Skills with no cooldown? I become the Undead Scourge! - Chapter 37
This was Lu Ran’s first time entering the Endless Tower dungeon.
His position was within the safe zone on one side of a massive platform. In the center of the platform was a Pippi Pig, just a much larger version.
[Level 1 Pippi Pig (Floor 1)]
Lu Ran could see the level and the monster’s name, but not its health bar, attributes, or other stats.
This Level 1 creature was clearly the easiest possible. Lu Ran wasn’t in a hurry to fight. Instead, he turned to look around his surroundings.
The entire platform was surrounded by walls, with eight towering stone pillars arranged in an octagonal pattern, supporting the dome high above. The height was roughly fifty meters. He could also see eight tower windows.
Lu Ran guessed his current location was undoubtedly the first floor of the Endless Tower. The plan was simply to fight his way up from here. Though, he hadn’t spotted any stairs or other means to reach the second floor above yet.
“Time to get started then. These lower levels should be easy,” Lu Ran murmured to himself.
He then pulled out his staff. It’s worth mentioning that the staff in Lu Ran’s hand was no longer the Frostwolf Staff. It was a Level-Free Epic item selected for him by Ye Hongyi.
The reason for choosing this particular one was its high Intelligence stat and an additional 3% bonus to Magic Attack. As Liu Xinxin had put it, any percentage-based increase to Magic Attack was a god-tier attribute for Lu Ran! For ordinary magic-based classes, a small boost like this might seem insignificant. But adding 3% Magic Attack to the charged damage of Lu Ran’s Blood Spear resulted in a terrifyingly massive damage increase!
Boom!
In the blink of an eye, over a dozen skeletons were summoned and thrown out, rushing forward to use Corpse Explosion on the Pippi Pig.
Instant kill. No suspense whatsoever.
[Congratulations on clearing Endless Tower Floor 1. Reward: 10,000 EXP]
“Ten thousand EXP? Wow, not bad!” Lu Ran murmured. Compared to a dungeon, 10,000 EXP was negligible, but remember, this was only the first floor of the Endless Tower! No wonder each Class Holder could only receive the experience reward for each floor once.
Then, within the safe zone at the edge of the platform where Lu Ran had entered, a spiraling staircase leading upwards appeared. Because the floor height was fifty meters, the spiral staircase looked like a long, thin piece of twisted dough.
Lu Ran directly stepped onto the stairs and ascended. The boss of the second floor was already waiting.
[Level 2 Dire Wolf (Floor 2)]
Lu Ran immediately sent skeletons up to Corpse Explosion it for a quick kill, intending to speed through the lower floors.
[Congratulations on clearing Endless Tower Floor 2. Reward: 20,000 EXP]
Lu Ran’s eyes narrowed slightly. “So, the experience reward is (Floor Number) x 10,000? The experience really is generous!” he mused. By the time he reached floors in the tens, each floor would yield hundreds of thousands of EXP!
And so, Lu Ran progressed floor by floor. His experience bar climbed steadily. The process was simple: mostly Corpse Explosion, clearing his way through effortlessly.
By the time he reached the seventeenth floor, Lu Ran successfully reached Level 20. And even now, it was still incredibly easy! Thanks to Touch of the Undead and his vast pool of Mana, he could almost endlessly throw out skeleton soldiers. The bosses, perpetually controlled by Touch of the Undead, stood still, passively taking hits, unable to fight back.
Lu Ran glanced at the staircase to the eighteenth floor that had already appeared but wasn’t in a hurry to go up. Instead, he opened his skill list to look. The Level 20 skill was now unlocked.
[Skill: Bone Storm]
[Cooldown: 2 minutes]
[Cost: 50 Mana]
[Effect: Gathers bones to form a storm, dealing sustained area-of-effect magic damage for 10 seconds to all enemy units within a thirty-meter radius!]
