Super Doctor - Chapter 76
Xu Ze hung from the basketball hoop like a celestial king, looking down at Wu Gang beneath him. The excitement that had flashed across his face during the slam dunk had completely faded, leaving only calm indifference.
Wu Gang stared up at Xu Ze’s composed expression, his eyes flickering with a mix of bewilderment and fear. In all his years playing basketball, he had seen plenty of wild enthusiasm and exhilaration—but never someone who could pull off such an incredible dunk and remain so utterly unfazed, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. At that moment, Wu Gang’s confidence took a devastating blow.
Not far away, Zhang Tianyu’s face was still pale with shock, his usual handsome, self-assured demeanor replaced by stunned disbelief. His mind replayed Xu Ze’s jaw-dropping dunk over and over, his thoughts a frantic whisper: How is this possible? How could he do that?
The memory of Xu Ze leaping from the free-throw line—the sheer speed, the impossible height—left Zhang Tianyu’s eyes hollow. He knew he could never reach that level.
Meanwhile, the stands erupted into chaos. The crowd roared Xu Ze’s name, a tidal wave of sound crashing through the gym. Countless girls, utterly dazzled by his gravity-defying dunk, shrieked as they watched his tall, lean figure swaying from the hoop. In their frenzy, they completely forgot about Zhang Tianyu—their former idol—now standing alone on the court, abandoned.
Once the undisputed king of the school’s basketball scene, Zhang Tianyu could only watch as Xu Ze dangled mid-air like a god, feeling the deafening chants of “Xu Ze! Xu Ze!” drown out what used to be his own name. The adoration he had once commanded had now shifted entirely to Xu Ze. His confidence shattered, leaving only emptiness. Amid the roaring crowd, he stood frozen, cold and isolated.
Up in the stands, Sun Lingfei clapped a hand over her mouth after an involuntary scream, her eyes shining with excitement. “This guy… he’s actually this good? That was so cool!”
Xu Ze let go of the hoop, landing lightly before turning and walking calmly back to his side of the court. He passed Zhang Tianyu, still rooted in place, and took his position, waiting for the Journalism Department’s next attack.
The Medical Department team buzzed with exhilaration, their morale ignited by Xu Ze’s dominance. As they fell into formation, their defense became an impenetrable wall, weighing heavily on the Journalism team’s offense.
The Medical Department had always been solid—disciplined, steady, but lacking a true scoring powerhouse. That weakness had kept them out of the top four for years. But now, with Xu Ze filling that gap, they had transformed into a formidable force.
With Zhang Tianyu completely suppressed and their captain Wu Gang visibly shaken, the Journalism team’s morale crumbled. Xu Ze led the charge, racking up over twenty points before the first quarter ended, widening the gap effortlessly.
The Medical Department played with infectious energy, their players darting across the court like a flock of triumphant roosters. In contrast, the Journalism team floundered. Zhang Tianyu, usually a dominant presence, moved sluggishly, as if he hadn’t eaten in days. Even his occasional bursts of effort were swiftly shut down by Xu Ze, leaving him utterly deflated.
To the spectators, it felt like reality had flipped. The Medical Department now played with the swagger of the former champions, while the Journalism team resembled the weaklings they used to bulldoze. The crowd couldn’t help but sigh—the once-mighty Journalism team was finished. Would they even recover in time for next week’s playoffs? If they failed to make the top four, their season would be over.
As expected, despite a late resurgence in the third and fourth quarters, the Journalism team couldn’t close the gap. The defending champions suffered a humiliating 30-point loss to the Medical Department.
When the final buzzer sounded, the Medical Department players—still in disbelief at their landslide victory—rushed Xu Ze, lifting him into the air and tossing him repeatedly, nearly dizzying the exhausted star.
Meanwhile, the Journalism team slipped away unnoticed, their exit silent amid the celebration. Captain Wu Gang glanced back at the cheering crowd, his eyes full of defeat—but then he straightened and jogged ahead, catching up to Zhang Tianyu. Side by side, they walked off.
Xu Ze barely escaped his teammates’ frenzy, only to find himself trapped in an even bigger swarm—fans from the Medical Department, especially the girls, swarmed him, seizing the chance to grope and fawn. Leading the charge was Li Yan, who not only pinched and poked him but also planted two loud kisses on his left cheek.
Her boldness sparked a frenzy. More girls surged forward, sending Xu Ze scrambling in panic—but not fast enough to avoid several more lipstick marks on his face.
The madness on the court soon drew in even more girls from the stands, turning the scene into pure chaos.
From her secluded corner, Sun Lingfei watched with a scowl, her cheeks flushed with irritation. “These fangirls… That guy is my boyfriend!”
Then she caught herself, blushing. Wait, no—he’s just a stand-in. He doesn’t actually count…
Sighing, she turned to leave, but not before shooting one last glare at Xu Ze, now drowning in a sea of admirers. A spark of resentment flared. “You show-off! Why do you have to be so cool? Just like that flirt Zhang Tianyu, attracting all these girls. Ugh!”
Poor Xu Ze, completely unaware that he’d just been branded a “show-off”, fought desperately through the mob. Only with the belated help of his teammates did he finally break free and escape.
