Jiang Fei’s Decision
Jiang Fei had expected Xia Xiaozhi to throw a fit when he told her he would no longer be her tutor. He had braced himself for a battle of wills, determined to stand his ground no matter what. There was no way he was going back to that job.
To his surprise, Xia Xiaozhi seemed to have anticipated this. Instead of putting on a pitiful act or throwing a tantrum, she simply nodded in agreement.
Perhaps sensing Jiang Fei’s confusion, Xia Xiaozhi, who had been feeling a bit down, temporarily set aside her worries and grinned. “Actually, you don’t need to bring it up. My mom already told me. She knows you’re super busy now and won’t have time to tutor me anymore. So, she plans to stop hiring you after this semester!”
Jiang Fei was taken aback. “Your mom… is really understanding!”
Xia Xiaozhi, her mushroom-cut bangs framing her now slightly alluring eyes, shot Jiang Fei a look. “Uncle Jiang, are you being sarcastic?”
If her mom was considered understanding, then there was no one in the world who wasn’t!
Jiang Fei coughed awkwardly. “Well, your mom can be a bit… forceful at times. But honestly, she’s not entirely unreasonable. So, Xiaozhi, you should listen to her more.”
Xia Xiaozhi waved her hand dismissively. “Come on, Uncle Jiang. My mom’s not here. Why are you still trying to flatter her? Do you think I don’t know her after being her daughter for over a decade?”
Jiang Fei was speechless.
This girl really had no filter. He had gone out of his way to compliment her mom, and she not only didn’t appreciate it but outright called him out on it.
Was he wrong to say that?
But in Jiang Fei’s opinion, his praise wasn’t entirely off the mark. Xia Xiaozhi’s mom was indeed overly assertive and had a way with words—she could turn black into white. She also had a knack for taking advantage of small opportunities. But at her core, she wasn’t a bad person.
At the very least, she was far better than the kind of malicious women who had caused trouble at Su Nan and Jiang Fei’s clinic.
For example, when most people saw beggars on the street, whether they were genuine or not, they’d instinctively assume they were scammers. Even those who considered themselves kind-hearted would often walk past without giving a second thought. But Jiang Fei had once seen Xia Xiaozhi’s mom, on her way home from grocery shopping, drop some change into an old beggar’s bowl.
The amount wasn’t much—probably less than ten yuan—but it spoke volumes about her character.
It was because of that incident that Jiang Fei had agreed to become Xia Xiaozhi’s tutor when her mom approached him. If she had been the kind of unreasonable, domineering woman he initially imagined, no amount of sweet talk would have convinced him.
The three teenage girls, having no classes in the afternoon, decided to stay in Jiang Fei’s office, treating it like a lounge as they waited for him to finish work. They were clearly planning to follow him home for dinner, just like they had done several times before.
Jiang Fei ignored them and sat back in his chair, pulling up his character status screen in his mind.
After leveling up, he still had two unallocated attribute points. Adding these to his basic stats would significantly enhance his physical abilities. However, he was stuck on which attributes to upgrade.
“If I had drawn a martial arts manual focused on brute strength, like a fierce boxing or palm technique, I could’ve allocated both points to strength. But Tai Chi is different—it emphasizes softness overcoming hardness. Strength isn’t as important here, so adding points there would be redundant,” Jiang Fei mused, frowning.
As for agility, Jiang Fei had already added a point to it last time. Since he hadn’t even upgraded his Threefold Cloud Steps yet, adding more points to agility now would be overkill.
That left only two options: constitution and spirit.
“Constitution is incredibly useful. It affects my stamina and defense. The higher my stamina, the longer I can last in a fight. Since I’ve started practicing Tai Chi, boosting my constitution would slightly enhance the power of this technique… Plus, increasing constitution has other benefits, like boosting a man’s confidence and vigor,” Jiang Fei thought seriously.
With that in mind, Jiang Fei decided to allocate one point to constitution. As for the remaining point, after some deliberation, he decided to add it to spirit.
His current spirit level was sufficient for treating ordinary patients, but it drained him when dealing with more serious cases, like General Ye Zhennan’s condition. Since he’d need to increase his spirit eventually anyway, he might as well do it now.
This way, until his medical skills reached Level 8, he wouldn’t have to worry about running out of energy while treating patients.
“Let’s do it! Constitution and spirit it is!” Jiang Fei made his decision and promptly allocated the two points.
With that, Jiang Fei’s character stats underwent a significant change, and they wouldn’t see major adjustments until he reached Level 3.

…
Jiang Fei looked at his updated stats with satisfaction and nodded.
If it weren’t for the three girls in his office, he might have burst out laughing in delight.
He could now legitimately call himself a minor superhuman. His physical stats were all top-tier for a human. Even his strength, which was relatively his weakest attribute, was now 1.6 times that of an average adult, putting him firmly in the “strongman” category.
Jiang Fei suddenly found himself craving a confrontation with some troublemaker, just so he could test his new superhuman body and show off a little.
He was eager to see how powerful the incomplete Tai Chi would be, even without internal energy, when backed by his enhanced physique.
“I really envy those protagonists in novels. They not only have protagonis plot armor but also automatic hate magnet. No matter who they meet, someone always tries to step on them, only to end up giving them free experience points and a chance to show off… Why doesn’t anyone come and let me have some fun?” Jiang Fei thought mischievously.