“A group attack skill,” Lu Ran murmured. Although he had learned about many class skills in school, there were simply too many, and he didn’t pay much attention to memorizing the skills of ordinary, conventional classes. This was the Necromancer’s next key skill after Blood Spear—a sustained damage AoE skill. It was highly sought after for dungeon parties; a ten-second Bone Storm could deal significant damage to dungeon mobs. Lu Ran completely ignored the two-minute cooldown. The mana cost was somewhat high, though, at 50 points.
“Not very useful. Corpse Explosion from the skeletons is already an AoE attack, albeit with a smaller range, but I summon so many!” Lu Ran reasoned. For other Necromancers, this skill was a great AoE option, but for him, it didn’t hold much significance.
But the moment Lu Ran saw the new Trait unlocked next, he immediately changed his mind.
[Trait: Boundless Horizons]
[Effect: From the day this Trait is unlocked, for every enemy unit killed, the area of effect of all skills increases by 1 meter, with no upper limit. (Current bonus: 0 meters)]
Lu Ran’s breathing instantly became rapid. This Trait was similar to All-Embracing. It also improved through killing enemy units, but instead of increasing cast range, Boundless Horizons increased the skills’ area of effect!
This was terrifying. Both Touch of the Undead and the newly unlocked Bone Storm had a base area of effect of thirty meters. But as Lu Ran’s kill count steadily grew, this range would become larger and larger. It was a shame the Trait had just unlocked; the bonus hadn’t started accumulating yet, and it didn’t inherit the range from All-Embracing. Otherwise, Lu Ran could currently throw out a Bone Storm covering forty kilometers!
What was the concept of a Bone Storm covering forty kilometers? It wouldn’t just cover a single major city! During a Nation War, a forty-kilometer range would be enough to blanket any country’s army! And with All-Embracing increasing his cast range, Lu Ran could throw Bone Storms from a long distance, covering an enemy nation’s army, with no cooldown, stacking infinite Bone Storms! Trying to run? Sorry, but the range of Touch of the Undead would also be forty kilometers! Every enemy Class Holder would be rooted in place! Even if they dispelled the control effect, it would be useless—Lu Ran’s Touch of the Undead had no cooldown!
It was a shame Lu Ran’s level was still low, and his Magic Attack insufficient. Otherwise, even entering the Nation War battlefield now, he could instantly control any country’s army and then use Bone Storm to wipe them out completely! The only drawback was his current lack of damage output.
“And any future area-of-effect skills I unlock won’t need to worry about their range either!” Lu Ran excitedly muttered. These Traits were simply getting more and more absurd. He was only Level 20, but already had: No cooldown on all skills! Infinite increase to all skill cast ranges! Infinite increase to all skill areas of effect! Now this was true invincibility! Even Lu Ran couldn’t imagine what he would become as he kept leveling up, reaching high levels, gaining seven or eight more skills, seven or eight more Traits.
“Phew, keep grinding.” Lu Ran calmed himself down. He looked at the staircase leading to the eighteenth floor and walked towards it. His climb continued unabated. Clearing a single floor now netted him several hundred thousand EXP! Lu Ran’s experience bar soared!
Meanwhile, in the dungeon hall.
The three guild leaders and Qin Wuya waited patiently outside. Although they were confident in Lu Ran’s abilities, they couldn’t help but feel a little apprehensive.
“I wonder how Lu Ran is doing,” Ye Hongyi asked with a trace of worry in her voice.
“Don’t worry! He has Blood Spear, all those skeletons, the Two Realms, the Treasure Gourd… what boss could possibly kill him?” Lei Tai was more easygoing, waving his hand dismissively.
In contrast, Liu Xinxin was more analytical. She glanced at the communicator on her wrist, then looked up at the entrance portal of the Endless Tower, saying with a smile, “The communicator light is on. Lu Ran is fine. He should have reached Level 20 already and still be climbing. I just wonder what new Trait he unlocked?”
