The Almighty Martial Arts System - Chapter 323
Since some of the ingredients Jiang Fei bought today were quite troublesome and time-consuming to cook, he didn’t wait for Su Nan to return before starting. Instead, after putting Tongtong down, he began working in the kitchen.
He figured that even if Su Nan was a bit late, she probably wouldn’t be so late that his meal was ready and she still wasn’t back.
Phoenix-tail Shark Fin, Stir-fried Frog Legs, Colorful Beef Steak, Shredded Chicken with White Fungus…
One after another, a series of exquisite dishes, each a work of art with complete color, aroma, and taste, slowly took shape under Jiang Fei’s hands, emitting an alluring fragrance that tantalized the appetite. Tongtong, who had been watching TV in the living room, couldn’t sit still for long. She scurried into the kitchen, blinking her little eyes as she watched Jiang Fei work, her expression utterly adorable. Clearly, the little foodie couldn’t resist and wanted a taste beforehand.
Jiang Fei always had a special soft spot for little girls like this. He didn’t strictly insist she wait until mealtime and specially made her a delicious sweet and sour pickled cucumber snack first to satisfy her cravings.
It took about an hour to finish cooking all the dishes.
By now, it was already 7 PM. The winter sky had long since darkened, but what puzzled Jiang Fei was that Su Nan still hadn’t returned!
Jiang Fei frowned. Logically, Su Nan shouldn’t be this late coming back, leaving Tongtong alone at home.
So he took off his apron and asked, “Tongtong, does Mommy usually come back this late?”
Tongtong was sitting on a stool, her eyes glued to the delicious dishes on the table, which were covered with bowls but whose enticing aromas still wafted out. She was practically drooling. Hearing Jiang Fei’s question, it took her a few seconds to process it before she shook her head and said, “No. Mommy used to come back very early every day and cook for Tongtong.”
“That is strange. Her clinic is closed; it didn’t open today. Why isn’t she back yet? She didn’t even call.” Jiang Fei frowned, took out his phone, and prepared to call Su Nan himself to ask what was going on.
Beep… beep… beep…
The phone rang several times, but no one picked up until it eventually went to a busy signal. Jiang Fei’s frown deepened. He wasn’t angry because Su Nan didn’t answer his call, but he had a sharp intuition that something was wrong!
Ever since learning the Art of Mystical Formations and the Diagram of Heavenly Secrets, none of Jiang Fei’s hunches were ever baseless; most of his premonitions eventually came true.
This time, he suddenly felt that Su Nan had likely encountered some trouble and might be in danger.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t still be out at this hour, and now her phone was unreachable!
He didn’t call a second time. Instead, he quickly put his phone away, turned the little girl—whose full attention was now on the dining table—to face him, and asked with a smile, “Tongtong, did Mommy tell you what she was going out to do today when she left?”
Tongtong reluctantly tore her gaze away from the fragrant dishes and began pondering Jiang Fei’s question. After thinking for a while, she shook her head and said, “No. Mommy said she was going to look at a place today. Her clinic is preparing to move…”
With Jiang Fei here with her, Tongtong naturally didn’t feel uneasy, so she continued in her childish voice.
“Look at a place?” Jiang Fei’s eyes narrowed slightly. Could something have happened while she was viewing the property?
Generally, viewing a property shouldn’t be dangerous. Besides, Su Nan wasn’t looking at a residential apartment but a street-front shop. There was no need to go to some secluded spot; surrounded by people, the likelihood of danger was even lower.
However, Jiang Fei trusted his intuition. He closed his eyes, concentrated, and calculated again, confirming a distinct sense of foreboding related to Su Nan!
He started to feel uneasy, considering whether to use some connections to track down Su Nan’s whereabouts.
Just then, Tongtong pouted absently and added, “When Mommy called me earlier to say she’d be back late, it sounded like she was in a car. I heard someone laughing and saying they had arrived at Midsummer KTV. Uncle Jiang, what’s Midsummer KTV? Is it a place to eat? Hmph! I think Mommy went out to eat good food without taking Tongtong. Good thing you came today, Uncle Jiang.”
As she spoke, Tongtong blinked her adorable big eyes and said with a grin, “Uncle Jiang, how about we eat first? I think Mommy might have already eaten by the time she gets back. Tongtong’s tummy is so hungry now…”
Hearing this, Jiang Fei’s expression froze.
If she were just viewing a street-front shop, nothing should happen. But if she went to a KTV… some less reputable KTVs could be downright dens of vice. For a respectable woman like Su Nan, who didn’t have much experience with that scene and wasn’t a nightlife person, such a place was far too likely to lead to trouble.
This thought aligned almost perfectly with his inner premonition. Jiang Fei could no longer stay seated.
