Super Doctor - Chapter 132
After enduring Xiao Dao’s nagging all night, Xu Ze woke up early, packed his things, had breakfast, and bid his reluctant parents goodbye before heading back to Xing City. Xu Hao and Xu Qing’er, however, were forced by their parents to stay home for a couple more days.
As he drove into the city, Xu Ze thought of Sun Lingfei. I should let her know I’m back. He dialed her number.
“Hey… Xu Ze, are you back?” Her delighted voice came through immediately.
Hearing that familiar, pleasant tone, Xu Ze felt an inexplicable warmth. “Yeah, just got back.”
“Ah! Really? That’s amazing!” Sun Lingfei cheered. “You have to cook for me at noon!”
“Sure, I’ll cook for you.” Xu Ze smiled. “What do you want? I’ll go buy groceries.”
“Kung Pao chicken, stir-fried cucumbers, carrot and pork rib soup, and spicy fried pork!” she rattled off happily.
“Got it. I’ll go shopping. Come over later.” Hanging up, Xu Ze drove straight to the supermarket.
By 10 a.m., he returned with bags of groceries. The moment he opened the door, Sun Lingfei came bounding out barefoot, her slender legs flashing as she took the bags from him. “Xu Ze, you’re finally back! I can finally eat a proper meal!”
So she’s just waiting for me to cook? Guess I’m destined to be a part-time chef. He sighed inwardly but chuckled at her bright, crescent-moon eyes. Ah well… If it’s for her, I don’t mind.
With time to spare, Xu Ze plopped onto the sofa, snacked on the treats Sun Lingfei had brought, and flipped through TV channels.
Noticing him hogging her spot and munching her snacks, Sun Lingfei pouted adorably and squeezed in beside him, tucking her legs under her. She grabbed a snack but then remembered something.
“Oh! I went shopping yesterday and saw this T-shirt.” She handed him a bag. “Thought it’d suit you. Try it later.”
“For me?” Xu Ze blinked, touched. The white printed tee inside was exactly his style.
“It’s nice. I’ll look great in it,” he grinned. “But I won’t wear it now—don’t want it smelling like grease. I’ll model it for you after lunch.”
“Deal!” Sun Lingfei’s eyes sparkled with satisfaction.
A Korean drama played on TV, and Sun Lingfei was engrossed. Xu Ze mused, She might be tougher than most girls, but she’s still a girl at heart—snacks, romance shows, the works.
The leads were easy on the eyes, so Xu Ze didn’t mind. Munching on broad beans, breathing in Sun Lingfei’s faint floral scent, and watching mindless romance—it was oddly relaxing.
“Xu Ze… Did you have fun at home?” Sun Lingfei asked absently, eyes still on the screen.
Glancing at her delicate profile, Xu Ze smiled. “Yeah. Mostly ate well—Mom made chicken and duck.”
“You cook those all the time. What’s the difference?”
“These were free-range, bought by Dad from the countryside. Mom slow-cooked them for hours.” He sighed nostalgically at the memory of yesterday’s herbal chicken soup.
When Sun Lingfei didn’t respond, he turned and saw her expression dim.
“I’ve never had food my dad bought specially… or soup my mom made,” she murmured.
Her quiet sadness weighed on Xu Ze. This must be the hidden cost of growing up wealthy.
Heart aching, he impulsively pulled her into a hug. “It’s okay. From now on, I’ll buy groceries and make soup for you every day.”
Sun Lingfei stiffened at first, but his soothing words melted her tension. She relaxed into his arms, breathing in his comforting scent until the melancholy faded.
Much later, she pulled away, cheeks pink. “It’s 11 already. I’m hungry… Cook for me?”
“Sure.” Xu Ze’s heart raced as he stood—Did I really just hug her?—and hurried to the kitchen.
Watching his retreating figure, Sun Lingfei’s vision blurred. Why are you so good to me? The more you do, the harder it’ll be if…
…..
Fragrant Kung Pao chicken, cucumber stir-fried with perilla, spicy pork slices, and carrot-rib soup—Xu Ze felt today’s cooking was his best yet. Raising his wine glass, he smiled. “Cheers.”
Sun Lingfei, cheeks faintly flushed, clinked her glass with his and sipped the ruby liquid.
Xu Ze downed his wine and poured them both a little more. “Try the dishes. I think I outdid myself today.”
Surveying the mouthwatering spread, Sun Lingfei nodded eagerly. She picked up a golden chicken cube, and as the savory flavors burst on her tongue, her face lit up.
“Xu Ze, you’re incredible! This is the best meal I’ve ever had!”
Pleased, Xu Ze tried a pork slice himself, savoring its tenderness.
This time, they showed restraint—only finishing half the bottle between them.
Seeing Sun Lingfei’s tipsy glow, Xu Ze chuckled. “Go rest after eating.”
“No. You cooked, so I’ll clean.” She stubbornly stacked the empty plates and carried them to the kitchen.
Amused by her determination, Xu Ze relented. “Fine, you clear the table. But I’ll wash the dishes.”
“Okay.” She grinned. “I know you don’t trust my dishwashing skills.”
After wiping the table, Sun Lingfei vanished while Xu Ze scrubbed the porcelain—No way I’m letting her handle these expensive Jingdezhen bowls drunk.
When he finished, the dining area was spotless, but Sun Lingfei was nowhere in sight. He checked his room and, sure enough, found her sprawled on his bed.
She hugged his pillow, her jade-like feet swaying midair—a tantalizing sight.
Xu Ze sat beside her. “Do you have to hijack my bed every time?”
“Yes!” She wrinkled her nose, cheeks pink. Adorable.
Shaking his head, Xu Ze lay down too. Thankfully, the bed was wide enough to share.
Sun Lingfei nuzzled his pillow, breathing in his calming scent. Watching his still face, she realized—He actually fell asleep?!
After minutes of no movement, she gave up. Huffing, she inched closer until his familiar warmth surrounded her, then drifted off contentedly.
