Ye Shishi was getting really into the story, and she muttered in a low voice, “And then? You didn’t finish.”
“Sis Ye, I really don’t know. I swear. This is a huge scandal—only people within the Tang family know about it. Folks like us, who don’t even share the family name, have no right to know.”
“Then what about his father? What’s he like? There doesn’t seem to be any prominent Yu family out there.” Ye Shishi murmured to herself. A man who could marry a woman from the Tang family couldn’t have been just anybody, right?
But Pan Wei said softly, “I heard he’s just an ordinary guy. Maybe that’s exactly why his mother got stripped of her family name.”
Not far away, Lu Zhengzhi watched the two of them whispering furtively and couldn’t help but snort. “Look at Pan Wei, sucking up like a total lapdog. He’s definitely cooking up some scheme to set Brother Yu and the others up.”
“I was careless this time. I never expected Ye Shishi to have such a trick up her sleeve.” Fu Quan seemed to have caught on too, and a pang of guilt rose in his heart.
“What do you mean?”
“Think about it—why did Old Liang come to you first when he wanted to transfer the place?”
With that hint from Fu Quan, Lu Zhengzhi immediately got it and slapped his thigh. “We fell for it!”
“Yeah. Ye Shishi has changed a lot since she came back this time. She played both of us.” Fu Quan stared at Ye Shishi, feeling reluctant to admit defeat.
Lu Zhengzhi frowned too. He just hoped that even a reckless guy like him could still use his brain.
“Gu Wan’er is probably in for a loss tonight.” Fu Quan let out a long sigh. At this point, nobody could change the outcome.
“Do you think Brother Yu will step in? Didn’t you say he’s just like Ye Shishi—a wolf in sheep’s clothing?” Lu Zhengzhi still clung to a sliver of hope. After all, he’d bet all his allowance on this, and Brother Yu had even staked his entire wedding fund.
Fu Quan said flatly, “This is a fight between women. He can’t do much about it.”
“So we’re doomed for sure?”
“Best of three, and Ye Shishi is just being stubborn and unreasonable.” Fu Quan gave a bitter smile. Now all they could do was leave it to fate.
But just then, Yu Xiaoduo and Gu Wan’er walked out of the house. Everyone turned to look, and they saw Gu Wan’er already changed into her riding gear, her long black hair tied back into a ponytail. She looked sharp and commanding.
Sure, Gu Wan’er had performed well that night, but now that Ye Shishi was back, there was no way she’d support Gu Wan’er. Still, they couldn’t help but admire her courage for daring to challenge Ye Shishi.
Pan Wei didn’t dare say much more and reminded her again, “Sis Ye, please don’t tell anyone about this. If Yu Xiaoduo goes and tattles, my whole family is done for.”
“Relax. No matter what kind of little hell-raiser he used to be, once he’s in Longhai City, even a dragon has to curl up and behave!” With that, Ye Shishi stood up. Her beautiful eyes swept over Gu Wan’er and Yu Xiaoduo, and she noticed that their faces seemed a little flushed.
“Looks like you two are ready.” Ye Shishi grabbed a helmet and hurled it straight at Gu Wan’er. It came in hard—if it hit, it’d definitely cause a nosebleed.
The men nearby let out excited whoops. A fight between women wasn’t just about pulling hair.
But Gu Wan’er extended her slender arm and caught the helmet perfectly by its lower edge, her left hand still tucked casually in her pocket.
People used to think Ye Shishi was super cool and tough, but now they saw that Gu Wan’er was just as impressive. That catch alone—so precise—was something plenty of men couldn’t pull off.
“Holy crap, that was awesome!” Lu Zhengzhi blurted out in surprise.
Fu Quan furrowed his brow slightly. Something felt off about Gu Wan’er. She had that same vibe as the other night. What was going on?
And he wasn’t the only one who felt it—anyone who’d been there that night noticed it too. Had Gu Wan’er taken something inside?
Pan Wei stared at Gu Wan’er in that moment, and a memory from that night suddenly hit him. No way! When she’d first arrived, he hadn’t sensed that at all. So why did she suddenly seem like a completely different person?
A smirk spread across Ye Shishi’s lips. So she did have some skills. That made things interesting. At least it was worth coming all the way back here and catching an earful.
“Keep it low-key. Don’t blow our cover,” Yu Xiaoduo whispered to her.
Gu Wan’er chuckled softly. “Boss Gu, what’s there to be afraid of? Even if we told people, who’d believe us?”
Exactly! Their crazy idea of swapping by kissing and absorbing each other’s brainpower had actually worked. When they’d finished, both of them could hardly believe it. They’d just thrown a wild guess out there, and it succeeded—pure dumb luck.
Especially Gu Wan’er—when she opened her eyes and saw herself standing there, she nearly screamed with joy.
As for Yu Xiaoduo, when he opened his eyes and saw himself, he nearly threw up.
“Miss Ye, so eager to be the number two, are you?” Yu Xiaoduo swayed forward with an alluring stride. Now that he’d become Gu Wan’er, everything felt natural—and finally, he could match her with his own quick tongue.
Hearing Gu Wan’er’s taunts, Ye Shishi wasn’t fazed. “Miss Gu, you seem a little overconfident.”
“Well, let me give you a heads-up—my man is high-maintenance. Bringing him tea, fetching water, warming his bed in winter—you’d better do it all with the utmost respect.” Yu Xiaoduo kept pushing her buttons. If she wanted to be his concubine, she’d better meet the standards.
Gu Wan’er enjoyed hearing this immensely. Only Yu Xiaoduo could say things like that out loud.
Ye Shishi’s expression shifted slightly—not out of anger, but because something seemed off about the Gu Wan’er in front of her. Her way of speaking and her tone felt different. And meanwhile, Yu Xiaoduo just stood there beside her, saying nothing at all.
That was seriously strange.
“I’m actually looking forward to having you bring me my foot-washing water,” Ye Shishi retorted with a cold laugh, then picked up her helmet and walked toward the red Ducati.
Yu Xiaoduo didn’t waste any more words and put on his helmet.
Gu Wan’er came over and warned, “Be careful. Don’t get into trouble.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of your delicate skin,” Yu Xiaoduo said with a cheeky grin. He hadn’t even had his fun yet.
Gu Wan’er shot him a glare—how could he joke at a time like this?
Lu Zhengzhi and Fu Quan walked over from the side. Gu Wan’er put on the familiar smirk Yu Xiaoduo always wore. “Brother Lu, Brother Fu.”
“Brother Yu, are you really letting Gu Wan’er do this?” Lu Zhengzhi asked in disbelief.
Yu Xiaoduo, now with his helmet on, said helplessly, “Brother Lu, I can hear you. Don’t underestimate people.”
“Sis-in-law, that’s not what I meant,” Lu Zhengzhi said apologetically.
Fu Quan said quietly, “You probably don’t know this, but Ye Shishi has a nickname—the Longhai Road God.”
Lu Zhengzhi nodded. “That’s exactly what I mean. Ye Shishi used to do this all the time—whether it was supercars or heavy motorcycles, she was at a pro level. She even trashed some regular pro racers.”
Yu Xiaoduo smiled to himself. When I was playing with cars, she was probably still playing with Barbie dolls. It had been years since he’d last ridden, but the feeling was slowly coming back.
“Gu Wan’er, where’s the finish line?” Fu Quan asked.
“Haoting.”
“Of course. And you have to go through a mountain pass, right?”
“Brother Fu, how did you guess that?” Yu Xiaoduo paused—he hadn’t even looked at the route map.
