Lin Weiwei and her group didn’t take the ramblings of a “crazy person” seriously.
Especially the others in the group—they hadn’t believed the rumors about the “campus belle” circulating online, but now they were starting to have second thoughts.
Chatting and laughing, they made their way up the mountain.
But after walking for what felt like forever, they still hadn’t reached their destination. Finally, someone realized they were going in circles. One of the girls rubbed her chilled arms and turned to the professor, an inexplicable fear creeping in.
“Professor… maybe we should head back down?”
The others, equally unnerved, quickly agreed.
Just then, Lin Weiwei spotted a tall figure in the distance and went over to ask for directions.
She called out to the person, who slowly turned around—smiling warmly at her.
But as Lin Weiwei spoke, her voice gradually faded, a cold dread crawling up her spine.
The person’s head had turned a full 180 degrees.
“Ah—!” she screamed in horror.
By then, the professor and the others had also noticed something was wrong. The tall figure began floating toward them.
Yes, floating.
A pungent, rotting stench emanated from its body.
Aside from the professor, the rest were university students—staunch materialists who had never encountered anything like this. One of them pinched herself so hard she burst into tears, sobbing, “I was wrong! I should’ve listened to the campus belle! This world really is insane!”
The creature didn’t even need to turn—its front and back were indistinguishable. A pair of pale hands shot out, clamping around Lin Weiwei’s neck.
“Seven fresh souls… perfect for my offering…”
“Excuse me—are you this ugly thing’s husband?”
The creature looked up to see a young woman grinning at it, holding up a mirror larger than her own head.
Not far away, Lin Weiwei had already been pulled to safety by Ye Shaohua. The others supported her, trembling.
“W-Weiwei… your friend really is a master!”
Lin Weiwei’s entire worldview was crumbling.
How can a human’s neck turn 180 degrees?! And how is that mirror just floating in midair?!
She had always thought Ye Shaohua was just a lunatic. But now, witnessing this, she almost dropped to her knees.
“What the hell is this?! This defies all logic!”
…
Meanwhile, Ye Shaohua’s eldest brother and the others had successfully relocated the ancestral grave and were descending the mountain.
“Luck was on our side today,” Ye Eldest Brother sighed in relief. “The Ghost King that was supposed to be sacrificed at the foot of South Mountain didn’t show up. Otherwise, relocating the grave would’ve been much harder.”
The other masters nodded in agreement.
When they returned to the villa, only the fourth young miss was there.
Frowning, Ye Eldest Brother asked, “Where’s Third Sister?”
Fourth Sister, clinging to Uncle Ye’s arm, rolled her eyes. “Her? She said she was bored and went out this afternoon. She should be back by now.”
“Went out?! Didn’t I warn her not to leave?!” Ye Eldest Brother’s expression darkened.
The ancestral grave had just been moved, and Master Fu hadn’t yet set up the new feng shui formation to suppress the Ghost King. This was no time to wander around!
That Ye Shaohua… always causing trouble!
“It’s fine,” Second Sister said coolly. “Where would a girl even go at this hour? Brother, let’s report to the clan leader first.”
That made sense. After a moment’s thought, Ye Eldest Brother instructed Uncle Ye to send people to search nearby.
As they walked, Second Sister asked, “Brother, is Master Fu really as incredible as they say?”
Though not blood-related, the two had grown up as close as real siblings—common in the Ye family, where heirs were scarce.
“Fu Jinyun could break feng shui formations at seven, pinpoint dragon veins at nine, and glimpse heavenly secrets at ten,” Ye Eldest Brother said with a sigh. “A true prodigy… but what a pity he was born into the Fu family.”
In the world of metaphysics, talent came at a price. The greater the gift, the heavier the karmic burden.
The Fu family had produced many renowned masters, but their lineage was the thinnest. Even the Ye family couldn’t compare to them in feng shui mastery.
“Is it true he’s… disfigured?” Second Sister asked curiously.
Ye Eldest Brother shook his head. “He always wears a mask. I’ve never seen his face.”
Seeing the admiration in her eyes, he grew serious. “Second Sister, Fu Jinyun is not a good match. Every Fu family member who could glimpse heavenly secrets died before twenty-two. His twenty-second birthday is this December. Fu Weifeng may not be as gifted, but he’s the Fu family’s heir.”
Everyone knew Fu Jinyun wouldn’t live past the year. Fu Weifeng, though less talented, was the one who would inherit the Fu family’s legacy.
And Second Sister was betrothed to him.
The other young ladies in the metaphysical world envied her. Even Fourth Sister gazed at her with barely concealed jealousy.
“But what about Fu Jinyun’s arranged marriage?” Second Sister asked quietly once they were alone.
Fu Jinyun had been promised to a Ye family daughter before he was even born. In their world, such vows were tied to karmic destiny.
No one had expected his talent to be so monstrous. Now, with his impending death, no one in the Ye family wanted to marry him.
“That’s why the clan leader brought Third Sister back,” Ye Eldest Brother said grimly. “She grew up in hardship, knows nothing of metaphysics, and won’t suffer much karmic backlash. The Fu family will ensure she lives comfortably, and she can remarry later. Plus, as the daughter of the metaphysical world’s greatest genius, her status is acceptable.”
Second Sister was surprised but didn’t object.
Though she admired Fu Jinyun, she’d never marry a dying man.
But it never crossed her mind that Ye Shaohua might refuse.
Why would she? This is a blessing for her.
