“She asked for my name. I’ll probably be transferred to a different position tomorrow, sent off to some remote, desolate place.”
Zhao Liang’s brow furrowed deeply. “Brother Yu, it’s all my fault. To show you how sorry I am, I’ll send you my treasured collection—fifty terabytes of… ‘seeds’—when I get home tonight.”
“Now that’s what I call brotherhood.”
Zhao Liang said consolingly, “I got you into this mess. If you really do get sent off to the middle of nowhere, at least you’ll have plenty to keep your spirits… well-nourished.”
Yu Xiaoduo was speechless.
He had originally planned to hit the internet cafe for a couple of games, but now he wasn’t in the mood.
Jinhui South Garden was a second-tier residential community in Longhai City. While not as expensive as the top-tier luxury estates, units still went for around eighty to ninety thousand yuan per square meter.
“Brother Yu, I’m heading back first. Late-night snack is on me.”
“Let’s make it tomorrow.”
“Hell, if you get exiled, Brother Yu, I’m coming with you,” Zhao Liang declared with fierce determination, slapping his broad chest. Inwardly, he was thinking he could just treat it as a weight-loss program.
Yu Xiaoduo scoffed. “Cut the act. Your dad pulled every string he had to get you that job. If you do anything rash, he’ll shave the flesh right off your bones.”
“Brother Yu, you really are a good guy.”
“Get lost.” Spinning his car keys, Yu Xiaoduo walked into his elevator bay, while Zhao Liang headed for the one on the opposite side.
The two had been living in the same complex for several years. They met on the basketball court and, finding themselves kindred spirits, started hanging out together.
Yu Xiaoduo punched in the code on the digital lock and opened his front door, tossing his car keys onto the shoe cabinet nearby. “I’m home.”
A man with a square jaw and a full beard was sitting on the sofa watching financial news. This was Yu Xiaoduo’s father, Yu Taiduo. The beautiful woman cooking in the kitchen was his mother, Tang Ling.
“Duoduo, go wash your hands, dinner’s almost ready. We’ve got good news!” Tang Ling called out excitedly from the kitchen.
Yu Xiaoduo thought to himself, Well, I’ve got some news for you too. I’ve already managed to offend the general manager who just arrived at the group.
The meal was a standard three dishes and a soup. Once seated, Yu Taiduo asked, “So, I heard the new leadership arrived at your company today. How is it?”
How else could it be? Your son here ran his mouth and flirted with her, effectively digging his own professional grave.
Tang Ling made a disapproving sound and pulled out her phone. “Why talk about work during dinner? Duoduo, this morning I went to pray for your marriage prospects. They said you’re about to encounter some romantic luck! Then this afternoon, Auntie Wang called. There’s a girl born in ’98, university graduate, 165 centimeters tall, works at a foreign company. Look, here’s a photo.”
Yu Xiaoduo glanced at the picture. Hey, not bad at all. Oval face, big eyes, a sweet smile. A stark contrast to President Gu’s icy demeanor.
“Not bad,” Yu Xiaoduo nodded silently to himself.
“I knew you’d like her! So I already set up a dinner meeting for tomorrow night.”
Yu Taiduo said seriously, “Don’t blow it, kiddo. Your mother wants to hold a grandchild.”
“Don’t worry. When I, Yu Xiaoduo, make a move, there’s no girl I can’t charm.”
“All talk. If you’re so capable, bring a girl home for us to meet,” Yu Taiduo shot back without mercy.
Tang Ling put away her phone and ladled some seaweed and egg drop soup for Yu Xiaoduo, saying with a proud smile, “You should have seen it today at the marriage temple. So many parents were there praying for their kids’ matches! And when they heard my son works at the Gu Corporation, they were practically tripping over each other to introduce their daughters.”
Yu Xiaoduo felt his composure shatter internally. If he came clean now, his mom would probably flip the dinner table.
