The Almighty Martial Arts System - Chapter 166
Jiang Fei had no idea how long he’d been unconscious. All he knew was that he’d been woken up by an urgent need to pee.
The moment he opened his eyes, he heard a chorus of cheerful, girlish voices beside him:
“Uncle, you’re finally awake!”
“Uncle, how do you feel? Does your wound still hurt?”
Xia Xiaozhi and Xu Jing leaned in, their fresh, youthful faces full of concern. The two usually mischievous and rebellious girls seemed to have matured overnight, as if they’d suddenly learned how to care for someone.
“I’m fine. Feeling much better,” Jiang Fei replied, warmth spreading through his chest.
His left arm, where he’d been shot, didn’t hurt much—just felt numb and stiff under the bandages.
“How did you two get here?” he asked.
“Last night, we just got back home after buying groceries, waiting for you to cook us something delicious,” Xia Xiaozhi explained, her voice laced with worry. “But then Sister Yuanyuan got a call saying you’d been attacked by robbers and shot. She rushed out immediately to help you. This morning, she told us which hospital you were at, so we came straight here.”
Xu Jing, her round, doll-like face etched with concern, nodded vigorously. “Yeah, Uncle. When we heard you’d been shot, I couldn’t sleep all night. Look, I even have dark circles now!”
The two girls, though completely different in style, both radiated youthful charm. Their presence alone seemed to overpower the sterile hospital smell with the fresh, sweet scent of youth.
Just seeing them lifted Jiang Fei’s mood, making his injuries feel less severe.
“You probably had the best sleep out of all of us last night,” Lin Moli chided from the side, though the worry in her eyes was unmistakable. She was upset that Jiang Fei had gotten himself into such trouble, scaring them half to death.
Of all the women present, Lin Moli had been the most frantic when she heard Jiang Fei had been shot. Her eyes had turned red with fury, like a lioness ready to pounce.
Ye Yuanyuan had tried to send her home with Xia Xiaozhi and Xu Jing, insisting she’d handle everything, but Lin Moli refused to back down. She stood her ground so fiercely that even the usually domineering Ye Yuanyuan had no choice but to relent and bring her along to the scene.
So Jiang Fei remembered—Lin Moli had been the one who stayed with him at the hospital all night, taking care of him after the bullet was removed.
Seeing the dark circles under her eyes, Jiang Fei gently patted her hand. “I’m okay now. You didn’t sleep at all last night, did you? You should go home and rest.”
Lin Moli was usually a heavy sleeper. Before Qiao Yiyi moved into the villa, she’d struggled with waking up early. Staying up all night must have been torture for her.
“I can’t sleep,” she murmured, her eyes clouded with something unreadable—worry, confusion, or maybe both.
Assuming she was still concerned about his injury, Jiang Fei smiled reassuringly. “Really, I’m fine. The bullet’s out, and I could even go home to recover now. I’m a doctor—I know my own condition.”
Lin Moli gave him a complicated look, as if she wanted to say something but couldn’t bring herself to.
Just then, the door swung open.
A tall, striking woman strode in, her simple black sleeveless dress accentuating her slender waist and curves. Her dark hair was parted to the side, with a few strands framing her face, the rest elegantly pinned up in a sleek bun.
Her presence was so commanding she could have easily outshone a top celebrity like Qiao Yiyi on stage.
In her hands was a thermal lunchbox—probably breakfast. Despite the three other beauties already in the room, she walked in with the calm confidence of someone entering her own domain.
“Ruoxi…?” Jiang Fei’s eyes widened. His lips twitched, but it took him a full five seconds to find his voice. “When did you get back?”
The woman standing before him, with delicate features that bore an uncanny resemblance to South Korean actress Han Ga-in, was none other than his girlfriend, Bai Ruoxi.
Jiang Fei was genuinely shocked—as shocked as he’d been when the assassin shot at him last night. He never expected Bai Ruoxi to show up like this. Even if she’d dropped everything to fly back after hearing about his injury, she shouldn’t have arrived so soon!
Bai Ruoxi shot him a glare—one filled with a storm of emotions: resentment, anger, aloofness, and an undeniable undercurrent of worry.
She had learned about Jiang Fei’s scandal with Qiao Yiyi while on a flight from Hong Kong to Jincheng, courtesy of two of Qiao Yiyi’s fans. The revelation had infuriated her.
But she hadn’t confronted him immediately. She hadn’t even known he’d appear as a guest at Qiao Yiyi’s concert. Though she was back in the country, work wasn’t done—she still had to visit the Jincheng branch office to tie up loose ends.
So she’d planned to call Jiang Fei after finishing her tasks, surprise him with her sudden appearance, and then demand answers.
But when she finally called him this morning, it was Lin Moli who answered.
Hearing another woman’s voice first thing in the morning sent Bai Ruoxi’s temper flaring. Only sheer willpower kept her from hanging up. After identifying herself, she demanded to know where Jiang Fei was.
And then… she came straight to the hospital.
“I got back yesterday. Just some work-related transfers,” Bai Ruoxi said coolly, masking her emotions. She didn’t mention that she’d dropped everything and flown back specifically for him.
From elementary school class president to university student council elite, Bai Ruoxi had always been fiercely career-driven—and stubborn.
But her stubbornness was different from Lin Moli’s.
Lin Moli pursued what she wanted relentlessly, throwing caution to the wind, unafraid to show vulnerability.
Bai Ruoxi, however, armored herself in pride, never letting anyone see her weak side. Even when she cared deeply, she refused to appear sentimental.
“How did you know I was here?” Jiang Fei asked wryly. If she’d been back since yesterday, why hadn’t she called?
“I called you this morning. Miss Lin told me you were injured,” Bai Ruoxi replied, her gaze briefly clashing with Lin Moli’s before both women looked away.
Bai Ruoxi was seething inside. Not only had her boyfriend been entangled in a scandal with a celebrity, but he’d also gotten shot while with her—and now there was another stunning woman keeping vigil at his bedside all night.
Just how much effort had this bastard put into his philandering over the past few months?
As for Xu Jing and Xia Xiaozhi, Bai Ruoxi—like Lin Moli—dismissed them instantly. No sane adult woman would view high school girls as romantic rivals.
If Jiang Fei hadn’t been lying injured in a hospital bed, Bai Ruoxi’s pride would have made her walk out immediately.
Jiang Fei’s expression was pained as he watched the two women. He felt like a cheating husband caught red-handed by his wife.
The tension was unbearable.
For the first time, he felt grateful for his injury. If Bai Ruoxi had caught him and Lin Moli under normal circumstances—
The thought alone was too horrifying to entertain.
At least as a wounded man, he could hope these two brilliant women wouldn’t start a full-blown confrontation.
The room fell into an oppressive silence. Even Jiang Fei’s urgent need to pee couldn’t break it.
Xia Xiaozhi and Xu Jing, though young, were sharp enough to sense the storm brewing. They knew Bai Ruoxi was Jiang Fei’s official girlfriend—and what Lin Moli meant to him.
Though they’d fantasized about sneaking into Jiang Fei’s bed someday, right now, they felt utterly outmatched.
The aura these two older women emitted was suffocating.
“Uncle, we’ll head out first. We’ll visit tomorrow,” Xia Xiaozhi said quickly, dragging Xu Jing out the door.
After a pause, Lin Moli stood as well. “I should go too. There’s work waiting at the hospital,” she said with a faint smile.
Before Jiang Fei could respond, she gave him one last complicated look and left.
Now, only Jiang Fei and Bai Ruoxi remained in the room—a long-separated couple reunited under less-than-ideal circumstances.
