Special Agent’s Rebirth: The Almighty Goddess of Quick Transmigration - Chapter 261
As she spoke, a few brave ordinary people raised their hands in agreement.
Ye Xiangxiang toyed with a zombie crystal, giving Gu Yuan a strange look but keeping her thoughts to herself.
Su Ran fell silent for a moment before walking toward Ye Shaohua. “You just woke up, so you probably don’t know yet—the apocalypse has arrived. Some people have awakened supernatural abilities, but many more have turned into zombies. While humanity needs to stick together in times like these, I can’t just take in someone who might drag the team down. Can you defend yourself?”
Ye Shaohua picked up a fruit knife from the table, flipping it casually in her hand. “Where are you headed?”
“Jing City,” Su Ran replied, already sizing her up as she played with the knife. “The broadcasts say there’s a safe zone established there.”
“Good. I’ll go with you,” Ye Shaohua said with a faint smile. “I need to find my parents in Jing City. Don’t worry—keeping me around will be more than worth it.”
“Captain!” A tanned soldier in military uniform pulled Su Ran aside urgently. “Why did you agree to take her? She’ll slow us down! And Xu Qi just told me she’s definitely not team material…”
Su Ran frowned at his words.
His gaze shifted toward Xu Qi, Ye Xiangxiang, and Gu Yuan.
Something about these three felt off. They were strong enough to survive on their own, yet they had sought out his team and insisted on joining. There was no reason for them to stick around.
“Enough. My decision’s final,” Su Ran cut him off with a wave.
He glanced back at Ye Shaohua. She had been unconscious for two full days before waking up—how could she not have an ability?
Something wasn’t right.
Ye Shaohua sat alone on the living room couch. No one wanted to approach her at a time like this.
Su Ran brought her a piece of bread and a sausage. “You’re sure she’s your cousin? She didn’t even bother filling you in after you woke up?” He nodded toward Ye Xiangxiang and Gu Yuan’s group.
“No idea.” Ye Shaohua thanked him with a quiet laugh.
Those three probably wanted her dead—why would they ever warn her?
…..
Meanwhile, Ye Xiangxiang, observing Xu Qi and Gu Yuan’s unusual behavior compared to their past lives, suspected they might also be reincarnated. She found an excuse to pull them aside.
“You two… you’re reborn too, aren’t you?” she said bluntly.
The three had met through Ye Shaohua in their previous lives and fought side by side, forming a life-or-death bond. The moment they’d all independently sought out Su Ran’s team, they’d guessed the truth.
“What do we do now? Su Ran actually agreed to take Ye Shaohua with them,” Xu Qi muttered, his tone sharp with irritation.
The memory of Ye Shaohua storming the lab still haunted him.
They had already sent their parents to Jing City. The only reason they’d stayed behind was to join Su Ran’s team.
In their past lives, they’d encountered Su Ran but refused to travel with him because his group included ordinary survivors.
It wasn’t until they reached the N City safe zone that they learned Su Ran was a dual-element Thunder-Fire ability user—and the second-in-command of Jing City’s safe zone.
With him, they could rise even higher this time.
“I remember Jing City’s safe zone had a brain-domain ability user in our past life,” Ye Xiangxiang said quietly. “Right before we died, there were rumors they’d developed a treatment for zombie bites. If we can get into their safe zone, that brain-domain user will protect us.”
The other two nodded.
They’d only realized much later that the most powerful abilities weren’t Thunder or Fire—they were psychic-type brain-domain abilities.
But brain-domain users were rare. Too rare. And only one was strong enough to matter—the one in Jing City’s safe zone.
That person was humanity’s last hope.
“So what do we do now?” Xu Qi cursed under his breath. “Su Ran’s letting her stay. Should I just kill her tonight?”
“No. Su Ran’s military. If we kill her, he’ll find out,” Ye Xiangxiang said firmly.
Gu Yuan scowled. “So we just let that idiot screw us over again? I’m not sticking with her this time.”
The other two shared his sentiment.
“Then we’ll have to warn Su Ran,” Ye Xiangxiang concluded. “If he won’t listen, we’ll go to Jing City ourselves. Either way, if Ye Shaohua stays with them, his team won’t make it to the safe zone alive.”
…..
The next day, the group prepared to depart for Jing City.
Su Ran was studying a map when Gu Yuan and the others fixed their dark gazes on Ye Shaohua.
After exchanging glances, the three approached Su Ran.
“Captain Su, are you really taking Ye Shaohua to Jing City?” Ye Xiangxiang asked.
Su Ran set the map down, studying them before his eyes settled on her. “Aren’t you her cousin? Do you want me to abandon her too?”
“Captain Su, listen to me—Ye Shaohua is a monster. She’ll bring disaster to the entire team,” Ye Xiangxiang said gravely. “If you trust me, leave her behind. The three of us will stay with you.”
“And if I don’t?” Su Ran smirked.
He might not fully grasp Ye Shaohua’s capabilities yet, but these three unsettled him far more.
“So you’d really choose her over us?” Xu Qi looked stunned. “We could tell you how to level up your abilities. Even that won’t change your mind?”
The method to enhance abilities had been discovered by Ye Shaohua in their past lives—but it was the brain-domain user in Jing City who later perfected and distributed the technique.
A year from now, it would become common knowledge. But in these early days of the apocalypse, such information was priceless.
Yet Su Ran still refused.
“Everyone, get ready. We’re moving out,” he called to the rest of the group.
As Ye Shaohua followed Su Ran, Ye Xiangxiang glared after them, resentment burning in her chest.
“Su Ran, you’ll regret this decision.”
…Well, uh. See you tomorrow?
