“The colleagues from the Supernatural Affairs Bureau arrived faster than I expected.”
Hearing the siren of the Supernatural Affairs Bureau, Yan Qi instinctively said this to herself.
Not long after she said this, the bureau’s police car appeared before them.
Then, after asking them about the situation, the bureau members quickly lifted the unconscious Li Yabo off the ground and put him into their car. After telling Yan Qi and Hu Mengqing to be careful when they went home that night, they left.
Watching her colleagues drive away, Yan Qi suddenly lost track of time. She turned her head and asked Hu Mengqing,
“Class president, what time is it now?”
“What time is it? Let me see. It’s just past 9:30.”
After checking her phone to confirm the time, Hu Mengqing answered Yan Qi.
“Oh, it’s only 9:30? Then it looks like we can still hang out in the park for a while. Class president, is there anywhere in the park you’d like to go see right now?”
Realizing it was still only 9:30 and feeling she still had plenty of time before needing to go home, Yan Qi asked Hu Mengqing with interest.
“Is there anywhere I want to go see right now? Xiao Qi, aren’t you in a hurry to get home?”
Surprised by Yan Qi’s question, Hu Mengqing asked her back.
“Why would I be in a hurry to get home? There’s nothing for me to do there anyway. I’m happy to hang out with you here in the park. Class president, please answer the question I asked you earlier.”
In response to Hu Mengqing’s question, Yan Qi tilted her head and answered without hesitation, while also urging her to quickly reply to her earlier question.
Hearing this and understanding why Yan Qi wasn’t in a rush to go home, Hu Mengqing quickly lowered her head to think about which place in the park she wanted to visit right then.
Just then, the image of a slide suddenly popped into Hu Mengqing’s mind. She turned to Yan Qi and said,
“If it’s okay, Xiao Qi, would you be willing to come with me to check out the slide?”
“The slide? Sure, I’d love to.”
Hearing Hu Mengqing ask if she wanted to go to the slide together, Yan Qi, remembering exactly where it was, agreed without much thought.
A happy smile quickly appeared on Hu Mengqing’s face after getting Yan Qi’s answer.
Then, the two of them walked toward the slide’s location—the small playground in the park designed for kids.
“I haven’t been here in ages, not since I started high school.”
As they approached the small playground, Hu Mengqing, who hadn’t visited in years, looked at the slide not far away and the familiar facilities around it. A nostalgic expression appeared on her face, and she murmured to herself.
“Haven’t been here in years? Then, class president, do you want to go play on the slide like you used to?”
Hearing what Hu Mengqing said, Yan Qi blinked and suddenly thought of something fun. She made the suggestion.
Hearing that, Hu Mengqing quickly turned her head, her face bright red, and said to Yan Qi,
“How could I be so shameless?”
“What’s there to be embarrassed about? It’s nighttime, and there aren’t many people in the park anyway. Just go play on the slide, class president. No one will notice.”
Seeing Hu Mengqing’s flushed face, Yan Qi knew she was just shy, so she encouraged her.
Despite Yan Qi’s encouragement, Hu Mengqing still couldn’t bring herself to do it. After thinking for a moment, she said to Yan Qi,
“It’s not that I won’t play on the slide, but Xiao Qi, you have to come up with me.”
“Ah, but what if I don’t want to go up and play on the slide with you, class president?”
“Then I won’t play on the slide either.”
Hu Mengqing said this with certainty.
Looking at the expression on Hu Mengqing’s face, Yan Qi knew she meant it. After a brief thought, she decided there was no harm in going up the slide with her class president. So, putting on a reluctant face, she said to Hu Mengqing,
“Well, since you put it that way, class president, I can’t really say no. Let’s go. Let’s head up the slide together.”
Without giving Hu Mengqing time to respond, Yan Qi reached out, grabbed her hand, and the two of them walked one after the other to the slide and climbed to the top.
“Class president, the view from up here is actually pretty nice, isn’t it?”
Standing at the top of the slide and looking out at the empty little playground, Yan Qi, who had never been up there before, couldn’t help but compliment the view to Hu Mengqing beside her.
“What’s so great about this view? It doesn’t look much different from when I saw it a few years ago.”
Hu Mengqing, already very familiar with the scenery, said dismissively.
“That’s definitely because you’ve seen it too many times, class president, so you don’t realize how nice it is.”
After saying this to Hu Mengqing, Yan Qi paused for a moment, then turned away from the view and said to her,
“Anyway, enough about all that useless stuff. Let’s go play on the slide. Class president, do you want to go first, or should I?”
Not wanting to argue further about the view from the slide, Yan Qi pointed to the slide’s entrance nearby and asked Hu Mengqing.
Hearing this, Hu Mengqing, though fully aware that there really weren’t many people in the park at that hour, still felt deep down that playing on a slide was very unsuitable for her. She was having a hard time letting go.
But since Yan Qi had dragged her all the way there, it wouldn’t be right not to do anything, especially after how much Yan Qi had helped her that evening.
So, after hesitating for a moment, Hu Mengqing looked up and said to Yan Qi, a bit shyly,
“Then you go first, Xiao Qi. I’ll come down after you.”
“Okay, I’ll head down then. See you in a bit.”
Hearing Hu Mengqing’s answer, Yan Qi said this to her, then gave a little jump, entered the slide through the entrance, and slid down.
After a winding and twisting ride, she landed energetically at the exit, back on solid ground.
