Super Doctor - Chapter 169
Realizing he could actually sing, Xu Ze relaxed. Sipping on beer, he joined Li Qifeng and the others for a few rounds of classic bromance anthems.
Knowing Xu Ze could hold his liquor, Li Qifeng and the guys egged the girls on to toast him. Unable to refuse, Xu Ze clinked glasses with each of them, downing his drink. Fortunately, his alcohol tolerance was impressive now. A few more bottles of beer didn’t faze him at all.
As more bottles were emptied, the atmosphere grew increasingly lively, and everyone drank more and more…
By a little past eleven, Zhao Linlin stepped out to take a phone call. Seeing how late it was getting, the group decided to call it a night. Li Qifeng went out first to settle the bill.
While waiting for Li Qifeng and Zhao Linlin to return, the rest decided to kill time by singing a couple more songs.
Xu Ze had just picked up the microphone and started singing when his phone rang. Glancing at the screen, he saw an unfamiliar number. Setting the mic aside, he walked to the doorway to answer.
He barely got a “Hello?” out before a cacophony of noisy shouts and curses erupted from the other end, followed by Zhao Linlin’s anxious, frantic voice: “Xu Ze… come quick, to the main hall bar… something’s happened…”
Startled, Xu Ze hung up, turned back inside, and shouted, “I think Qifeng’s in trouble. Let’s go check it out…”
Alarmed, everyone immediately put down their microphones and rushed out after Xu Ze.
Xu Ze hurried into the main hall with a slight frown, hearing someone yell, “You blind or something, punk? Do you even know who I am? How dare you stick your nose in my business?”
Then, someone else tried to placate them: “Young Master Xin… Young Master Xin, please don’t be angry… This brother here had too much to drink, he didn’t recognize you… Please, don’t take it to heart…”
“Drunk? He dares slap me because he’s drunk? Who the hell in Xing City has the nerve to slap me?” This ‘Young Master Xin’ seemed pretty drunk himself, shouting loudly…
“Exactly… How dare he hit our Young Master Xin? If we don’t take one of his arms today, how can we keep our faces in Xing City?” someone else angrily chimed in.
Hearing this, Xu Ze frowned, worried that Li Qifeng might have gotten the worst of it.
He quickly strode over, pushed through the crowd, and saw Li Qifeng standing behind two security guards, pale-faced and clearly terrified…
The two guards were smiling apologetically, shielding Li Qifeng as they tried to reason with the group opposite.
But the other side wasn’t having it. They kept shoving the guards, trying to get at Li Qifeng.
“You getting out of the way or not? I’m telling you… if you don’t move, you can forget about working in Xing City starting tomorrow…” Young Master Xin pointed at the guards’ noses, berating them angrily.
The two guards, threatened like this, looked torn and fearful. They exchanged a glance, sighed, and stepped aside. This Young Master Xin wasn’t someone ordinary people could afford to cross. If they really got in his way today, they probably wouldn’t be able to keep their jobs in Xing City.
Seeing the guards move, Young Master Xin snorted triumphantly, stepped forward, and raised his hand to slap Li Qifeng, making Zhao Linlin scream in fright.
But before his hand could connect, someone grabbed his wrist and shoved him back.
Pushed back by a strong force, Young Master Xin stumbled several steps before his companions steadied him. Once stable, he roared in humiliated fury, “Who the hell dares push me?!”
His crew, also enraged, surged forward angrily toward the person now standing in the middle—Xu Ze.
But after taking a few steps forward, Young Master Xin got a clear look at who had pushed him. He froze, his eyes widening with extreme fear, and he stumbled back two steps…
Xu Ze, shielding Li Qifeng, also got a good look at Young Master Xin’s face just then. He found it familiar and was about to speak when the young master across from him, staring at Xu Ze, turned pale. He hurriedly nodded, stammering, “Y-Young Master Xu…”
His crew, initially furious and ready to defend their leader’s honor, suddenly wilted upon seeing Young Master Xin’s terrified, deferential attitude toward the newcomer. A chill ran down their spines, and they promptly shut up.
“Young Master Xu?” Xu Ze raised an eyebrow. This was the first time he’d ever been addressed like that. But only a certain type of person would call him that…
The thought triggered recognition. He couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. “Xin Bao?”
Seeing the slight, cold smile on Xu Ze’s face, Xin Bao’s heart skipped a beat. He hurriedly said, “Young Master Xu… I didn’t know he was your friend… Today was a misunderstanding… a complete misunderstanding…”
“Misunderstanding?” Xu Ze raised an eyebrow, then turned to Li Qifeng. “Qifeng? Did they hurt you?”
With Xu Ze shielding him, Li Qifeng’s color returned somewhat. He shook his head repeatedly. “No, no, I’m fine…”
“Good that you’re unharmed…” Xu Ze nodded, then looked at Xin Bao and said calmly, “Alright, it’s late. Since it’s a misunderstanding… let’s just forget it.”
Hearing Xu Ze was letting it go, Xin Bao breathed a slight sigh of relief. He quickly nodded. “Okay… okay… Young Master Xu, my apologies for today… I’ll make it up to you another day…”
With that, he turned and hurried away. His lackeys, seeing their leader flee, tucked their tails between their legs and scurried after him. If even Young Master Xin was this scared of him, then to this person, they were probably less than ants…
Watching Young Master Xin slink away, the two security guards also sighed in relief. They looked at Xu Ze with curiosity. They knew who Young Master Xin was. Yet, in front of this person, he was scared like a little mouse. Just who was this guy?
