Super Doctor - Chapter 181
As the checkered flag suddenly fell, the two sports cars shot forward like arrows loosed from their bows, roaring engines leaving behind faint trails of black smoke that slowly dissipated in the night breeze.
Seeing the lead cars launch ahead, the other sports cars behind revved their engines excitedly, surging forward one after another. They followed Zhang Libao and Xu Ze’s cars, all heading towards Western Hills.
Xu Ze pressed the accelerator firmly, swiftly navigating a small curve along the roadside guardrail. He was still running parallel to Zhang Libao, neither gaining an advantage.
Zhang Libao didn’t let up on the accelerator at all. He just glanced coldly to his right at Xu Ze, then stomped down hard on the pedal once more.
The Ferrari let out another fierce roar, violently surging ahead and instantly overtaking the Aston Martin by half a car length, with signs of pulling further ahead.
A faint, mocking smile touched Xu Ze’s lips. If he weren’t so familiar with the Aston Martin’s capabilities, he might not have dared to compete so recklessly with Zhang Libao. But for him, the truth was, the car he knew best wasn’t his own Maserati, but this Aston Martin.
He had spent the most time with this car in the virtual space, and it was also the car he used to cope with Little Scorpion’s crazy training drills. So, he knew its performance inside out.
As for his own Maserati, he cherished it far too much to ever push it past 220 km/h. That’s why he wasn’t the least bit worried about Zhang Libao’s provocative.
Applying a bit more pressure with his foot, the Aston Martin responded with a deep, throaty roar, accelerating forward without backing down. It instantly caught up to the Ferrari and even overtook it by half a body length.
Beside Xu Ze, Sun Lingfei tightly gripped the seatbelt across her chest. Her pretty face showed a trace of anxiety, but not outright fear. Her eyes, however, flickered with intense curiosity as she kept glancing at Xu Ze’s handsome, calm profile and his subtly upturned lips, which held a hint of a confident smile.
She realized she truly didn’t know Xu Ze at all. Perhaps she understood his personality, but everything else about him seemed shrouded in mystery…
Before, he was just a simple part-time doctor at a clinic… going to work, attending classes, seemingly detached from everything else…
But now, he had suddenly become entangled in the circle she moved in. From Old Master Tang, to Li Yue, and now to Zhang Libao and the others… all these prominent figures from the upper echelons had crossed paths with Xu Ze…
And yet, he hadn’t changed in the slightest because of anyone. He remained just as composed and self-assured, only now he was radiating a startling brilliance. It seemed he excelled in every aspect.
From medical skills to music, and now this kind of racing technique – everything about him seemed to shine so brightly.
Noticing Sun Lingfei’s curious gaze, Xu Ze turned his head. He freed one hand and gently stroked her cheek, a warm smile spreading across his face. “Are you scared?” he asked softly.
“No…” Meeting his warm gaze, a soft smile appeared on Sun Lingfei’s beautiful face. She shook her head gently, not wanting to add any pressure to him.
“Alright… hold on tight… there’s a curve ahead…” Xu Ze chuckled lightly, then turned his attention back to the road.
In his mind, a clear map had materialized. A red and a green dot were rapidly approaching a curve on the map.
Xu Ze glanced at the Ferrari running alongside him, then at Zhang Libao inside the other car, a faint smile playing on his lips.
This stretch was mostly straight roads. With the Aston Martin not holding a performance advantage, superior skill couldn’t really show itself here.
The curves were where their true skills would be tested, and where the gap between them would truly widen…
Zhang Libao also chose that moment to turn his head, a cold smirk on his face as he looked towards Xu Ze. Their eyes met, sparks seeming to fly. Both knew the real contest was about to begin…
Zhang Libao had initially underestimated Xu Ze, but seeing him keep pace for so long, not even falling behind by a car length, he now began to take Xu Ze seriously.
Still, he wasn’t overly concerned. He knew this road like the back of his hand, having overtaken countless opponents on it.
‘There are three curves left before Western Hills, and this one is the most critical… Gaining the lead here, barring any mishaps, should secure the win, as the last two curves aren’t major issues,’ Zhang Libao calculated inwardly, a trickle of smugness rising. He had the inside line for this curve – a definite advantage he was sure to capitalize on…
“Vroom… vroom… vroom… vroom…” As the approaching curve came into view, both cars’ engines growled deeply several times. Then, as if by tacit agreement, both vehicles shot forward simultaneously towards the bend!
Zhang Libao’s Ferrari charged ahead fiercely, utilizing the advantage of the inside line to enter the curve just before the Aston Martin!
The curve was upon them…
Both the Ferrari and the Aston Martin braked simultaneously, their bright red brake lights painting straight lines in the darkness. After braking, Xu Ze immediately applied half-throttle!
