Super Doctor - Chapter 104
Xu Ze suddenly remembered something crucial. Before he had officially advanced to Level 1 Medical Soldier, he had still been able to use certain Level 1 privileges—provided he could figure out what those privileges were.
Following that logic, now that he had successfully reached Level 1, as long as he understood what Level 2 privileges entailed, he should theoretically be able to access them as well, even if he hadn’t officially unlocked them yet.
“An ultrasound is probably a Level 2 privilege, but I should still be able to use it now!” Xu Ze’s eyebrows lifted in excitement as he quickly issued the command in his mind: “Activate B-mode ultrasound scan!”
“Beep… B-mode ultrasound scan activated!”
As soon as the command was given, a faint glimmer passed over his glasses, and just as he had hoped, the ultrasound function booted up. His vision shifted, revealing the patient’s abdominal organs in increasing clarity. Within the dim, shadowy display, Xu Ze quickly located the kidneys.
“Hmm… There’s hydronephrosis in the left kidney!”
Seeing this, Xu Ze’s excitement surged. Hydronephrosis usually indicated a blockage in the ureter—and the most common cause of such a blockage was a kidney stone.
Eagerly, he traced the path downward from the kidney and, sure enough, found a small stone lodged in the middle of the ureter, glowing faintly white in his vision and completely obstructing the passage.
Now that he had confirmed the diagnosis, Xu Ze lightly tapped the patient’s kidney area before looking up at Old Man Zhang. “It’s most likely a urinary tract stone.”
Old Man Zhang paused, then quickly grasped the reasoning. Given the symptoms, this was indeed a strong possibility—he had just been misled by the gastroenteritis angle earlier. Nodding approvingly, he said, “Good call, Xu Ze. Let’s proceed with that diagnosis.”
Turning to Nurse Luo, he instructed, “Administer 20mg of progesterone intramuscularly, plus 0.1g of tramadol.”
“Understood, Dr. Zhang!” Nurse Luo, who had been growing anxious, quickly prepared the injections.
Once the shots were given, Old Man Zhang reassured the patient’s son, “Aside from gastroenteritis, we’re also considering the possibility of a stone. These medications should help. Please be patient.”
The middle-aged man, visibly stressed, relaxed slightly and muttered, “Alright, thank you.”
With the patient temporarily handled, the three doctors returned to the clinic. But Xu Ze couldn’t shake his unease. The stone he had seen was at least 6-7mm in size, firmly wedged in the ureter—unlikely to pass easily. While the medications Old Man Zhang prescribed could help in many cases, they might not be enough for this one.
Xu Ze silently prayed the treatment would bring some relief. Otherwise, given the son’s temper, things could get ugly.
His worries proved justified. Before long, the man stormed back into the clinic, his face dark with anger. “Dr. Zhang! It didn’t work! Did you misdiagnose him?”
“No effect?” Old Man Zhang frowned but remained calm. “That shouldn’t be. Let’s take another look.”
The three doctors followed the man back to the injection room, where the patient was still clutching his stomach in pain. Old Man Zhang’s confidence wavered. While both he and Xu Ze suspected a stone, the lack of response to treatment was troubling. Without imaging equipment, they couldn’t be certain—and that left them vulnerable.
The son’s patience snapped. “Did you even diagnose him right? All these drugs and he’s still in agony! What kind of clinic is this?”
“If you messed up and made his condition worse, I’ll hold you responsible!”
Zhao Qilong, unable to stomach the disrespect, snapped back, “Watch your tone! Dr. Zhang has decades of experience. You think he’d misdiagnose on purpose?”
“I don’t care who he is!” The man snarled. “If you can’t fix this, refund my money! I’ll take him somewhere else. And if it turns out you were wrong, I’ll ruin your reputation!”
“You—!” Zhao Qilong, unused to such hostility, turned red with rage.
Old Man Zhang raised a hand to silence him, then addressed the man calmly. “We do our best with every patient, but medicine isn’t infallible. Even major hospitals can’t guarantee perfect diagnoses. Without proper equipment, we can only make educated guesses.”
“If you wish to go elsewhere, that’s your right. But accusing us of negligence is uncalled for.”
The man sneered. “Oh, so now it’s ‘educated guesses’? If you didn’t misdiagnose, why isn’t he better? Face it—you’re just quacks covering your asses!”
“This place is a joke! Refund my money now, or I’ll—”
“Do you have proof we misdiagnosed him?”
A cold voice cut through the tension. Xu Ze stepped forward, his eyes sharp.
The man scoffed. “Proof? First you said gastroenteritis, now a stone? None of your drugs worked. That’s proof enough!”
Xu Ze’s gaze hardened. “Fine. I’m telling you now—it’s gastroenteritis and a ureteral stone. And I’ll treat it.”
“If he recovers, you apologize to Dr. Zhang in front of everyone. If not, we refund every cent.”
“And if another hospital proves we were wrong, I’ll pay you compensation myself.”
The man hesitated, unnerved by Xu Ze’s icy confidence. But greed soon overrode caution. This kid’s bluffing. Even his mentor failed. Let’s see him try.
“Fine!” He smirked. “But remember—if you fail, I’m taking my money and your reputation.”
The surrounding patients shook their heads at his shamelessness. Meanwhile, Old Man Zhang tugged Xu Ze’s sleeve, whispering urgently, “Xu Ze, don’t provoke him. He’s just looking for trouble. A refund’s the safest way out.”
Xu Ze smiled. “If we let him leave like this, he’ll badmouth the clinic everywhere. We need to shut him up—permanently.”
Old Man Zhang frowned. Even with a stone diagnosis, standard painkillers had failed. The only options left were powerful narcotics like morphine or pethidine—controlled substances their clinic didn’t carry.
How does Xu Ze plan to treat this?
Yet Xu Ze’s calm assurance gave him pause. The young man wasn’t reckless. If he said he could do it, he likely had a plan.
And so, with the entire clinic watching, Xu Ze prepared to make his move.
Only Zhao Qilong stood apart, a sneer twisting his lips. “Go ahead, hotshot. Dig your own grave.”
