Hai walked straight up to Liu Xinyue.
“Pretty good. I just got here a little while ago.”
“Brother Lin, Brother Lin…” Ye Ziming was furious but kept a smile plastered on his face.
“Oh? Young Master Ye, why are you still following me? Go do whatever you need to do, alright?”
Ye Ziming was about to lose his mind. Who the hell wants to follow you around? I’m only here because I need you to treat my mom!
“Brother Lin, about my mom’s illness…”
“Oh, that. Slipped my mind, haha. Alright, I’ll go with you right now.” Lin Hai pretended to have just remembered.
Slipped your mind, my foot! You were doing that on purpose!
“Great, great. Please, Brother Lin, this way.”
Lin Hai took a couple of steps, then stopped again.
“Oh, by the way, Young Master Ye, this singing competition—it’s sponsored by your family, right?”
“Yeah, that’s right. The Ye Group is the exclusive title sponsor. I’m actually in charge of the competition.” Ye Ziming had no idea what Lin Hai was getting at but nodded anyway.
“Oh, so you’re in charge.” Lin Hai nodded. “But you’re pretty shady, you know? Just now, Zhen Shuang said the championship was already decided behind the scenes.”
As soon as Lin Hai said that, it was like a bombshell had dropped. The students in the practice room all crowded around.
“Young Master Ye, is it really predetermined?”
“Oh my god, no way!”
“Seriously? Then what the hell are we even practicing for every day?”
A lot of these students were preparing for the competition, and Lin Hai’s words stirred up a wave of anger.
“No, that’s not true at all! Everyone, don’t listen to rumors!” Ye Ziming quickly waved his hands and shot Zhen Shuang a fierce glare.
“Damn that slut! She’s got big tits and an empty head—how could she just blurt that out!”
“Really not fixed?” Lin Hai looked skeptical.
“Absolutely not! I swear on my honor as Ye Ziming! Everyone, please believe me!”
Pfft!
“You’re swearing on your honor?” Lin Hai looked at him with a strange expression.
“Yeah, isn’t that enough?” Ye Ziming blinked in confusion.
Lin Hai found it hilarious.
“Young Master Ye, a person should know their own limits. Don’t you realize that your honor, as you call it, has long since run out of credit?”
