Immortal Cultivation: Starting as a Fortune Cultivator - Chapter 4
Mount Cloudveil was built upon a fourth-tier spiritual vein, and the spiritual energy within the mountain was dozens of times denser than the outside world!
The Ye family had managed and developed the area for generations, constructing numerous pavilions and cave dwellings across the mountain.
A faint, shimmering barrier enveloped the entire mountain range at its periphery.
Led by Ye Yonglun, the group quickly passed through the barrier and entered the interior of Mount Cloudveil.
The moment he stepped inside the barrier, Ye Qingxuan felt as if he had entered an incredibly comfortable environment, surrounded by pure white, swirling mists and clouds.
“Wow, so this is Mount Cloudveil?”
Beside him, Ye Qingxiao couldn’t hold back his excited exclamations after entering the mountain.
The space around them was already gathering quite a crowd—these were all clansmen from Ye Immortal City who had tested positive for spiritual roots.
Without pausing, Ye Yonglun led Ye Qingxuan and the others flying towards the mountain peak.
They only came to a stop upon reaching the summit, in front of the largest structure in Mount Cloudveil—the Ancestral Hall.
After landing, Ye Qingxuan looked around. He and Ye Qingxiao followed behind Ye Yonglun and Ye Yongqing, slowly walking into the Ancestral Hall.
Ye Yongqing, hanging back slightly, whispered into the ears of Ye Qingxuan and the other boy:
“This is the Ancestral Hall. Shortly, the ceremony for entry into the clan registry will be held for you. Be careful not to speak loudly!”
“Yes, thank you, Uncle.”
Ye Qingxuan similarly whispered his thanks to Ye Yongqing for the reminder.
Ye Qingxiao beside him, however, seemed awed by the solemn atmosphere of the Ancestral Hall. He didn’t speak, just nodded hurriedly.
The few of them entered the main hall. The space inside was unexpectedly vast and was already filled with many people.
Ye Qingxuan and Ye Qingxiao imitated the other young boys and girls inside, joining the line at a gap. Ye Yonglun and Ye Yongqing went to the very front of the hall to report their mission complete.
Scanning the room, Ye Qingxuan noticed over a hundred young boys and girls had already gathered.
At the very front of the hall, a group of clansmen wearing the Ye family attire had also assembled. Leading them was an elderly man with white hair, a long beard, a spirited demeanor, and a kindly smile.
Although the gathered youths in the hall weren’t being loud, most couldn’t resist chatting quietly amongst themselves.
The elder at the front didn’t stop them, allowing a touch of mundane life to permeate the otherwise solemn atmosphere of the Ancestral Hall.
Time passed, and more people continuously trickled into the Ancestral Hall.
Before long, once everyone had arrived, the leading elder stepped forward and spoke with a chuckle:
“Alright, little ones, let’s have some quiet!”
At his words, everyone in the hall instantly fell silent, becoming as obedient as well-behaved children.
Once everyone was quiet, the elder continued:
“I am Ye Wenmao, one of the family’s administrative elders. This year, I am responsible for presiding over the Ancestral Hall affairs.”
“This year, our Ye family has identified a total of two hundred and fifteen young seedlings with immortal potential. Shortly, we will hold the ceremony to enter your names into the clan registry.”
“After the ceremony concludes, you will have a period of six months to study the foundational knowledge of cultivation and the Ye family precepts. Those who pass the assessment may then select a cultivation technique and begin their preliminary steps into cultivation.”
“Those who do not pass will need to self-study and master the foundational knowledge on their own. Only after passing the assessment will they be allowed to begin cultivation!”
Hearing the elder’s words, Ye Qingxuan didn’t find anything unreasonable about it; in fact, it seemed very logical to him.
Most of them had come from Ye Immortal City and were essentially completely ignorant of basic knowledge, meridian points, and the precautions of cultivation.
Spending six months learning all this to build a foundation felt very necessary to him.
After all, cultivation wasn’t child’s play. A single misstep could lead to a tragic price.
Up front, Ye Wenmao finished speaking and paused for a moment. Seeing no one raised any objections, his expression turned solemn as he announced:
“The Ye Family Clan Entry Ceremony begins now! Bring forth the Clan Registry!”
As soon as the words left his mouth, a cyan-jade-colored book materialized in mid-air. Its pages turned automatically, flipping past a long list of names before stopping at a blank section.
