As the white mist before her eyes cleared, Yaya saw this scene:
In a pitch-dark forest, the sound of gunfire was constant.
Two groups of people were fighting. Soon, she could distinguish them by their clothing: those in camouflage uniforms were naturally the good guys, while those wearing local traditional attire were the bad guys.
Yaya scratched her head, very puzzled. Why would she have such a strange dream?
However, this wasn’t the first time she had witnessed a war scene up close. In her previous life as a spirit, following her dad around, she had accompanied him on many dangerous missions.
After so many times, she had basically become desensitized; hearing gunshots no longer scared her.
Huh? Is that Godfather?!
Yaya wasn’t sure. She widened her eyes, and Ling Hang’s face came into focus, magnified and clear before her.
It really was Godfather!
Godfather and Dad were always inseparable. If she could see Godfather in the dream, then Dad should be nearby too.
She had to find Dad.
The moment this thought flashed through her mind, the scene before Yaya shifted to two people chasing each other.
The person behind was unmistakably Yue Mingyuan. Like a leopard, he was closing the distance to the person in front at an incredible speed.
The person in front turned around and fired several shots at Yue Mingyuan in succession.
Yue Mingyuan dodged while returning fire, hitting the arm of the person ahead.
But just as he was about to catch up, several people suddenly appeared on the other side of the border marker. They all raised their guns, aiming at Yue Mingyuan.
Yaya was instantly frantic!
“Dad!”
She shouted. Suddenly, several birds and other animals appeared. In short, with coordination from land and air, they distracted those people, leaving them no time to deal with Yue Mingyuan.
The person in front, shocked, slowed his pace. Yue Mingyuan lunged forward, pinning him to the ground, then quickly dragged him into a nearby bush.
By the time those people turned back, both figures had vanished.
The men were both furious and stunned. The animals had fled so quickly that they couldn’t catch a single one.
Meanwhile, with the help of the little animals, Yue Mingyuan successfully subdued the man.
Over at Ling Hang’s side, the fight was mostly over. The other two squads were cleaning up the battlefield. He took three other team members and hurried to find Yue Mingyuan.
When they saw Yue Mingyuan bringing the captive over, Ling Hang was thrilled. He stepped forward and punched Yue Mingyuan’s shoulder: “Leopard, well done.”
“Are you hurt?”
“No, you?”
Ling Hang glanced at his shoulder: “It’s nothing, a minor injury.”
Yue Mingyuan handed the captive over to the others and quickly tended to Ling Hang’s wound.
They had brought quite a lot of the medicine prepared by Elder Dong this time. Fortunately, in their squad, only Ling Hang had been grazed by a bullet. Yue Mingyuan gave the remaining medicine to the other two squads.
One soldier was severely wounded, and stopping the bleeding was most critical on the battlefield.
“Captain Yue, your medicine is really effective.”
Local Armed Police Captain Zhu Dongshan saw his soldier’s bleeding stop and looked at Yue Mingyuan with deep gratitude.
“Captain Zhu, we didn’t bring much this time. Besides this, we have a bit more, all for you.”
Zhu Dongshan clasped his hands in a salute to Yue Mingyuan: “Captain Yue, a great favor is beyond words.”
“Don’t mention it. We’re all brother units.”
“Captain Yue, where did you get this medicine? Could you arrange for more for us after you return?”
Zhu Dongshan sighed: “You know we often deal with drug traffickers. Getting injured is commonplace, but our medical conditions here just can’t keep up.”
“Captain Zhu, after I return, I’ll inquire how much can be allocated to you.”
“Captain Yue, we’re all brothers. We need it too,” said Yan Jian, captain of another squad.
“I can’t promise, but I’ll do my absolute best.”
Both Yan Jian and Zhu Dongshan had dealt with Yue Mingyuan before and knew his character. They understood Yue Mingyuan had agreed. Once he promised something, he would definitely do it—barring any unforeseen circumstances, of course, which no one could control.
On the way back, Yue Mingyuan replayed the entire battle in his mind.
He thought it over and over but couldn’t figure out how those little animals had appeared or why they had helped him.
The next day.
Yaya opened her eyes to see her whole family gathered around her crib, everyone looking extremely anxious.
“My precious, you scared Grandpa to death.”
Yue Guohuai picked Yaya up from the crib. Seeing the bright sun outside, Yaya realized she had slept for a very long time.
Yaya reached out her little hand, grabbed Yue Guohuai’s finger, and gave him a sweet, grinning smile: [Don’t worry, Grandpa. Yaya is fine. Yaya just had a dream about Daddy.]
[Daddy is on a mission. It’s so dangerous.]
[But luckily, I was there. Yaya saved Daddy! Hehe.]
Yaya laughed happily. Yue Guohuai smiled too, feeling relieved.
Last night, he and his wife had both felt terribly uneasy. He soothed his wife, blaming the hot weather. After she fell asleep, he stood by the window all night.
Since childhood, he had been very strict with his three sons, especially the third.
When the eldest and second were young, he was at war and couldn’t attend to them. Only the third son was raised directly by him.
Everyone envied him for having a tiger father and no dog sons, but only he knew what path they were walking.
The honors on this path were bought with blood, even life!
After everyone left, only Huo Jiusi and Yaya remained in the room. Huo Jiusi held Yaya’s hand: “Yaya, do you feel unwell anywhere?”
[No, I feel perfectly fine.]
Yaya waved her little fist. She remembered the evidence Little Gray had delivered and told Huo Jiusi about it.
Huo Jiusi asked for Yaya’s opinion: “Yaya, what do you think we should do with this evidence?”
[I haven’t figured it out yet, either.]
[But sooner or later, it must be sent to the relevant authorities. It’s just that I think that scumbag must have others behind him. We just don’t know how many people are involved or how deep it goes now.]
Huo Jiusi shared his thoughts: “I think Grandpa Yue and my grandfather should know about this. It’s better for them to handle it.”
Yaya nodded: [Yes, I think so too.]
[Oh, Little Demon, you’re so smart.]
Having heard people call him smart since he was little, to the point his ears were almost calloused, he had long been immune to the word. But being praised by Yaya still made him happy.
“Yaya, you’re very smart too. As expected of my Yaya.” Huo Jiusi kissed Yaya’s little hand.
[Little Demon, I’m not yours! I am me, and you are you, okay?] Yaya pulled her hand back.
“You are you, I am me. You are mine, and I am yours. Is that okay?”
Huo Jiusi tried to hold Yaya’s hand again, but she wouldn’t let him. She puffed out her little cheeks and waved her fist vigorously: [We are people, not objects. Why should we belong to another person?]
