Super Doctor - Chapter 35
Sun Lingfei frowned, thinking hard as she looked at the guy sleeping soundly beside her. He had a straight nose and handsome eyebrows, but she couldn’t quite place him. She muttered softly to herself, “Who on earth is this guy?”
Just as she was puzzling over it, a series of beep beep beep sounds rang out. The guy suddenly opened his eyes, sat up quickly, and turned to look at her.
“Oh… you’re awake?” Seeing the faint smile on the rather good-looking guy’s face, Sun Lingfei suddenly recalled a certain scene and a certain person from a while back. Back then, the guy had looked utterly miserable, quite different from his current expression. But it had to be him—Xu Ze? Yes, it was Xu Ze, right?
Sun Lingfei scrutinized Xu Ze carefully, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes. Hmm… he looks a bit different from last time… somehow more handsome now.
Seeing Sun Lingfei’s expression, Xu Ze was momentarily taken aback, feeling a slight pang of disappointment. After all, it was a bit of a blow to realize that such a stunning beauty didn’t seem to remember him. But he didn’t dwell on it too much. He figured he’d repaid her kindness today, and that would settle the matter in his mind.
However, things took an unexpected turn. After a brief pause, Sun Lingfei suddenly smiled and said, “Xu Ze? Is that you?”
“You remember me?” Xu Ze was surprised but felt much better. He smiled.
Sun Lingfei blinked, her pretty eyebrows arching slightly as she gave a tired smile. “You seem a bit different from last time. At first, I didn’t recognize you, but now I do.”
“Thanks for what you did last time,” Xu Ze nodded, smiling.
“No problem. I just didn’t like how Tao Zhixiong and the others were ganging up on you,” Sun Lingfei said, observing Xu Ze’s calm expression with some surprise. It seemed like the incident hadn’t affected him much, which was unexpected.
She quickly brushed aside her surprise and, with some effort, propped herself up with her right hand to sit more upright. Curiously, she asked, “Why are you here? Did you stay with me all night?”
Hearing her question, Xu Ze’s face turned slightly red. After all, last night he’d had no choice but to touch her chest and hips. He quickly replied, “I work here. When you came in, I was the only one left, so I had to take care of you.”
“You work here?” Sun Lingfei was stunned. It took her a moment to process this before she looked at Xu Ze and asked, “Aren’t you only a year ahead of me? How are you already working?”
“Oh… are you doing a part-time job here?” Sun Lingfei raised her eyebrows, quickly piecing things together. She was puzzled, though. Xu Ze was from the clinical medicine school, but he was only a junior. How could he already be working as a doctor? Was he here to give injections, see patients, or… just clean?
After some thought, she concluded that Xu Ze was probably an apprentice. She looked at him with admiration and said, “You’re really impressive. Only a junior and already working part-time at a clinic.”
Seeing that Sun Lingfei didn’t bring up the injections, Xu Ze breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. “Yeah, I’m used to helping out at home, so I managed to get a job here to make ends meet.”
“Oh…” Sun Lingfei glanced around and realized the clinic was indeed empty except for the two of them. Recalling Xu Ze’s earlier words, she felt a slight ache in her left hip. She touched her pants, her gaze drifting before suddenly fixing on Xu Ze. She frowned slightly and asked, “You said I was the only one here when I came in yesterday?”
“Uh… yeah, everyone else had already left. I was just cleaning up when you arrived,” Xu Ze replied honestly, though his heart skipped a beat as he noticed her stern expression.
Hearing this, Sun Lingfei’s eyes widened. “So… did you prescribe the medicine and give me the injection?”
“Here it comes,” Xu Ze thought, wiping a mental sweat. Remembering how fierce Sun Lingfei had been that day, he forced a dry smile. “Yes… you fainted when you came in, and I was the only one here, so I had to prescribe the medicine and give you the injection.”
Hearing Xu Ze’s confirmation, Sun Lingfei’s cheeks flushed. She felt a twinge in her hip where she’d been injected, and her pants felt a bit loose. Did this guy do anything else to me?
Her eyes flickered as she looked at Xu Ze, about to say something but then hesitating. After a moment of thought, she decided to trust him, seeing the clarity and calmness in his eyes. She smiled softly and said, “Well, thank you for taking care of me.”
“No problem. You helped me last time, so consider this me repaying the favor,” Xu Ze said with a light smile. Then he added, “How are you feeling now? Any better?”
Sun Lingfei touched her forehead and nodded slowly, a hint of gratitude in her eyes. “Much better. The medicine you prescribed worked well. I’m just feeling a bit weak now, but the dizziness is gone.”
“That’s good. You’ll need two more IVs, and then you should be fine,” Xu Ze said with a nod.
“Two more IVs?” Sun Lingfei frowned, looking at Xu Ze. “Why does it take so long?”
Xu Ze smiled gently. “You had a fever of over 39 degrees yesterday. It’s under control now, but it’ll take a few days to fully recover.”
“Oh… I see.” Sun Lingfei looked at Xu Ze’s confident and calm smile, feeling an inexplicable sense of trust. She nodded in agreement.
Having clarified her condition, Sun Lingfei relaxed and leaned back on the recliner. She suddenly felt thirsty and licked her lips, turning to Xu Ze. “Is there any water here?”
“Yes… yes…” Xu Ze, noticing her slightly tempting expression, felt his own mouth go dry. Uh… I should drink some water too…
He quickly got up, poured two glasses of water from the dispenser, and handed one to Sun Lingfei. As he passed her the glass, their hands brushed slightly, sending a jolt through both of them. Sun Lingfei quickly took the glass.
Xu Ze gulped down a few mouthfuls of water to calm the sudden heat rising in him. She’s definitely a femme fatale. Good thing she was unconscious earlier. If she’d been as tempting as she is now when I was taking her temperature, I might’ve made a mistake.
Sun Lingfei took a few sips of water with her uninjured right hand, then lay back on the recliner, pulling the blanket tighter. She turned to Xu Ze with an apologetic smile. “I’m really sorry for troubling you today. You probably didn’t get much sleep. I’ll call you when the IV runs out.”
Xu Ze glanced at the IV bottle, which was almost empty. It would need changing in about twenty or thirty minutes. He smiled and said, “It’s fine. I’m not sleepy. We’ll just need to switch to a smaller bottle soon.”
Hearing this, Sun Lingfei looked up at the IV bottle and nodded. “Oh… okay. Thanks again…”
