Super Doctor - Chapter 43
“Come to my place… come to my place…”
Sun Lingfei’s words left countless hearts shattered…
But to Xu Ze’s ears, they weren’t all that surprising. He simply tilted his head curiously and asked, “What are we going to your place for now? If you want to get an IV drip at home, it’s still too early. It’d be better to go later.”
“……”
Sun Lingfei was momentarily speechless. Staring at Xu Ze’s utterly innocent expression, she cursed inwardly—this guy looks smart, so why is he so clueless? With a sigh, she finally said, “It’s past eleven already. You’re coming to my place to cook. The food you made yesterday was delicious, and I don’t feel like eating at the cafeteria today.”
“……”
Half an hour later, Xu Ze and Sun Lingfei were at the Carrefour near campus. Pushing a shopping cart, Xu Ze dutifully trailed behind the young miss, who was leading the way.
“How about tomato and egg stir-fry?” Sun Lingfei held up a bright red tomato, turning to him with a smile. Her charming eyes gleamed with anticipation.
“Sure.” Xu Ze nodded without hesitation, though inwardly he couldn’t help but sigh—why do girls always love dishes like this?
Fortunately, Sun Lingfei was considerate enough. She picked up half a pound of lean pork and a pack of green peppers, tossing them into the cart. Xu Ze felt slightly comforted.
After wandering around the produce section, Sun Lingfei eyed the meager selection in their cart and frowned. This definitely isn’t enough for two meals.
Her gaze swept the area before landing on Xu Ze. Suddenly, as if struck by inspiration, she brightened. “Oh! Xu Ze, what other dishes are you good at?”
At her question, Xu Ze furrowed his brows slightly, scanning the surroundings. Then he walked over, picked up two mushrooms, circled back for a carton of eggs, and dropped them into the cart. “Alright, that’s enough!” he said with a chuckle.
As they left the produce section, Sun Lingfei headed straight for the snacks aisle. Xu Ze could only smile wryly. Though Sun Lingfei wasn’t as fussy as other girls, in some ways, she wasn’t so different—she had a sweet tooth just like the rest of them.
Resigned, he continued pushing the cart behind her. Accompanying a girl through a supermarket required the same mental preparation as accompanying her on a shopping trip.
Little by little, the cart filled up. But Xu Ze didn’t mind. Escorting a beauty through the store wasn’t such a bad job—at the very least, it was easy on the eyes.
Watching Sun Lingfei’s slender, graceful figure ahead of him, along with the effortless charm she exuded, Xu Ze nodded to himself. The title of Xing University’s top campus belle wasn’t just for show. She really is a sight to behold.
But the more beautiful a woman was, the more trouble she brought. Sun Lingfei had managed to remain single for two years despite countless suitors—that alone spoke volumes.
“Even Zhang Linyun… probably pales in comparison.” A certain figure flashed through Xu Ze’s mind, and he sighed softly.
“You don’t seem happy about shopping with me?” Sun Lingfei turned to him, her expression curious. This guy was becoming more and more intriguing. Any other boy would be over the moon to accompany her grocery shopping—only Xu Ze would wear that grumpy look. Did she really have no appeal to him at all?
The thought made her pout. For the first time in front of a guy, she felt a twinge of disappointment.
Seeing Sun Lingfei’s bright smile fade into a sulky pout, Xu Ze’s chest tightened. He forced a dry chuckle. “Not at all! It’s an honor to accompany Xing University’s most beautiful girl on a grocery run!”
“Really?” Sun Lingfei eyed him skeptically, then smirked. “Lie to me, and you’re a puppy.”
“Uh…” Xu Ze stiffened slightly, about to reply—when his gaze suddenly froze. A flash of pain flickered in his eyes.
Startled by his expression, Sun Lingfei followed his line of sight.
Behind her, a couple walked arm in arm, heading their way.
They looked familiar. Sun Lingfei frowned, trying to place them—then turned back to Xu Ze. The pain and sorrow in his eyes triggered a memory: the first time she’d ever seen him.
“It’s them…” Disgust flashed across her face, followed by concern as she glanced back at Xu Ze.
His handsome features had turned ashen. His grip on the cart was so tight his knuckles were turning white.
Seeing his anguish, Sun Lingfei felt an inexplicable pang in her chest. She didn’t know why, but she sensed that right now—Xu Ze needed support.
Almost unconsciously, she stepped closer and placed her hand over his. Giving it a light squeeze, she met his eyes with silent encouragement.
Xu Ze shuddered slightly at her touch. The warmth from her slender fingers seeped into his skin, soothing the ache in his chest. He lifted his gaze to hers—her delicate, radiant face filled with quiet concern—and felt the tension slowly ebb away.
He nodded in gratitude, the color gradually returning to his face. With a slow exhale, he released the bitterness lodged in his heart.
“It’s been a month… and I still haven’t let go.” Biting his lower lip, he watched the approaching couple and forced a wry smile. He couldn’t afford to lose composure like that again.
Relieved to see him recover, Sun Lingfei smiled back—unaware that, without realizing it, she’d begun to care for this boy more than others.
With Xu Ze steadied, she turned and continued walking beside him.
Meanwhile, Zhang Linyun—who had been strolling ahead with her boyfriend—stopped short at the sight of the pair. Her eyes widened in shock as they landed on Xu Ze, his expression calm and eyes gentle as ever. A flicker of guilt crossed her face, and she instinctively lowered her gaze.
But then it hit her—why should she feel guilty? Love wasn’t about debts or blame. She and Xu Ze simply hadn’t been right for each other. Besides, he was here with another girl. Had he already moved on?
“Hmph… I was the one who approached him first. Let’s see what kind of girl a lazy guy like him can actually land.” Resentment bubbled up inside her. Forcing a stiff smile, she lifted her chin and studied the girl beside Xu Ze.
Then her breath caught.
“S-Sun Lingfei? Why is Sun Lingfei with Xu Ze?”
