Super Doctor - Chapter 158
Tao Yiyi had been watching from the car, initially full of confidence in Xu Ze. But when she saw knives being drawn—when things seemed to turn deadly serious—her composure shattered. She fumbled for her phone, about to call the police, only to see Xu Ze effortlessly take down the knife-wielding attacker in a few swift moves. Relief washed over her.
Watching Xu Ze’s precise, almost cinematic movements, her eyes sparkled with admiration. She couldn’t tear her gaze away, terrified he might get hurt.
So absorbed was she that she didn’t notice the man Xu Ze had just crippled—Zhuo Ku—dragging his broken leg toward the car, inch by inch.
By the time she spotted him, he was already just three or four meters away.
Panic seized her. She didn’t dare step out of the car, but watching that vicious grin approach through the glass was enough to make her blood run cold. Tears welled up as she covered her mouth, frozen in fear.
“You think this can stop me?” Xu Ze’s voice was icy as he glared at Wu Gang blocking his path. “You’re asking for death.”
The menace in those words sent a chill down Wu Gang’s spine. Before he could react, a blinding flash erupted from Xu Ze’s hand—
Zap!
Two thousand volts of electricity surged through Wu Gang’s body. His muscles locked, and he collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut.
Xu Ze didn’t pause. He sprinted toward the car.
Inside, Tao Yiyi’s tear-streaked face lit up with hope the moment she saw him coming.
Zhuo Ku, meanwhile, had just picked up a rock to smash the window when he noticed her sudden smile. A cold dread gripped him.
He turned—
Flash!
Another arc of electricity struck. The rock slipped from his fingers as his body stiffened and crashed to the ground.
Xu Ze yanked the car door open. Tao Yiyi, still trembling, scrambled out and threw herself into his arms, burying her face in his chest.
“I was so scared… I thought you wouldn’t make it in time…” she sobbed.
“Of course I would,” Xu Ze murmured, stroking her hair. “No one’s hurting you while I’m here.”
Nearby, Zhang Junhai and his friends—who had been spectating from a safe distance—had long since retreated to their cars in terror. After witnessing Xu Ze dismantle Zhuo Ku with brutal efficiency, then drop the other two with literal lightning strikes, they wasted no time peeling out, leaving their hired thugs behind like discarded trash.
It took a while for Xu Ze to calm Tao Yiyi down. Even after her tears dried, she clung to him like a lifeline, refusing to let go.
With a resigned sigh, he pulled out his phone and dialed Tang Zhi.
“You’re what?!” Tang Zhi’s voice crackled with disbelief. After confirming Xu Ze was unharmed, he promised to come immediately.
True to his word, Tang Zhi arrived within minutes in his Audi A8. His tense shoulders relaxed the moment he saw Xu Ze—alive, well, and somewhat awkwardly trapped in a hug by a beautiful girl.
Amused, Tang Zhi raised an eyebrow. “Busy, I see.”
He then inspected the three unconscious men on the ground. Wu Gang and the stocky one were relatively intact, but Zhuo Ku…
“Damn.”
The man lay twisted like a broken doll—wrist bent backward, left leg grotesquely angled. Tang Zhi couldn’t help but think he’d make a convincing (and profitable) beggar in this state.
“Xu Ze’s gotten ruthless,” he mused, wincing at the damage.
“His name’s Zhuo Ku,” Xu Ze said flatly. “Nine confirmed murders. Wiped out an entire family—eight people, including a three-year-old.”
Tang Zhi stiffened. He remembered that case. Without hesitation, he kicked Zhuo Ku twice—though the already-unconscious man didn’t react. A quick pulse check confirmed he was still (barely) alive.
Soon, sirens wailed in the distance. Tang Zhi had wisely called both police and an ambulance.
One ambulance, as it turned out—which meant Zhuo Ku got priority transport, while Wu Gang was unceremoniously tossed into a police car. The stocky man, despite his broken ribs, was slapped awake, cuffed, and hauled off for interrogation.
With the scene cleared, Tang Zhi smirked at Xu Ze and his still-clinging companion.
“Relax. The old man will handle this. That little bastard Zhang’s in deep trouble now—and these three won’t see daylight again.”
With a knowing look, he left them to their own devices.
…..
Alone again, Xu Ze sighed. “Alright, Yiyi… it’s over. Let me take you home.”
“No!” She tightened her grip. “I’m not going back. I’m too scared.”
“Then what? You can’t stay at school either.”
Cheeks flushed, she peeked up at him. “Xu Ze… could you… stay with me tonight? I’ll have nightmares otherwise. I—I only feel safe near you.”
“Uh…” He scratched his head. Given that this mess was technically his fault, he couldn’t refuse. “Fine.”
By the time they reached Qingyuan Apartments, it was already 10 PM. Xu Ze checked his watch, relieved that Sun Linfei—who hadn’t visited in days—probably wouldn’t show up tonight.
The dark, empty apartment confirmed his guess.
Tao Yiyi trailed behind him nervously, her face still damp from tears. “Xu Ze… can I wash my face?”
“Sure.” He led her to the bathroom and waited as she splashed water on her face.
Without makeup, her natural beauty shone even brighter—delicate features, flawless skin.
“Trouble,” Xu Ze muttered under his breath.
“Okay, face washed. Now what? Do we sit on the couch all night, or…?”
“Can I see your room?”
She padded into his bedroom, eyes lighting up at the sight of his soft, inviting bed. Exhaustion from the night’s adrenaline crash hit her all at once.
The moment she smelled his pillow—that uniquely Xu Ze scent—she practically melted. Kicking off her shoes, she flopped onto the bed, hugging his pillow like a teddy bear.
“Xu Ze…” She yawned, blinking sleepily at him. “Come lie down too? Please?”
He stared. “Why does everyone like hugging my pillow?” (Sun Linfei’s habit flashed through his mind.) “Aren’t you worried I might… y’know…?”
“You wouldn’t.” She smiled drowsily. “I trust you.”
“Why are girls always so sure about this?” he grumbled internally. “I am a guy, you know.”
But with no other choice, he climbed in beside her, keeping a careful distance.
The moment he settled, Tao Yiyi’s breathing evened out, her grip on the pillow loosening as sleep took her.
Leaving Xu Ze wide awake, staring at the ceiling, and wondering how he kept ending up in these situations.
