Skills with no cooldown? I become the Undead Scourge! - Chapter 7
Lu Ran rolled his eyes. “Looking for me for something?”
Qin Wuyao grinned.
“Nope, just ran into you by chance.”
Lu Ran wasn’t buying it. This was the slums—a place a rich girl like Qin Wuyao would never normally set foot in, let alone eat at some no-name diner.
But as he studied her, a thought struck him.
Wouldn’t she be the perfect teammate?
Not ideal, but at least they were… sort of friends.
Over the past few years at the academy, Lu Ran had kept to himself. Despite the attention from his 130 Spirit stat, his introverted nature meant few connections.
Wang Yujiao had been the exception—his girlfriend, at least until now.
That left Qin Wuyao as arguably his only remaining “friend.”
Just then, Qin Wuyao, scrambling for conversation, asked, “Got plans tomorrow? I hit level 5. We could party up for a dungeon.”
Seizing the opening, Lu Ran slid the Rift Contract onto the table.
“If you’re interested, let’s tackle this tomorrow. Rewards split 70-30. Deal?”
Qin Wuyao blinked, staring at the scroll before her eyes widened in realization.
“Wait—a Rift Contract? Where did you…?”
Lu Ran shrugged. “Dumb luck. It’s only level 10, though. If you’re in, we go tomorrow. If not, I’ll find—”
“I’m in!” Qin Wuyao cut in, her tone final. “It’s settled. See you then!”
As if afraid he’d change his mind, she bolted before he could respond.

Next Morning
Lu Ran arrived early at the academy for roll call.
Even post-graduation, new graduates were required to report daily for the first month. The academy’s role was to guide these rookies—correcting missteps, drilling dungeon mechanics, and ironing out bad habits.
But today was also a big day.
Lu Ran lived in the slums; the academy sat in the city’s wealthy core. The distance wasn’t trivial, but he was used to walking.
Meanwhile, Qin Wuyao arrived in style—chauffeured by her brother Qin Lie in a sleek car.
Through the window, they watched a stream of students flaunting flashy, stats-be-damned gear as they strutted into the academy.
Qin Lie chuckled. “Same every year. Newly minted classers treating gear like fashion. Give it a month, and they’ll be hiding those visuals outside dungeons.”
Turning to Qin Wuyao, he asked, “How close to level 6?”
“Hit 80% yesterday. With the party EXP buff, today’s dungeon run should seal it,” she replied.
“Solid. That’s gotta be top of the cohort, right?”
Qin Wuyao’s face stiffened.
“Top is debatable. But definitely not first.”
Not with Lu Ran already at level 8.
Unaware, Qin Lie scoffed. “Where’s your confidence? No family’s pouring resources like ours.”
Qin Wuyao said nothing, stepping out of the car but pausing to add, “After assembly, I’m running a dungeon with a friend. Call off the family grind squad.”
She shut the door before Qin Lie could probe further.
Curious about the new graduates’ progress—and representing the Heavenly Path Guild’s upcoming recruitment—Qin Lie headed to the faculty office instead of leaving.

Academy Grounds
Students flooded the assembly area, clustering by class. The stage stood empty, its massive display screen still dark.
The air buzzed with excitement as rookies compared Day 1 exploits:
-
“The newbie level rankings drop today!”
-
“What’d you hit? I partied all day and only got to 3!”
-
“Slept through the afternoon—still level 2, lol.”
-
“Qin Wuyao’s gotta be first. Hidden class, bro!”
Lu Ran arrived to find Class 3’s section already lively.
Liang Shaoyu and Wang Yujiao—both Class 3—noticed him immediately.
Seizing the chance, Liang Shaoyu yanked Wang Yujiao’s wrist, dragging her toward Lu Ran despite her resistance.
This wasn’t just mockery—it was vengeance. Three years of chasing Wang Yujiao, only for her to choose Lu Ran. Now, with her finally in his grasp, Liang Shaoyu wanted the whole class to see.
He slung an arm around Wang Yujiao, pulling her flush against him in front of Lu Ran.
Former classmates who’d once sucked up to Lu Ran now laughed at his expense:
-
“Liang, go easy on him!”
-
“Lu Ran dated Wang Yujiao for three years without scoring. Liang, how’d you do?”
-
“Ouch—man’s already stuck with Necromancer. No need to twist the knife.”
-
“Relax, with 130 Spirit, he can take it!”
The jeers washed over Lu Ran, leaving him unfazed.
Had he been a standard Necromancer, the taunts might’ve stung.
But with his golden-tier talents? These people were ants.
Liang Shaoyu, however, reveled in it.
“Scoring’s easy,” he bragged, tightening his grip on Wang Yujiao. “Just check her walk—proof’s right there!”
Wang Yujiao clenched her jaw, feeling like a trophy.
The tenderness Lu Ran had shown her? Nonexistent with Liang Shaoyu.
But she’d endure it. She needed that Heavenly Path Guild slot—and was certain Lu Ran could never secure it.
“Cat got your tongue, Lu Ran?” Liang Shaoyu sneered. “What level? Two?”
He smirked. “FYI—I’m 4, almost 5. Wang Yujiao’s 4 too. Bet you’re lagging, huh?”
Lu Ran ignored him, dropping into his seat.
This was academy grounds. With assembly imminent, Liang Shaoyu’s bark was worse than his bite.
