Skills with no cooldown? I become the Undead Scourge! - Chapter 13
In the past, Qin Wuyao might have hesitated.
After all, rift dungeons were comparable in difficulty to team dungeons of the same level.
The Level 10 rift contract in Lu Ran’s hands would naturally open a rift dungeon with equivalent difficulty.
Lu Ran was a Level 8 Necromancer, and though Qin Wuyao had a hidden class, she was only Level 5.
Most professionals who obtained rift contracts either sold them or hired higher-level players—or asked acquaintances—to clear the dungeon for them.
Under normal circumstances, a Level 8 Necromancer and a Level 5 Spatial Walker would have no chance of clearing a Level 10 rift dungeon.
But now, Qin Wuyao had no reservations.
She knew that unlike team dungeons—which could be entered solo—rift dungeons had strict rules: they required a party of at least two and at most five players to enter!
The reason Lu Ran had dragged her along was likely because he just needed a placeholder.
He probably hadn’t even considered relying on her for damage.
Soon, the two returned to the Phantom Monarch Butterfly area. After another ten minutes, they pinpointed the exact location of the rift dungeon entrance marked by the contract.
The sigil on the rift contract began to glow.
Seeing the option to open the rift dungeon, Lu Ran didn’t hesitate.
Instantly, the space before them tore open as if split by an unseen force.
Lu Ran and Qin Wuyao exchanged a glance before stepping through.
After a brief blur in their vision, the scenery before them expanded into a hillside, similar to the Phantom Monarch Butterfly zone they had just left.
The area was sizable, but instead of butterflies, it was populated by hulking black bears lumbering about.
Their dark fur gleamed with a cold, metallic sheen under the sunlight, their backs armored with iron-like plating.
“Level 10 Ironback Black Bears!” Qin Wuyao recognized them immediately.
Lu Ran was no stranger to them either.
The academy had covered low-level dungeon data extensively.
Checking the dungeon name, he confirmed it was indeed a Level 10 rift dungeon: Blackbear Slope.
Rift dungeons existed independently of regular dungeons, with fixed levels but randomized monsters.
They contained only one boss and numerous lesser mobs—no elites.
“Ironback Black Bears have slow attack speed but deal heavy damage. Their defense and HP are also high. We need to be careful,” Qin Wuyao warned.
“No problem. Let’s start killing.” Lu Ran shrugged.
With that, he planted his staff into the ground.
A torrent of skeletal soldiers erupted forth, instantly flooding the area before them.
Since the dungeon’s terrain was open with no fixed zones, Lu Ran simply spread his skeletons outward. Any bear they encountered would be met with a Corpse Explosion!
[Party has slain an Ironback Black Bear. EXP gained: 180.]
“Damn, the EXP is insane!” Lu Ran’s eyes lit up.
This was nearly triple the EXP of a Level 5 Frost Wolf from Frostwolf Valley!
Yet the difficulty was the same—after all, no matter the enemy, they’d just get swarmed and hacked apart by skeletons. Anything that survived would be finished off with an explosion!
“It really is high!” Qin Wuyao was equally excited.
She had never entered a dungeon before. Grinding wild monsters in the open world came with EXP penalties, and their base EXP was pitiful—only 30 per kill!
She had originally planned to hire a carry for a Level 5 dungeon today.
But now, Lu Ran had dragged her into a rift dungeon instead.
A single monster here gave 180 EXP!
And Lu Ran’s clearing speed was absurdly fast!
Even after using Corpse Explosion to finish off stragglers, his mana regenerated naturally, allowing him to sustain the onslaught.
Throughout the entire process, neither of them had to lift a finger—they simply looted the bear corpses as they advanced.
Not only did rift dungeons grant high EXP, but their drop rates were also generous.
From the mobs alone, Lu Ran had already picked up over a dozen blue-tier items and even a purple rare!
Unfortunately, all the gear that dropped in this rift dungeon was heavy armor—useless for a magic-based class like him, but perfect for selling!
Strolling leisurely through the dungeon, Qin Wuyao reached Level 6 just before they encountered the boss.
As the second-ranked newcomer, she had already been close to leveling up. With the rift dungeon’s massive EXP gains, it was only natural.
For Lu Ran, though the EXP was substantial, he still had a ways to go before reaching Level 9.
After clearing all the mobs, they arrived at the boss’s territory.
Having already blown up plenty of Frostwolf Kings, Lu Ran was well-practiced. To be safe, he stockpiled another wave of skeletons outside before giving the signal.
Over a hundred skeletal soldiers surged forward in a dark tide, detonating the moment they reached the boss!
The enraged bear king roared, swiping wildly at the skeletons around it.
But it couldn’t withstand the relentless explosions.
In less than ten seconds, its health bar was emptied.
With a final, pitiful howl, it collapsed lifelessly.
Boom!
Five items burst from the boss’s corpse.
Two blue, two purple—and one golden!
“A golden item!” Lu Ran’s eyes gleamed.
Gold-tier gear was legendary!
Even at Level 10, its value was astronomical!
He rushed over and scooped up all the loot.
“Ugh, this stupid dungeon only drops heavy armor! As a caster, I can’t use any of it!” Lu Ran groaned.
If the legendary item had been caster gear, he could’ve equipped it at Level 10 and massively upgraded his setup.
Instead, he’d have to sell everything.
Still, overall, the total value of the drops was staggering.
Compared to the cost of the rift contract itself, this was an insane profit!
“We got lucky. Even with rift dungeons’ high drop rates, legendary items are still rare,” Qin Wuyao remarked.
As for gold, Lu Ran had collected over 5,000—not bad at all!
…..
Meanwhile, at the Liang household…
Liang Shaoyu and Liang Tai sat together, their expressions grim.
“Father, those three going offline doesn’t necessarily mean they’re dead. They might’ve just set their communicators to ‘Do Not Disturb,’” Liang Shaoyu ventured cautiously.
“I sent them to kill Lu Ran. They vanished without a word, and suddenly their statuses are all offline?” Liang Tai countered.
Liang Shaoyu fell silent.
Frowning, Liang Tai muttered, “But if they are dead… how? Killing Lu Ran shouldn’t have been an issue unless someone else interfered. Could the Qin family be involved?”
More importantly—was Lu Ran dead? And what about the gear?
“Father… what if those three got greedy after seeing Lu Ran’s unbound equipment and just ran off with it?” Liang Shaoyu suggested.
Liang Tai’s face darkened. That was a possibility.
But just as the two were stewing over the situation, a subordinate rushed in to report:
“Lu Ran and Qin Wuyao have returned from the wilderness—completely unharmed!”
