Special Agent’s Rebirth: The Almighty Goddess of Quick Transmigration - Chapter 265
They were soldiers by profession.
Sui Yun was their leader, the commander of the First Corps in the capital city.
The capital’s safe zone belonged to the Sui family.
“They’re currently stationed in T City, not far from us, and will stay there for three days,” the baby-faced man said excitedly, standing up. “Once we find them, we’ll reach the capital in no time.”
Everyone in the team was from the capital, and the thought of going home filled them with excitement.
Ye Shaohua leaned back in her chair, idly toying with a second-tier crystal core. By now, the team no longer had any use for such low-tier cores.
Still, crystal cores could be exchanged for other supplies—some even more valuable than food.
Whenever the team found cores they didn’t need, they handed them to Ye Shaohua.
She never refused. By now, she had nearly a thousand cores in her possession.
This once-disciplined team had, under her influence, become as unpredictable and unorthodox as she was.
Su Ran watched his formerly strict subordinates lounging around barefoot, behaving like a rowdy bunch, and sighed. This doesn’t look like the apocalypse—it’s more like a vacation!
Though he pretended to disapprove, his eyes were full of amusement.
Over the next three days, Ye Shaohua led the group in killing two more zombies—one fire-attribute and one wind-attribute.
Aside from Weiwei’s boyfriend, both the baby-faced man and Su Ran advanced to third-tier abilities.
By then, they had also caught up with Sui Yun’s main force.
“Captain Su, looks like you’ve had it easy,” said a striking, sharp-eyed woman as she sized up Su Ran’s group, barely glancing at Ye Shaohua and Weiwei. Their temporary base was a cleared-out supermarket. “But before entering, you’ll need to undergo virus screening. Anyone infected can’t come in.”
Su Ran and the others had no objections. After confirming they had no wounds, the woman—Wei Qi—led them inside.
“That’s Colonel Wei Qi. Back in the military, she was almost on par with the captain,” Qi Feng whispered to Ye Shaohua.
“Colonel Wei is already a second-tier wind-attribute ability user!” one of the soldiers from the main force said proudly, overhearing Qi Feng. “She’s the second strongest in the corps after Commander Sui Yun!”
Wei Qi merely smiled faintly, as if it were nothing noteworthy.
She picked up a satellite phone to contact Sui Yun, who was leading a team to hunt down the city’s zombie leader and wouldn’t return for a while.
“How have you been holding up out there?” Wei Qi asked Qi Feng, eyeing them with mild curiosity. “What’s your combat level?”
Su Ran waved a hand modestly. “Oh, just average.”
Wei Qi didn’t doubt it. In her eyes, without satellite communication, Su Ran’s team had no way to coordinate with the capital or improve their abilities.
“Here are two first-tier crystal cores,” Wei Qi said, handing them to Su Ran. “Absorb them. I’ll teach you how later. But first, there’s something you should know.”
“Commander Sui Yun has ordered your team to merge with ours for now.”
She frowned as she took in Ye Shaohua’s group—especially Qi Feng and the others, laughing and joking without a care. They looked nothing like survivors of the apocalypse.
They must’ve gotten lucky and avoided danger along the way.
Their lack of strength and ignorance about core absorption made Wei Qi reluctant to accept them. But since it was Sui Yun’s order, she had no choice.
“Fine,” Su Ran agreed without protest.
“However, these ordinary people can’t join us,” Wei Qi said, pointing at Ye Shaohua and the others. “We’ve already taken in a group of civilians. They can stay with them.”
Her gaze lingered on Ye Shaohua and Weiwei, her disdain evident.
Women were rare in the apocalypse, and many in the corps had arrangements with female survivors—protection in exchange for certain favors.
Wei Qi assumed Ye Shaohua and Weiwei were no different.
Especially Ye Shaohua—even in peacetime, she would’ve been considered a rare beauty.
“No,” Su Ran refused immediately. “They’ve fought alongside us the whole way. Even without abilities, they’re strong. They won’t hold you back.”
Qi Feng, who had been discussing with Ye Shaohua about scavenging lab equipment from the city, shot Wei Qi a cold glare.
“Our team doesn’t take in ordinary people,” Wei Qi said flatly. “If you insist on bringing them, I won’t allow your team to merge with mine.”
She was convinced Su Ran had grown lax during the apocalypse.
Fine by me. Su Ran wasn’t keen on merging either—not if it meant Ye Shaohua would be sidelined.
“Take it up with Commander Sui Yun when he returns,” Wei Qi said, relieved Su Ran didn’t push further. Her attitude softened slightly.
At lunchtime, rations were distributed.
Wei Qi received a sausage, a bottle of water, and instant noodles.
Ye Shaohua’s group got only a small piece of bread.
Such was the corps’ rule—those with higher abilities got more supplies.
“Miss Ye, have mine!” Qi Feng immediately pulled out a can of beef they’d scavenged earlier and handed it to her.
The baby-faced man, too slow, kicked him in frustration.
Su Ran chuckled and pulled out a cola from his backpack. “There are two left—enough for two days.”
He made a mental note to gather supplies after meeting Sui Yun.
Watching them, Wei Qi smirked at Ye Shaohua’s pristine appearance. “You should really rely on your own resources.”
Ye Shaohua ignored her.
Su Ran and the others didn’t bother responding either. None of them touched the corps’ rations.
After the meal, Wei Qi contacted Sui Yun via satellite phone.
Weiwei, who had grown deeply respectful of Ye Shaohua, was the team’s social butterfly. She had already gathered intel on the corps from others.
“Colonel Wei Qi is incredible,” a woman beside Weiwei whispered. “See that satellite phone? Only a handful exist nationwide. Even in our corps, only she and the commander have one.”
Her voice dripped with envy as she stared at Wei Qi.
Weiwei paused mid-reach for her own phone, giving Ye Shaohua a complicated look.
What should I say? That even a support member like me has one?
Just then, the base erupted in noise.
“The commander’s back!”