However, he didn’t show it in front of the little girl. Instead, he stood up, uncovered the dishes on the table one by one, and said with a smile, “Tongtong, Mommy will probably be back very late. She didn’t drive either, so how about Uncle Jiang drives out to pick her up? Your little tummy is hungry, right? You eat first at home. After you finish, go watch TV. Uncle Jiang and Mommy will be back soon, okay?”
The little one, being a foodie and noticing nothing amiss, was overjoyed at the prospect of starting her meal and quickly nodded, “Okay! Uncle Jiang, you and Mommy come back quickly.”
“We’ll be back soon. You be good at home, be careful. If someone knocks and you don’t know them, don’t open the door, understand?” Jiang Fei instructed.
“Got it!” Tongtong nodded.
After giving his instructions and making sure the door was locked, Jiang Fei hurriedly drove away from the residential complex.
Jiang Fei had never been to this so-called Midsummer KTV before and naturally had no idea where it was. But with GPS, knowing the name was enough. He considered taking a taxi but worried the drivers might be too slow; driving himself was better.
Midsummer KTV wasn’t too far from Su Nan’s home. Following the GPS directions, Jiang Fei arrived in less than twenty minutes.
But once there, Jiang Fei ran into a problem. While called a KTV, it was actually a large entertainment complex. Judging by the gaudily decorated exterior and the hostesses in cheongsams and black stockings welcoming customers with smiles in the cold night, he estimated the several-story building was entirely comprised of private rooms.
Jiang Fei didn’t know Su Nan’s room number. How was he supposed to find her once inside?
He couldn’t just knock on every door one by one, could he? Searching that slowly would mean if something had happened, it would be too late by the time he found her!
Jiang Fei’s eyelids twitched incessantly, and he felt inexplicably irritable. He knew Su Nan’s situation was probably not optimistic. He quickly took out his phone and tried calling Su Nan again. The call went through, but still no one answered.
Without further hesitation, he stuffed his phone back into his pocket and charged inside.
“Welcome!”
The hostesses at the door greeted him with pleasant smiles.
But Jiang Fei didn’t pause for a moment. His eyes quickly scanned the lobby, taking in the layout, and he headed straight for the front desk.
“Welcome, sir! Are you here to book a room or meet friends?” the front desk attendant asked with a sweet smile.
Though quite anxious inside, Jiang Fei kept a smile on his face. “I’m here to meet a friend. Her name is Su Nan. She booked a room here about an hour and a half ago. Could you tell me which room it is?”
He harbored a sliver of hope. Su Nan was invited to this KTV, but as the one needing a favor, perhaps she was the one treating and paying for the entertainment today!
If that were the case, things would be straightforward. Jiang Fei could go straight up. If Su Nan wasn’t the one paying, then he’d have no choice but to resort to some… alternative methods.
Luck seemed to be on Jiang Fei’s side today. The front desk attendant checked the computer and actually found a result. Looking at the screen, she said, “You’re looking for Ms. Su Nan? She’s on the third floor…”
“Hold on!” Before the attendant could give the room number, a burly, bald man holding a walkie-talkie walked over from the side. He had a fierce, menacing look with a face full of hardened flesh, glaring at Jiang Fei like an angry guardian deity.
“Brother Long…” the front desk attendant started to speak.
The bald man waved his hand, cutting her off, and stared suspiciously at Jiang Fei. “You’re looking for Su Nan?”
Jiang Fei nodded, smiling. “Yes. I’m a friend. She called and asked me to come.”
The bald man sneered, his eyes meaningful yet disdainful. He stated bluntly, “Sorry, we don’t have any customer named Su Nan here tonight. You’ve got the wrong place. Please leave.”
Su Nan? Wasn’t that the busty, curvy, slim-waisted woman in black stockings Boss Guo brought? The one ripe as a peach, that alluring young beauty?
He had just come from that room and knew exactly what was happening inside. How could that young beauty have had a chance to call someone?
Even if this guy really was called by her, he wasn’t getting in tonight!
“Now, that’s not right. This lady just said there’s a guest named Su Nan, on the third floor. How can you say there isn’t?” Jiang Fei replied.
“I said there isn’t, so there isn’t! Stop wasting your breath, kid! If you don’t leave now, do you believe I’ll have someone throw you out?” the bald man snarled viciously.
“It’s been a while since I’ve shown off. And honestly, I haven’t dealt with small-time thugs like you in a long time. Looks like I get the chance today.”
Jiang Fei’s eyes narrowed slightly. He smiled as he walked towards the bald man, one hand reaching out in a seemingly friendly gesture to pat the man’s shoulder. “Brother Long, is it? No need to be so standoffish. Come on, calm down…”
