The crack grew wider and wider.
A flash of delight crossed Luo Xuanyu’s eyes. “Sister Yanran, follow me.”
Feng Qingran followed the two through the crack and saw a long bridge before her.
There was no railing on either side of the bridge, and beneath it was an endless, unfathomable darkness.
Within that darkness, it seemed like a dangerous, monstrous beast was hiding, eyeing the three of them hungrily.
Feng Qingran glanced into the darkness and suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
Luo Xuanyu and Su Yanran couldn’t see her, but whatever was lurking in that darkness seemed to be able to see her.
A hint of vigilance flashed in Feng Qingran’s almond-shaped eyes. It seemed this Luo family tomb was not simple at all.
Luo Xuanyu and Su Yanran stood cautiously on the circular platform, neither daring to take a step forward.
Yet, the only path available to them was to go onto the bridge, as the crack behind them had already sealed shut.
“Brother Xuanyu, I’m so scared. This bridge looks like it could collapse at any moment…” Su Yanran’s voice even trembled a little.
Luo Xuanyu, whose legs were also shaking, instantly straightened his back. “Sister Yanran, don’t be afraid. I’ll go first, and you follow behind me. Even if we can’t use spiritual power here, I’ll still protect you!”
“Really?” Su Yanran’s eyes were full of admiration.
Luo Xuanyu confidently patted his chest. “Of course. This place belongs to the Luo family, so there’s absolutely no reason for me to be afraid.”
Standing behind the two, Feng Qingran couldn’t help but roll her eyes. If you’re not afraid, then why are your legs shaking!
Luo Xuanyu had no idea someone was watching from the shadows. He forced himself to step onto the wooden bridge.
But the moment he set foot on it, the bridge started shaking violently. Luo Xuanyu lurched forward and nearly fell off.
He quickly pulled his foot back and steadied himself.
“Sister Yanran, crossing this bridge on foot is too dangerous. We’ll have to crawl across,” Luo Xuanyu said, looking troubled.
“Brother Xuanyu, you’re so brave. Then let’s do it that way,” Su Yanran said, her face full of admiration.
Feeling completely confident again, Luo Xuanyu took out a rope, tying one end to the bridge and the other around his waist.
“Sister Yanran, let me go first. Wait until I’ve made it across before you start.”
“Mm-hmm,” Su Yanran nodded obediently.
Feng Qingran clearly saw the flicker of malicious cruelty in Su Yanran’s eyes.
After Luo Xuanyu started crawling up onto the bridge,
Feng Qingran also floated onto it, but then she felt herself heavily sinking downwards.
She quickly grabbed onto a wooden plank of the bridge. The bridge instantly began to sway violently, as if trying to throw her off.
Feng Qingran glanced down. The endless darkness brought with it an overwhelming sense of terror.
A flicker of doubt crossed her eyes. She had been able to float before, so why couldn’t she float here?
Feng Qingran looked back at Su Yanran. Su Yanran’s gaze was fixed intently on the opposite shore of the bridge, as if she was searching for something.
The other side of the bridge seemed completely shrouded, impossible to see clearly.
What was Su Yanran looking at?
Feng Qingran suddenly felt that perhaps everything was a trap set by Su Yanran.
From the very beginning, when Su Yanran saw the bridge appear, she hadn’t shown the slightest hint of surprise.
While Feng Qingran was hesitating, Luo Xuanyu had already crawled about a third of the way across.
Luo Xuanyu seemed eager to prove himself. He was climbing with great effort, his forehead covered in beads of sweat, his whole body heaving with ragged breaths.
Midway through his climb, he glanced down. His face instantly turned pale, and he rested in place for a long time to recover.
Feng Qingran stood on the bridge again. Even though the wooden bridge was shaking violently, she chose not to crawl.
Instead, she steadied herself and walked forward.
Feng Qingran walked right up to where Luo Xuanyu was, looked down at him, and narrowed her almond-shaped eyes slightly. The book never mentioned anyone named Luo Xuanyu, so he was definitely just a disposable character.
She wondered if he would even make it out of here alive after being used.
Just then, Luo Xuanyu looked up in Feng Qingran’s direction. For a moment, their eyes met, and Feng Qingran could clearly see confusion in his gaze.
Luo Xuanyu threw an object towards the spot where Feng Qingran was standing. The object passed right through her body and fell into the abyss.
It made no sound at all.
Feng Qingran ignored it and continued walking forward, passing Luo Xuanyu.
There was definitely something wrong with this bridge.
By the time Feng Qingran reached the opposite shore, she turned around and saw that Su Yanran had somehow already started walking onto the bridge.
Luo Xuanyu was now completely exhausted and had no energy left to pay attention to Su Yanran.
Feng Qingran’s eyes grew deep and thoughtful. Since Su Yanran wasn’t afraid, why did she pretend to be frightened in the beginning?
Su Yanran quickly reached Luo Xuanyu’s position.
“Sister Yanran?” Luo Xuanyu asked, a little confused.
Su Yanran crouched down, smiled, and said, “Brother Xuanyu, could you do me a favor?”
“Please tell me, Sister Yanran.” Luo Xuanyu felt that something strange was going on, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
Su Yanran took out a porcelain vial and a dagger. “I need to take a little bit of your blood, Brother Xuanyu. I hope you don’t mind?”
Though she sounded like she was asking for permission, she had already extended the dagger.
Ugh! —
Luo Xuanyu grunted in pain, a look of disbelief on his face. “Sister Yanran, why are you…”
Su Yanran placed the porcelain vial against Luo Xuanyu’s wound to collect his blood, completely disregarding his feelings.
After the vial was full, Su Yanran started cutting the rope with her dagger.
“Sister Yanran, what are you doing?” Luo Xuanyu asked, panic creeping into his voice.
“What am I doing? Why, I’m sending Brother Xuanyu to meet the Luo family ancestors, of course. Brother Xuanyu is so filial, surely you wouldn’t refuse, right?” Su Yanran said with a sweet, smiling face.
