Super Doctor - Chapter 65
Xu Ze was dozing off on the recliner in the injection room when someone roughly shoved him awake. Frowning, he grumbled inwardly, Who the hell is this annoying person?
Before he could even open his eyes, the overpowering scent of cologne hit his nose. Disgusted, he exhaled sharply and finally looked up to see Zhao Qilong’s scowling face.
“What do you want?” Xu Ze asked flatly.
“What do I want?” Zhao Qilong’s voice was low but seething. “Xu Ze, what the hell is wrong with you? Why did you mess with my prescription?”
Xu Ze furrowed his brows in confusion. “What prescription? I didn’t change anything—I was asleep!”
“Then explain this!” Zhao Qilong thrust a prescription slip at him, his expression icy.
After scanning the paper, Xu Ze frowned and looked up. “Did the patient’s condition worsen?”
“That’s not the point!” Zhao Qilong’s eyes burned with anger. “Who gave you the right to alter my prescription?!”
Suppressing his irritation at the suffocating cologne, Xu Ze arched his delicate brows and replied coolly, “Whether I had the right or not, the prescription was signed by Dr. Zhang. As long as he approved it, the medication is valid.”
“You—” Zhao Qilong choked on his words. Dr. Zhang was the clinic’s authority—both as a deputy chief physician and the person in charge. His signature overruled everything.
Zhao Qilong’s face darkened. “I’m not asking about Dr. Zhang’s approval. I’m asking why you changed it!”
“Because your diagnosis was off. The medication wasn’t appropriate.” Xu Ze met his furious gaze without flinching.
“What?!” Zhao Qilong’s voice rose before he remembered the nearby patients and forced it back down. “You’re saying I misdiagnosed? On what grounds? You claimed it was a parasitic infection—are you out of your mind? Since when does a parasite cause a 39.5°C fever? What kind of quack taught you?!”
Xu Ze remained unfazed. “Did you change the prescription back?”
“Of course I did! What kind of useless antibiotics were you prescribing?” Zhao Qilong sneered. “Listen here, you little intern—if you ever mess with my patients’ meds again, I’ll make sure you’re kicked out, Dr. Zhang’s favor or not.”
Xu Ze’s lips curled into a faint, mocking smile as he stood. “Suit yourself. But if the fever returns tomorrow, I suggest you switch back to my treatment.”
With that, he stretched lazily and walked back to the consultation room, leaving Zhao Qilong fuming behind him.
…
At around 5 p.m., Miss Sun called to confirm Xu Ze was ready for their “meeting.” Satisfied, she promised to update him with the time and location later.
After hanging up, Xu Ze returned to the clinic just in time to see Zhao Qilong preening in front of a mirror, slicking back his hair before asking Dr. Zhang for leave. With a rev of his Honda’s engine, he sped off, his face stormy.
Watching him leave like a man on a warpath, Xu Ze felt a twinge of unease. What’s got him so riled up today? Someone’s in for trouble.
His phone rang again—Miss Sun’s number. Resigned, he answered.
“Come out. I’m waiting,” her voice commanded.
Well, no escaping now. Xu Ze sighed, bid Dr. Zhang goodbye, and stepped outside.
He scanned the area but saw no sign of her—until a cream-colored sports car honked twice. Sun Lingfei poked her head out and waved. “Over here! Hurry up.”
Recognizing the BMW emblem, Xu Ze chuckled. So the Sun family really is loaded.
He slid into the passenger seat. Sun Lingfei eyed his outfit—the same jeans and printed white T-shirt from last time—and nodded approvingly. With his slightly tousled hair, handsome face, and laid-back aura, he looked every bit the campus heartthrob. Perfect. That clingy pest will definitely feel inferior.
Noticing her smug expression, Xu Ze sighed. “So, where are we going? Try not to make it too flashy, or people might think I’m your sugar baby.”
Sun Lingfei burst out laughing, her bright eyes crinkling. “Relax, no one would ever think that.”
“Oh? Why not?” He plucked at his T-shirt. “I’m wearing maybe 400 yuan head-to-toe. If I waltz into the Hilton with you in a BMW, ‘sugar baby’ will be the polite assumption.”
She smirked. “What, you want to be a kept man?”
Xu Ze rubbed his forehead. “Lately, my skin’s gotten paler for some reason, and people keep calling me a pretty boy behind my back. Now you’ve roped me into being your fake boyfriend—I’m starting to wonder if I do have potential as a trophy husband.”
Grinning, he added, “Since you’ve already claimed me, why not just sponsor me? Save me the trouble of working part-time at the clinic.”
Sun Lingfei blinked, then laughed. “Sure! I may not be filthy rich, but I can afford you. Consider it done—from now on, you’re living the high life with big sis.”