Despite her gentle and virtuous appearance, when his mom lost her temper, even his dad couldn’t stop her. Better to keep this under wraps for now. Definitely shouldn’t drop this bomb while she was in such a good mood.
After dinner, the family of three sat on the sofa eating fruit. Suddenly, Gu Wan’er’s image appeared on the television news.
“Today, the general manager of the Gu Corporation’s Longhai City branch made an appearance in the city. To the surprise of many, the position is held by a young and exceptionally beautiful woman. President Gu, taking on such a heavy responsibility at your age, do you feel any pressure? President Gu… would you care to say a few words?”
The Gu Wan’er on screen completely ignored the reporter. Her stunningly beautiful face wore an expression of cold aloofness, exactly like it had been in the elevator.
“Duoduo, is that the president of your group? She’s so gorgeous! Imagine having her as a daughter-in-law, how prestigious that would be!” Tang Ling exclaimed while peeling an orange.
Pfft! Yu Xiaoduo spat out the water he was drinking. His mother’s “future daughter-in-law” was about to make his life difficult tomorrow. Still, he figured it was best to forget about it. This ice queen type just wasn’t his preference.
Yu Taiduo sipped his goji berry tea and jabbed, “Him? With his nerve? I doubt he could handle it.”
“True.”
Yu Xiaoduo rolled his eyes. Were these two really his parents? Sometimes he seriously wondered if he’d been picked out of a trash bin.
“I’m going to play games,” he announced, getting up and heading to his room, locking the door behind him as if he were about to do something clandestine.
Work during the day, games at night, outings on weekends, then marriage and kids. That was the life plan Yu Xiaoduo had mapped out for himself. No grand ambitions, just a simple, unpretentious existence.
After a shower, he lay down on his bed. Yu Xiaoduo decided he’d just have to take things as they came.
His big mouth had landed him in this mess.
As his thoughts drifted, Yu Xiaoduo fell into a deep sleep. He even dreamed that the icy Gu Wan’er had ordered her four bodyguards to beat him up. He fought back valiantly, only to end up lying on the ground refusing to get up until he’d squeezed several million yuan out of them.
He didn’t know how long he’d been asleep when a pressing urge to urinate woke him. Stumbling groggily out of bed and into the bathroom, he lifted the toilet seat and yawned.
But the familiar splashing sound didn’t come. Instead, he felt a stream of warmth running down the inside of his thighs.
Confused, he looked down.
Where was the old chap?
As his consciousness sharpened, Yu Xiaoduo let out a blood-curdling shriek and fell backward onto the floor in stunned disbelief.
This has to be a dream. It’s definitely a dream.
He slapped his cheeks, but the slaps only made him more alert. He… he had turned into a woman!
NO!!!
After half an hour of sitting there, stunned, Yu Xiaoduo was forced to accept the bizarre reality. His consciousness was now inside a woman’s body.
His mom had said he’d have romantic luck soon, but she never mentioned he’d become the romance!
He stood up and walked to the sink, looking at his reflection in the mirror.
“Holy crap!” Yu Xiaoduo gasped. It was that familiar, stunningly beautiful face. This was President Gu!
Oh my God. He had actually become the general manager of the Gu Corporation, Gu Wan’er. His mind was completely blown!
He stood frozen for a long moment, then pinched his cheek. It was soft and supple. He pinched his nose. Seemed natural, not surgically enhanced. This face appeared to be the real deal. He wondered if everything else was just as natural.
Maybe I should take a shower first. This is way too awkward.
But now the question presented itself: should he shower wearing this pink silk nightgown, or take it off?
I, Yu Xiaoduo, am not one to take advantage. So, I’ll just shower with my eyes closed. Wow, her skin is so smooth… Oops, sorry, my bad. My hand slipped with my eyes closed.
A while later, wrapped in a bathrobe, Yu Xiaoduo turned on the bedroom light. He was surprised to find that the aloof President Gu’s bedroom was decorated entirely in pink, complete with large plush dolls. She was all icy composure on the outside but clearly a little girl at heart.