As Young Master Xin left, the surrounding crowd gradually dispersed. But many who recognized Xin Bao were still whispering in surprise, speculating about Xu Ze’s identity.
With the crowd gone, Tang Yijun, Jiang Zhibo, and the others finally managed to come over with the three girls.
Xu Ze turned to Li Qifeng with concern. “What happened? How did you end up crossing that guy?”
Zhao Linlin quickly explained from the side, “That Young Master Xin was harassing me earlier. Then Li Qifeng happened to come over and… he slapped Young Master Xin… But who knew they had so many people with them…”
“Huh…” Hearing that Li Qifeng had actually slapped Xin Bao, Xu Ze laughed. “Good thing you weren’t hurt… That guy had it coming. I beat him up pretty badly once before. Seems he’s scared of me now…”
“Ah…” Everyone was stunned. Now they understood why Young Master Xin had acted like a mouse seeing a cat upon encountering Xu Ze. But Li Qifeng and the others grew even more curious about Xu Ze’s background. That initially arrogant young master had called him ‘Young Master Xu’… Could it be that Xu Ze was also some sort of Xing City princeling?
While they were puzzling over this, the lackeys following Xin Bao were also muttering among themselves. Finally, one couldn’t resist asking Xin Bao, “Young Master Xin… who was that guy? How could even you…”
Xin Bao snorted coldly, his voice grim. “That guy… don’t provoke him. He’s not someone you can mess with…”
“He’s the one who drove Zhang Juntao insane. And just the other day, Junhai hired some underworld hitmen to ambush him. I was in the car watching…result… he took down all three hitmen by himself. And he was merciless…”
Remembering what he saw that day—the hitmen having their arms and legs broken by Xu Ze—Xin Bao felt a chill in his heart…
“Ah… he’s that… Xu Ze?” The lackeys had naturally heard about this. They exclaimed in shock.
“Right… it’s him. I heard those three hitmen are getting the death penalty this time. And Junhai’s father, Deputy Mayor Zhang, personally went to apologize before he could secure Junhai’s safety…”
“Ah… so Young Master Jun’s trip to Canada was also because of him?” Now they were truly terrified. Even Young Master Jun had been taken down. This Xu Ze was definitely not to be provoked.
—
The incident had sobered Li Qifeng and the others up quite a bit. As the group walked downstairs, Xu Ze looked at them and asked, “You didn’t drive here, right?”
“No… we specifically planned to drink today, so no one drove,” everyone shook their heads. “We’ll just take taxis back…”
“I drove, though…” Xu Ze frowned. “But how to give everyone a ride?”
“You drove?” Tang Yijun was surprised, but seeing Xu Ze seemed completely fine, he nodded understandingly and smiled. “That’s good, then. You can take the ladies back… We guys will grab a taxi.”
Li Qifeng and Jiang Zhibo nodded in agreement from behind, laughing, “Exactly. This way, the ladies can’t accuse us of being ungentlemanly.”
Seeing everyone was in agreement, Xu Ze could only nod. He turned to Zhao Linlin and the others with a smile. “Then I’ll go get the car… wait here just a moment!”
Hearing Xu Ze would drive them, the girls were naturally delighted… They nodded repeatedly.
Soon, Xu Ze’s Maserati drove out from the underground garage and stopped in front of the group.
At the sight of the car, everyone except Zhao Linlin gasped in surprise. Li Qifeng and the others, though they worked in the same department as Xu Ze, had never seen his car. Staring at this luxurious sports car, they were dumbstruck. Remembering how Young Master Xin had called him ‘Young Master Xu,’ they secretly thought, “Xu Ze’s family background must really be something…”
The girls, however, didn’t overthink it. They happily piled into the car…
“Be careful on your way back!” Xu Ze smiled and nodded to Li Qifeng and the others, then gently pressed the accelerator, driving onto the street outside.
While driving, Xu Ze asked Zhao Linlin beside him, “Where do you all live?”
“School…” Zhao Linlin replied with a smile.
“School? All of you?” Xu Ze was taken aback.
“Yeah… of course we live at school. Where did you think we lived?” the three girls in the back chimed in laughing.
Zhao Linlin, seeing Xu Ze’s surprised expression, covered her mouth with a light laugh and explained, “They’re all my classmates. Li Qifeng is my brother’s classmate. We’ve been out singing together before. He called and invited me to hang out. Summer break is pretty boring with nothing to do, so we all came along…”
“Oh… I see!” Xu Ze nodded to himself, thinking, “So they’re all from Normal University. No wonder Li Qifeng managed to invite so many pretty girls at once.”
Then, Zhao Linlin smiled and introduced to her classmates, “He’s Xu Qing’er’s older brother…”
“Ah! He’s Xu Qing’er’s brother?” The girls were stunned, then laughed, “Linlin, you’re not kidding us, are you?”
“Why would I kid about that… It’s true! Hehe…” The girls, a bit tipsy, started playfully roughhousing in the car…
Watching the playful girls, Xu Ze’s thoughts drifted to Sun Lingfei and their agreement earlier that day…
He murmured to himself, “I will work hard…”
