Gu Yun’er was genuinely curious about how this guy would talk to her. Would he be like all the other men? Her sister’s introduction had to be someone special, right?
Sure enough, a reply came through quickly.
“You are?”
Seeing the message, Gu Yun’er broke into a satisfied smile. “I’m a friend of President Gu.”
Yu Xiaoduo, lying in bed, couldn’t help but chuckle. Little Yun’er was just too innocent—it almost made him feel a bit guilty.
“I thought President Gu was joking. I can’t believe this is real. Hello, hello.” Yu Xiaoduo played dumb, acting like he had no clue what was going on.
Gu Yun’er let out a soft laugh. She must have scared him—after all, her boss was playing matchmaker, so he was probably feeling pretty nervous right about now.
Suddenly, she caught the smell of something burning. She let out a small yelp—the food in the pan was ruined! She quickly set her phone down and rushed to save it, but the meat was already charred black…
“I was talking to you, and my food burned. I have to start over. Let’s chat later.”
Putting down the phone, Yu Xiaoduo rolled his shoulders and winced at the soreness. This was going to hurt for at least ten days to half a month. He’d dodged that time of the month, but what was meant to come always came anyway. Being a woman was such a hassle.
Twenty minutes later, Gu Yun’er walked into the bedroom carrying a tray of food. “Sis, feeling a little better?”
“A little bit.”
“Good. Green pepper stir-fry with pork—your favorite.”
So Gu Wan’er liked green pepper stir-fry, huh? Too bad all he could make was ham sausage stir-fry—that stuff was an experience, and not in a good way.
Just from the smell, Yu Xiaoduo could tell Gu Yun’er was a better cook than her sister. But when he tried to lift his arm, the pain shot through him.
“Let me feed you.” Gu Yun’er had already prepared a spoon and sat beside him, carefully bringing the food to his mouth.
“Ah… open wide, Sis.”
Yu Xiaoduo gave a helpless smile. “You’re treating me like I’m three years old.”
“Come on, this is the first time I’ve ever seen you vulnerable, Sis. I have to take this chance. Now open up.”
Yu Xiaoduo could only sigh inwardly. Here he was, a grown man, being spoon-fed by a girl. But then again, having a woman take care of him actually felt pretty nice. And Yun’er was so attentive—definitely wife material in the making. No doubt about it.
“I saw a lot of people talking about you in the group chat earlier,” Gu Yun’er said softly, a hint of confusion in her voice.
“Group? What group?”
“The one Xiao Yu set up. It’s for all those rich young heirs in Jingzhou.”
Xiao Yu?
That name rang a bell, but he couldn’t quite place it. Still, from the way Yun’er said it, this guy must be a big shot in Jingzhou.
“Oh, that.”
“Sis, since when did you learn to ride a motorcycle? I had no idea.” Gu Yun’er gently blew on the rice to cool it down.
Yu Xiaoduo said casually, “Yun’er, I picked up those skills on the down low. I was saving them for my cousins, but then Ye Shishi forced me to go all out.”
“Oh, I see. But you never told me. Don’t you trust Yun’er?”
“…”
“Silly Yun’er, of course I trust you. I just didn’t want you getting dragged into this mess—didn’t want to dirty that pretty little head of yours.” Yu Xiaoduo reached out and tapped her forehead.
Gu Yun’er pouted, unconvinced. “Sis, I’m not as fragile as you think. I can help share the burden too. Stop trying to carry everything on your own.”
“Alright, alright. Yun’er’s all grown up now.” Yu Xiaoduo ran his hand through her silky black hair, thinking to himself that Gu Wan’er was also a woman dealt a tough hand in life. But at least she was a good sister.
“Sis, teach me how to punch! That move in the video you watched looked so cool.”
“Cool, sure. But look at what happened to me. You still want to learn?” If he’d known it would end like this, he would’ve used a different method. After all, there were a hundred ways to beat Ye Shishi—but this one did look awesome.
Gu Yun’er’s eyes widened. “No way.”
“Would I lie to you? Once I’m better, I’ll teach you some self-defense moves.”
“Great! And I want to learn gambling tricks too.”
“Learn your head! That’s called picking up bad habits.” He gave her forehead another tap, and Gu Yun’er’s pout deepened until her lips could practically hang a bottle of oil.
Gu Yun’er muttered, “Sis, I saw everyone saying you found a boyfriend. Xiao Yu probably won’t be happy about that, right?”
Your sister needs his permission to date? Who does he think he is?
Yu Xiaoduo was dying to ask for details but decided against it. He’d just ask Gu Wan’er herself later. It was probably one of those fiancé situations again.
Then again, maybe not quite at that stage yet.
“Who cares what he thinks.”
“Sis, now that everyone knows he’s your boyfriend, and you introduced him to me… doesn’t that mean we’re sharing a boyfriend?”
Yu Xiaoduo: “…”
He was completely speechless. Because, honestly? She had a point.
“He and I are faking it. Look at him—handsome, talented, can fight, can make money. A guy that great shouldn’t go to waste on an outsider.”
“But he’s not even talking to me. What am I supposed to do?” Gu Yun’er held up her phone to show him.
Yu Xiaoduo was dumbfounded. Weren’t you the one who said you were done chatting? And now you’re blaming me for not replying? Women. He’d never understand them.
So he asked, “Didn’t you say you were stopping?”
“Just because I said that doesn’t mean he has to listen! Guys should take the initiative!”
Yu Xiaoduo: “…”
“Yun’er, let me break it down for you. He’s my subordinate, right?”
“Mm-hmm.” Gu Yun’er nodded seriously, looking adorable.
“As his boss, when I set him up with someone, don’t you think he’d assume the girl’s status is at least close to mine?”
“Mm-hmm.”
“He’s just an ordinary guy. When he’s around us, he probably feels a little intimidated. So sometimes, taking the initiative yourself isn’t a bad thing.” Yu Xiaoduo almost cracked up at his own words. He was being way too wicked. He needed to stop.
Gu Yun’er thought it over seriously. “That makes a lot of sense, Sis. I guess I was overthinking it.”
“It’s all good.”
“I’ll send him a message then.”
Yu Xiaoduo: “…”
Before he could stop her, his phone buzzed. He’d forgotten to put Yun’er’s contact on silent.
“Sis, your WeChat notification went off.”
“Oh, right. Probably work stuff.” Yu Xiaoduo breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Good thing she hadn’t noticed.
Watching the message Yun’er sent, he lay right there and replied. Gu Yun’er was so focused on her own phone that she didn’t notice a thing.
“Sis, I’ll leave you to your work. I’m going to wash the dishes and take a nap.”
“Mm, go ahead.”
Watching her leave, Yu Xiaoduo snickered. The little girl was getting shy.
Right in the middle of their conversation, Yu Xiaoduo suddenly asked, “Do you usually take afternoon naps?”
Gu Yun’er, sprawled on the bed patting her long, slender legs, replied, “Nope. Are you going to take one?”
Yu Xiaoduo burst out laughing, and Gu Yun’er could almost hear her sister’s laughter through the wall.
But chatting with Yun’er was so easy. She was nothing like her sister, with that fake cold-and-distant act.