Simultaneously, a cyan-jade brush condensed into existence, hovering beside the registry.
Once everything was ready, Ye Wenmao spoke again:
“Don’t be nervous. Come forward one by one and simply write your name in the registry.”
He then turned his gaze towards the girl at the very front of the line.
This girl showed no trace of timidity. Instead, she stepped forward calmly and confidently, picked up the brush, and wrote her name—Ye Qingshuang.
Seeing this, a satisfied smile appeared on Ye Wenmao’s face.
After the girl’s name entered the registry, a leaf-shaped jade token began to coalesce, imprinted with the name ‘Ye Qingshuang’.
Seeing the jade token, the girl glanced somewhat hesitantly at Ye Wenmao.
Sensing her gaze, Ye Wenmao chuckled and said:
“Go on, take it! This is your Clan Token. From now on, it will symbolize your identity. Do not lose it!”
Hearing his words, Ye Qingshuang nodded her head slightly:
“Yes, Elder!”
She then reached out and firmly grasped her own Clan Token!
With the girl leading the way, the others began to step forward one by one in an orderly fashion to sign their names.
Soon, it was Ye Qingxuan’s turn.
He gently wrote his name, watching as it transformed into a stream of light and merged into the registry, settling into a blank space.
He stared blankly at his already formed jade token. It took him a good while to snap out of it, reach out, take hold of the token, and step aside.
“Perhaps, at this moment, I have truly left my own mark on this world. From now on, I finally have roots in this world, a foundation and an ultimate place I belong?”
Parents are home, capable of giving him emotional bonds.
But in this world, cultivators seek longevity and eternal vision. Parents cannot accompany him forever. Perhaps a group of like-minded clansmen could be his long-term companions?
Finally, Ye Qingxuan shook his head with a wry smile.
His lifespan was eternal. In the end, he would witness everyone around him pass away one by one.
Loneliness was the final destination on the path of cultivation.
At this moment, he felt lost again!
If that was the case, then what use was his eternal lifespan?
What meaning did the path of immortality—which he had so looked forward to, been excited and nervous about, and was soon to step onto—hold?
Ye Qingxuan slowly closed his eyes. Memories of his past life and present life flooded his mind: his parents in this life, the clansmen connected by blood though their interactions had been brief.
“The path of immortality! The path of immortality!”
His thoughts were in turmoil. Ye Qingxuan felt as if he had suddenly lost his direction forward.
Memories from his past and present lives churned incessantly in his mind. Suddenly, one piece of information from among them cut through his chaotic thoughts, bringing a glimmer of hope!
In the novels of his previous world, there were countless supremely powerful beings, and the top-tier among them nearly all possessed omnipotent means.
If he himself could time travel like the characters in those novels, then surely across the vast expanse of time, he could reach the level of those top-tier powers?
Perhaps, if he himself reached the pinnacle, he could extend his own eternity, shatter all rules, and allow those he thought of and missed to share in that eternity with him?
The moment this thought appeared, it infinitely amplified within Ye Qingxuan’s mind. It was as if he had grabbed a final lifeline, found a new goal.
When he reopened his eyes, a fleeting light seemed to swirl within them. His soul seemed to have undergone an incredible transformation.
Even before he had begun cultivating, his soul had already begun to rapidly solidify within the space of his mind.
It continuously enhanced Ye Qingxuan’s already powerful soul origin.
From this point on, he had no more doubts in his heart, because he had found his ultimate goal for setting foot on the path of immortality!
Ye Wenmao at the front seemed to sense a change in Ye Qingxuan. But when he looked more closely, he couldn’t discern anything specific. He only felt as if Ye Qingxuan now possessed a certain quality.
At times, he could easily see through the seemingly ordinary Ye Qingxuan. Other times, he felt as if there was a layer of mist around Ye Qingxuan, making him unfathomable!
It was utterly contradictory!
In the end, Ye Wenmao withdrew his gaze.
“I’m getting old! So old! Now I can’t even see through a youngster who hasn’t even started cultivating yet!”
Ah well, so be it. It didn’t matter, as long as his surname was Ye!
Ye Wenmao set aside his doubts and turned his gaze back towards the Clan Registry.
As for Ye Qingxuan, feeling the vanished gaze, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.
