“Holy shit, you guys slow the hell down!”
“What’s the rush? You got a death wish or something?”
“Holy shit!”
By the time the First-Class Police Superintendent finally caught up, gasping for air, the scene before him made him curse out loud.
He’d climbed his way up to this position.
He’d seen his fair share of storms.
He’d prided himself on the fact that there wasn’t much left in this world that could rattle him.
But what he was seeing now still left him utterly stunned.
Think about it—how much time had even passed?
From the moment they received the call to now.
At most, maybe half an hour!
And yet, here lay over a dozen dead bodies!
That worked out to roughly one death every two minutes!
What the actual—
“Freeze! Hands up!”
He immediately raised his sidearm, aiming it at Jiang Nian, his face a mask of vigilance.
The Superintendent couldn’t be sure whether this man was responsible for all these deaths.
But he did know one thing: as the sole survivor at the scene, this guy was definitely no ordinary person.
By this time, Jiang Nian had already returned to his normal state. That strange, heightened state from earlier had faded, leaving him feeling somewhat drained. The events from moments ago were still vivid in his mind.
Especially those lines he’d spoken—the memory of them now made him want to cringe and dig a hole with his toes.
Why the hell did Yu Huatian have to possess him out of nowhere?
This wasn’t a movie set, and he wasn’t actually a eunuch.
But still, in that state, he’d been unusually ferocious. His martial techniques had flowed seamlessly, and his combat effectiveness had skyrocketed!
What was that all about?
Now wasn’t the time to dwell on it, though. Seeing the police had arrived and seemed to have the wrong idea, Jiang Nian didn’t waste a second—he raised both hands immediately.
After all, these guys were all packing guns.
One wrong move, an accidental discharge—
And even he might not be able to dodge it.
Compared to crossbow bolts, bullets were just too small, too hard to see coming, and not exactly catchable.
Not to mention, if he did manage to dodge, it would definitely trigger a panic response from these officers.
If they emptied their magazines all at once, no matter how skilled he was, he’d still be a dead man.
The Superintendent had no idea what was going through Jiang Nian’s head.
All he saw was that Jiang Nian obediently raised his hands, cooperative and non-threatening, so he immediately ordered his men to move in and slap the cuffs on him.
Only after that did the Superintendent breathe a sigh of relief.
He then took another look at the gruesome scene, turned to Jiang Nian with a furious glare, and barked, “Talk! Who sent you?!”
“Sent me? Nobody sent me!” Jiang Nian replied, utterly confused. Then, realizing something, he gave the Superintendent a deadpan look. “Uh, Officer, hear me out here—is it possible that I’m actually the victim who was being hunted?”
At that—
Superintendent: “???”
Other cops: “???”
They looked at the carnage all over the ground, then back at the blood-soaked Jiang Nian.
One thought echoed through all their minds simultaneously: Are you seriously gonna sit there and say that with a straight face?
The Superintendent’s face darkened. “Cut the crap. Take him away!”
“Name.”
“Jiang Nian.”
“Age.”
“Twenty—uh, make that twenty-one, probably.”
Half an hour later, at the police station, inside an interrogation room.
After taking a shower and changing into clean clothes, Jiang Nian sat upright in his chair, answering the questions with model compliance.
Across from him, the interrogator glanced at the report in his hand, twitching at the corner of his mouth. “So, according to the statement you gave to the detectives earlier, you were the one being hunted, but because you’ve trained in martial arts, you managed to take down these criminals. Is that right?”
“Yeah, but not entirely,” Jiang Nian said, pausing to think. “To be more precise, they cornered me with no way out—I was about to die. I had no choice but to turn and fight them, and then, well, I kind of accidentally killed them.”
He paused for a beat, then added, “See, the thing is, I’ve been practicing martial arts for quite a while, but it’s a law-abiding society, so I’ve never actually been in a real fight—zero combat experience. I never imagined that one day, as an ordinary citizen, I’d get caught up in a terrorist attack. So my stress response was a little too intense, and that’s how this tragedy happened.”
Jiang Nian looked up at the officer across from him and asked cautiously, “Officer, this should count as self-defense, right? And honestly, it’s practically an act of heroism—without me, things would’ve gotten a whole lot worse.”
Listening to Jiang Nian’s mouth run a mile a minute, spinning one excuse after another—
The interrogator’s eyelid began to twitch.
Right, right, right. Not a single survivor left, and that’s your definition of “self-defense.”
Honestly, if it weren’t for the fact that Jiang Nian was the victim here—and the hero who’d stopped this terrorist attack—he’d be slamming the table and standing up to curse him out right now.
Did he think he was an idiot?
Spinning that kind of nonsense?
But unfortunately, Jiang Nian was the victim, the hero, and out of basic human decency, he couldn’t do that. So he suppressed his urge to retort and said, “As for the self-defense claim, we still need to assess that. Please be patient, Mr. Jiang. But more importantly right now—we want to know how you killed them.”
“Because according to our intel, they were carrying a full suite of tactical gear. These were professional terrorists, not some street thugs. They were clearly organized and trained.”
“And yet you had nothing.”
“And their deaths—why were they so brutal?”
After rattling off that string of questions, the interrogator fixed his gaze on Jiang Nian, waiting to hear his response.
To his surprise, Jiang Nian put on an innocent look and said:
“I don’t know, man. I was terrified out of my mind—I was just flailing around like crazy. Next thing I knew, they were all like that.”
“Maybe they got into some kind of argument and ended up killing each other? What do you think?”
Jiang Nian analyzed the situation with a perfectly serious expression, then tossed the question right back at the interrogator.
“?”
The interrogator blinked.
Then it hit him, and he stared at Jiang Nian with a look that screamed WTF?
Wait—wasn’t he the one asking the questions here? How did it suddenly turn around and become Jiang Nian asking him?
He was about to say something when Jiang Nian continued:
“Oh, speaking of them—I do have a question for you guys. If I remember correctly, this is Daxia, right? Not some foreign country?”
“I distinctly recall that we have pretty strict controls on contraband items here. So how is it that I come here today for a movie promotional event, hang out with some fans, and end up getting attacked by terrorists who were trying to blow up the whole building?”
“I’m really curious—where did they come from? And even more curious—how did they get in?”
“Can you give me an explanation for that?”
Jiang Nian folded his hands on the table, his eyes sharp as he stared at the interrogator.
The moment those words left his mouth, the interrogator froze, staring back at Jiang Nian at a loss for words.
Not just because it was a difficult question to answer—
But because there was simply no good way to respond to that!
Jiang Nian had slipped in a crucial detail during his questioning: he was an actor.
And what does an actor mean?
A celebrity!
One of the most publicly influential groups in society today!
If Jiang Nian went public with what happened today, the consequences for the city would be catastrophic.
Meanwhile, in the next room—
As they listened to Jiang Nian’s words, everyone’s expressions shifted.
With their experience, they could easily tell that Jiang Nian was making a veiled threat.
But they couldn’t really get mad about it.
Because the fallout from this incident was massive—their superiors had already started asking questions, and after they were done, they’d probably send people down from the capital.
If they mishandled this, their jobs could be on the line.
Just as everyone was mulling this over—
Suddenly, the door swung open, and a group of people barged in without warning.
A square-jawed man walked straight up and flashed his credentials without a word. “Hello. National Security Directorate. We’ve confirmed this to be a terrorist attack. Effective immediately, this case is under our full jurisdiction. You’re all relieved.”