In the passenger seat, Sun Lingfei instantly tightened her grip on the seatbelt. Her previously calm expression flashed with a trace of shock, and she let out a low gasp.
Sun Lingfei was never a timid person, but she had never participated in the street racing popular among the young people in Beijing’s social circles. Facing such high-speed, sudden braking was enough to make anyone pale slightly.
But Xu Ze had no attention to spare for comforting Sun Lingfei. He continued with the half-throttle, steering sharply through the semi-hairpin curve…
“Inertia drift!” A seamless drift through the short curve.
Seeing that he had the inside line and had navigated the curve, yet the Aston Martin was still glued to his side, not falling behind at all, Zhang Libao was greatly shocked!
What shocked him wasn’t just Xu Ze’s precise familiarity with the curve’s position, but that he dared execute an inertia drift on such a tight curve! And he had managed to stick right with him, not losing any ground.
‘Damn… this guy, how does he know this curve so well? How dare he pull an inertia drift on a small curve like this…’ Zhang Libao cursed under his breath. He could perform inertia drifts too, but on a small curve like this, especially from the outside line, he wouldn’t dare attempt one lightly…
In the blink of an eye, the Ferrari and Aston Martin, locked in their stalemate, covered most of the distance to Western Hills, entering the final stretch.
By now, Zhang Libao’s face had turned grim. Failing to gain an advantage on the first critical curve, combined with Xu Ze displaying such formidable driving skills, had started to make Zhang Libao nervous.
He was losing his edge. Remembering Xu Ze’s drifting technique, Zhang Libao no longer felt the confidence he had initially. While he was confident in his own skills, he had to admit that Xu Ze’s level of drifting was something he couldn’t match.
Faced with this, he no longer felt any certainty about winning…
Sure enough, Xu Ze didn’t give him another chance. On the second curve, with another crisp, clean drift, Xu Ze successfully pulled ahead of the Ferrari by two car lengths, then sped off into the distance.
Watching the lagging Ferrari in the rearview mirror, Sun Lingfei – whose face had paled slightly from the series of drifts – couldn’t help but show a trace of excitement. She turned to Xu Ze, her voice filled with surprised delight, “Xu Ze… I had no idea you were such an amazing driver…”
“Heh… just having some fun,” Xu Ze replied with a light laugh. Compared to Little Scorpion’s terrifying training sessions in the virtual space, this really was just playing around for him.
The Aston Martin didn’t slow down in the slightest, racing straight ahead. Little Scorpion had already informed him there was one more curve ahead. After that curve, they would reach the large billboard at Western Hills.
Zhang Libao, now several car lengths behind Xu Ze, wore a completely gloomy expression. The heavily made-up girl beside him, seeing the Aston Martin firmly in the lead and Zhang Libao’s dark mood, had lost all her earlier excitement. She had never seen Zhang Libao lose on this road before, and the current situation looked bleak. She wisely didn’t dare provoke his foul mood any further.
Zhang Libao’s face was stormy, but a fanatical glint shone in his eyes. It had been a long time since he’d encountered an opponent on this road who could frustrate him so much.
‘I can’t lose… I absolutely cannot lose to this country bumpkin…’ Zhang Libao snorted coldly and slammed the accelerator again, chasing after Xu Ze. There was still one curve left. If he could gain the advantage there, winning wasn’t out of the question…
The Ferrari roared violently as it pursued the Aston Martin. Within seconds, it closed the distance, trailing by only half a car length.
Looking at the figure in the car ahead through the windshield, a cold, hard light flashed in Zhang Libao’s eyes. “I will definitely not lose to you…”
Half a minute later, the final curve appeared before the two speeding sports cars. Zhang Libao stomped on the accelerator once more, surging towards the left side – he had to seize this last opportunity.
Seeing Zhang Libao squeezing up from behind, Xu Ze let out a soft snort, pressed the accelerator to the floor, and turned the steering wheel sharply. The car swiftly slid into the curve.
Seeing the Aston Martin still leading him by half a car length, Zhang Libao gritted his teeth, let out a grunt, and also turned his steering wheel, continuing to charge towards the inside. He just needed to hold on for these two seconds, overtake Xu Ze, and he would win.
However, the space on the inside line was simply too narrow. Zhang Libao’s forced attempt didn’t bring him victory. Instead, to his horror and the screams of the girl beside him, the left front of his car scraped against the guardrail. Amidst the screeching sound of tearing metal, the Ferrari swerved violently, spinning several times on the spot before its rear end slammed hard into the mountain wall on the opposite side. It then rebounded violently, spun around a few more times in a disastrous manner, and finally came to a stop in the middle of the road, sparks flying.
The dozen or so sports cars following close behind all screeched to a halt with piercing sounds of tires, smoke rising from their rubber, stopping short of the crashed Ferrari.
