Honkai: Oh No, I’ve Become the Herrscher of Corruption?! - Chapter 124
When the plane crashed, Enoxia, like Siegfried, gritted her teeth before decisively stopping Sirin from attempting a rescue. Only after the plane exploded, thick smoke billowing into the sky, did she allow Sirin to teleport them near the wreckage.
“Eno, even if she’s the product of the Kaslana and Schariac bloodlines, she’s still just a six-year-old child. Surely there was no need to—”
Hundreds of meters away from the plane, a child lay motionless in the snow. The two approached and checked—she was still alive.
“Falling from six thousand meters, head injury… and yet she survived. Is she even human?”
Enoxia pondered. Not a MANTIS, not a Herrscher, no Divine Key—yet capable of fighting Herrschers. It was hard to say whether she still fell within the bounds of humanity. In terms of innate talent, only Kevin and Kalpas might have matched her… Well, maybe Cheng Lingzhu too.
“So, from now on, the name ‘Kiana Kaslana’ no longer belongs to her, and she’ll soon return to Otto’s side?”
“Mm. But don’t worry, Sirin. Otto’s a bastard, but he’ll treat her well as long as she’s valuable to him. If you’re uneasy, you can visit her occasionally. It’s not like Schicksal’s equipment can detect you as a Herrscher anyway.”
“Schicksal’s forces will be here soon. If Otto finds out we were here, it’ll only cause unnecessary trouble for her. Let’s go.”
Back at home, they recounted the entire incident to Cecilia.
At first, Cecilia’s expression was complicated, but it soon settled into calm.
“First, you shouldn’t blame yourselves. You had no obligation to save anyone. Enoxia merely laid out the facts for Siegfried—the choice was his alone.”
“Second, inheriting the name ‘Kiana Kaslana’ might not be a good thing for her, either.”
Sirin took an agitated step forward.
“Even if… even if I’d never accept Siegfried as my father, since you’re my mother, then Kiana is naturally my little sister. Eno might not have had a duty to save her, but isn’t it a sister’s job to protect her sibling? Yet I…”
Cecilia gave Sirin a gentle smile.
“This just means you’ve grown up, Sirin. You’ve learned to weigh the consequences. When our family is reunited one day, I’m sure you and your sister will get along wonderfully.”
“Mom, are you saying that clone…”
“Of course. If she carries the name ‘Kiana Kaslana,’ if Siegfried sees her as his daughter and you see her as your sister, why would I mind having one more child?”
Enoxia, however, didn’t seem pleased with this answer.
“Cecilia, I expected you’d say something like this, but I can’t shake the feeling… that I’ve taken advantage of your family.”
“Eno, in your plans, will my daughters have friends in the future? Will they have the strength to protect themselves and others? Will they grow into people who contribute to society?”
Enoxia nodded firmly. “They’ll face hardships, yes, but those trials will shape them. They’ll find true friends. As for strength… one’s a Herrscher, the other a Kaslana-Schariac hybrid. They’ll absolutely meet your expectations.”
“Then that’s all that matters, Eno. If you’ve set my daughters on such a path, I should be thanking you. How could it be exploitation?”
Clearly trying to ease the weight on Enoxia’s shoulders, Sirin abruptly changed the subject.
“Eno, that game you’ve been working on should be ready to launch soon, right?”
You never realize how much work something takes until you’re the one doing it. Only after diving into game development did Enoxia understand just how many hurdles stood between founding a company and releasing a game. Even with unlimited funding and zero regard for cost, Phantom Void Brawl still took years to complete. It was finally set for release on October 16, 2006.
Phantom Void Brawl was an open-world adventure game developed and published by Phantom Void Technology Co., Ltd. The story unfolded in the fantasy realm of Avalon, where those chosen by the gods were granted a “Divine Eye” to wield elemental powers.
Players would assume the role of a blonde-haired camera operator and ultimate sleep enthusiast, journeying alongside their emergency food companion. Along the way, they’d meet a diverse cast of characters, each with unique personalities and abilities, banding together to defeat powerful foes, reunite with lost family—and gradually uncover the truth of this world.
“Phantom Void Technology” was, of course, a shell company entirely controlled by Enoxia. Most of the hired programmers were there for appearances—their workload was laughably light, with daily hours far below eight, weekends off, and even a month of paid leave per year.
That’s because over 99% of the game’s code was handled by Enoxia’s clones. But as long as these employees kept their mouths shut, their paychecks matched those of bug-fixing, balding programmers elsewhere.
Naturally, this also meant their cognition could be altered at any moment, turning them into obedient machines for Enoxia’s purposes—without them ever realizing it.
Then again, compared to those slaving away year-round for pennies, were their lives really so different from machines?
Though the game’s premise sounded like Genshin Impact, its gacha mechanics and currency system leaned closer to Honkai Impact 3rd. Both characters and weapons required pulls, with a 100-pull guarantee (no off-banners). The amount of premium currency per version also mirrored Honkai 3rd’s.
The key difference? In Honkai, one pull cost 280 crystals, but in Phantom Void Brawl, it was just 30. The “first-time top-up bonus” reset every version instead of yearly. Since Enoxia wasn’t in it for profit, undercutting the market was the way to go.
“Eno, during the beta test, I saw a lot of hate under the PV—even content creators farming clicks by trashing the game. Aren’t you going to use your Herrscher powers to deal with them?”
Enoxia smirked.
“Sirin, you don’t get it, do you? Marketing has two sides: hype and hate. The more people complain, the more others will think, ‘Just how bad is this game?’ and try it out.”
“But… those ridiculous claims. You’re really not going to do anything?”
At this, Enoxia’s smile turned sweet—yet beneath it, Sirin sensed something chilling.
“Sirin, remember? My human experimentation labs were built alongside this game’s development.”
