Super Doctor - Chapter 96
Xu Ze followed the crimson text, reading line by line, until a surge of overwhelming fury and grief welled up in his eyes.
It turned out that after Tao Xiao’s parents took their daughter home, they quickly learned about the horrors she had endured. Furious, they waited until she had recovered somewhat before sending her back to school.
Through careful questioning, they identified the bullies who had tormented their daughter and vowed to seek justice. They immediately took legal action—filing a police report and pressing charges.
However, not long after reporting the crime, the Tao family received threatening phone calls. The caller warned that the accused, Zhang Juntao and his friends, came from influential families—Zhang’s father was a high-ranking city official, his uncles and aunts held positions in the legal system. The message was clear: drop the case, accept financial compensation, or face dire consequences.
But Tao Xiao’s father refused outright. The family continued gathering evidence, determined to pursue justice. Just yesterday, Tao Xiao’s case finally went to trial.
The verdict, however, was devastating. The court ruled against the Taos, citing insufficient evidence, and ordered them to publicly apologize to Zhang Juntao and pay him compensation for “defamation.”
Unwilling to accept this, the family prepared to appeal. But last night, a group of men armed with metal rods stormed their home, smashing furniture and appliances before beating Tao Xiao’s parents. As they left, they spat out a chilling warning: Know your place. If you keep making trouble, don’t blame us for what happens next.
The Taos called the police immediately, but the authorities merely filed a report—and did nothing else.
Then, this afternoon, as Tao Xiao was on her way to school, Zhang Juntao and his gang abducted her in a secluded area. Drugged, she was assaulted again, filmed, and threatened.
After they released her, humiliated and consumed by rage, Tao Xiao went to the police station alone to report the crime—only to be dismissed as “mentally unstable” and turned away.
Reading this, absorbing the despair and fury woven into every word, Xu Ze thought of Tao Xiao—that poor girl, subjected to such cruelty—and felt his blood boil with indignation.
Clenching his jaw, he forced himself to keep reading. At the end of her post, Tao Xiao had left a series of anguished questions:
Where is justice? Where is fairness? I no longer believe this world has any…
Today, I’m exposing everything… I want to see whether this world is truly black or white…
But the final line sent a chill down Xu Ze’s spine.
The last sentence read: If ghosts and gods exist, I pray that after death, I’ll become a vengeful spirit, haunting those beasts day and night—forever.
At this point, Xu Ze realized something was terribly wrong. The sheer despair in that oath told him Tao Xiao had already decided to end her life. Her post wasn’t just an outcry—it was a final, desperate challenge to the world before she took her own stand.
His face paled. He couldn’t let an innocent girl die like this. Ignoring the confused looks from Luozi and Gangzi, he paced frantically before turning to Luozi.
“When was this post made?”
“About ten minutes ago… By now, the whole school’s probably seen it.”
Without another word, Xu Ze bolted from the dorm, sprinting toward the girls’ dormitory. He had no idea which building Tao Xiao lived in, so he dialed Li Yan’s number, hoping she might know.
Li Yan was thrilled to hear from him, but when Xu Ze asked about Tao Xiao’s dorm, she regretfully admitted she didn’t know.
Just as Xu Ze was about to hang up, a panicked scream pierced the air nearby.
His heart lurched. He ended the call and raced toward the sound.
Following the screams, he arrived at a dormitory already surrounded by a crowd. Everyone was staring in horror at the rooftop.
Is it her? Xu Ze’s chest tightened as he pushed forward. There, on the edge of the roof, stood a solitary figure.
At the front of the crowd, several girls were sobbing, shouting up at her:
“Xiao Xiao… come down! Whatever’s wrong, we’ll help you!”
“Xiao Xiao… please… don’t let those monsters win! We’ll keep fighting—just come down!”
“Come back… Xiao Xiao… don’t do this… Tongtong doesn’t want you to die… Tongtong needs you…” One girl broke down completely, burying her face in her hands as she wept.
Xu Ze stared at the lone figure against the sky, a cold dread settling in. He was about to charge into the building when a nearby student’s phone rang. The voice on the other end was clear:
“She’s barricaded the rooftop door with a metal rod—we can’t get through!”
Xu Ze’s heart sank. Tao Xiao had made up her mind. Even if he ran up now, it would be too late.
Desperate, he looked up at the rooftop and called out in his mind: Xiao Dao… Xiao Dao! Help me think of something!
A second of silence. Then Xiao Dao’s voice, uncharacteristically somber:
“There’s nothing you can do, Xu. You can’t save her.”
What about mental connection? Can’t we reach her?
“No. At your current level, your psychic influence only works within a few meters. You can’t reach her from here.”
Xu Ze’s voice turned furious. You’re supposed to be an invincible super-medic system! Why can’t you save her?!
Xiao Dao fell silent. After a few seconds, he replied quietly:
“Because of you. If you were Level 6 or higher, with enough power, we could save her easily. Even at Level 3, we could try. But right now…”
Xu Ze froze. So it’s because I’m too weak…
By now, teachers and school officials had arrived. Fire trucks and ambulances pulled up within minutes.
Firefighters quickly unfurled a rescue airbag while others rushed upstairs with axes.
Gritting his teeth, Xu Ze stared helplessly at the figure on the roof. He was about to shout up to her—to buy the rescuers just a little more time—when a heart-wrenching scream tore through the air:
“WHY… WHY?!”
The crowd below fell into stunned silence. That cry—filled with unbearable sorrow and helpless rage—left many in tears.
The figure on the rooftop lifted her face to the sky, arms trembling as she screamed again and again:
“Why is there no justice in this world?!”
“Why is there no fairness?!”
Under the mournful gazes of the crowd below, the lone girl flailed her arms wildly, her voice growing more desperate:
“WHY?! TELL ME WHY!!”
Listening to those broken, grief-stricken cries, the girls from the medical department—Tao Xiao’s friends—collapsed into each other’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably.
