Skills with no cooldown? I become the Undead Scourge! - Chapter 29
Lu Ran did as he was told, charging up the Blood Spear.
Charging skills worked differently from regular skills.
When a regular skill was activated, it was cast immediately.
When a charging skill was activated, it would first enter a charging state. It would only be released after being activated again or once the charge was fully accumulated.
For Lu Ran, however, there was no such thing as automatic release upon full charge.
Moreover, the Blood Spear remained invisible before release, existing within the nether realm. Only upon release would it tear through space and be hurled out!
What a fantastic tool!
Perfect for home, travel, and ambushing enemies!
“Old Yu is really missing out by not joining the grind. I’d love to see his reaction when he finds out about your new affix,” Lei Tai remarked with a sigh.
“I’m more looking forward to seeing how Lu Ran performs in team dungeons and national wars,” Ye Hongyi added.
What’s more, as Lu Ran leveled up, he would unlock even more mysterious and increasingly overpowered affixes!
The thought reinvigorated the group. They had been growing bored and considered calling it an early day, but now they decided to grind a while longer, not wasting a single second. They would finish up before heading back for dinner.
They continued in the Frostwolf Valley on hard difficulty.
They planned to switch to the level-fifteen dungeon, the Ashen Jungle, tomorrow.
“Finally changing dungeons tomorrow. I’ve been suffocating in this mine for the past couple of days,” Lei Tai said wistfully.
“The Ashen Jungle is indeed better. The paths are wider, the map is more compact, so we should be able to clear it faster,” Liu Xinxin chimed in immediately.
After two more hours of grinding, the sky had completely darkened, and they finally left the dungeon.
Even though it was night, the dungeon hall was still quite crowded.
Most people, however, were gathered on the right side of the hall, where the noise was particularly loud.
Curious, Lu Ran and the others moved closer to see what was happening.
On the right side of the dungeon hall were numerous display panels of various sizes.
Lu Ran knew these displayed various ranking lists, but as a newcomer, he hadn’t paid them much attention.
They had everything: equipment rankings, level rankings, guild rankings.
But right now, everyone was focused on the Endless Tower rankings.
“The Endless Tower is a solo challenge dungeon. No equipment drops, but the EXP rewards are high. Each floor can only be cleared once, and the difficulty is quite high. They probably covered this in school, right?” Liu Xinxin immediately explained to Lu Ran.
It was a habit of hers. Whenever they entered a dungeon or encountered something new, she would instinctively explain it to Lu Ran first.
“Yeah, they taught us. What’s everyone gathered here for?” Lu Ran asked.
“Because the rankings have shifted,” Ye Hongyi replied, her eyes fixed on the list, a frown creasing her brow.
The Endless Tower rankings displayed thirty spots.
They showed the name, class, level, country, and guild of each player.
That’s right—the Endless Tower rankings were global!
Some of the names and classes clearly belonged to players from other countries.
“Nanasei, the one in first place, was originally third. The former first place was Yu Qingcang,” Ye Hongyi explained.
Lu Ran looked up.
Sure enough.
Yu Qingcang was now in second place.
First Place: Nanasei; Class: Onmyōji; Level: 62; Country: Sakura; Guild: Chinana Shrine; Floor: 61.
Second Place: Yu Qingcang; Class: Dragonblood Warrior; Level: 63; Country: Huaxia; Guild: Heavenly Dao Alliance; Floor: 59.
“A little Jap is in first?” Lu Ran’s eyes widened in disbelief. “How dare they?”
He could accept someone from another country taking the top spot, but a Jap surpassing Yu Qingcang? That instantly lit a fire in Lu Ran.
“Although Japan has a smaller population, their unique Onmyōji class is very powerful. The Endless Tower has strong limitations—magic classes hardly ever make the rankings due to the lack of a safe environment for output. Summoning classes have a comparative advantage,” Liu Xinxin explained.
As a Dragonblood Warrior, Yu Qingcang could activate his Dragonblood lineage once per dungeon entry, significantly boosting all his attributes and granting him a dragon ally in battle.
He had held the top spot in the Endless Tower for over half a year.
No one expected him to be suddenly overtaken by this Jap!
“The shikigami controlled by an Onmyōji, Japan’s unique class, are similar to a Summoner’s beasts. The difference is, each Onmyōji activates different shikigami. This Nanasei is the young lady of the Tsuchimikado family in Japan. Rumor has it her shikigami is extremely powerful! What’s strange is that Nanasei’s ranking hadn’t changed much in the past six months, yet she suddenly surpassed Yu Qingcang in one go, and by two floors!” Liu Xinxin continued.
This was also why Japan could surpass Huaxia in national wars.
If it were a contest of total population, Japan wouldn’t stand a chance even if they dug up all their ancestors!
But national wars have participant limits. Japan fields large numbers of Onmyōji, controlling a variety of shikigami—it’s practically like an army of Summoners!
This advantage has made Japan increasingly arrogant on the international stage in recent years!
“Can I challenge the Endless Tower?” Lu Ran suddenly asked.
Hearing this, Ye Hongyi and the others were taken aback.
Then Lei Tai slapped his forehead excitedly. “Right! I almost forgot! Lu Ran can charge his Blood Spear! What floor could possibly withstand a charged Blood Spear from him? Some bitch from Japan? Lu Ran could crush her right now!”
But Liu Xinxin immediately vetoed the idea.
After a moment’s thought, she said, “Each floor of the Endless Tower does only have one monster, but there’s a time limit for each floor—thirty minutes. If you don’t finish within that time, you’re forcibly ejected from the dungeon.”
She patted Lu Ran on the shoulder and continued, “With Lu Ran’s current magic attack power, even charging for half an hour would only deal 540,000 damage. Factoring in the magic resistance of high-floor Endless Tower bosses, it wouldn’t be enough to one-shot them.”
Unless Lu Ran spent several hours charging, entered the Endless Tower, one-shotted a boss, came out, and repeated the process.
But that would be terribly inefficient—only a few floors per day.
“Still, there’s no need to be discouraged,” Liu Xinxin said, trying to lift everyone’s spirits. “If we quickly boost Lu Ran’s magic attack power and get him some better gear, it will be easy for him to surpass Nanasei in the Endless Tower.”
Meanwhile, far away in the capital…
Yu Qingcang had just returned to his residence after dealing with a busy schedule and immediately learned that his Endless Tower ranking had been surpassed.
“She surpassed me by two floors in a single day. The 60th floor is a major hurdle—she actually cleared it,” Yu Qingcang muttered, frowning.
While the rankings themselves offered no rewards, a global ranking was about winning honor for your country!
Now, to be trampled by a Jap—the humiliation and frustration he felt were it’s conceivable.
He knew the difficulty of the 60th floor hurdle. He had attempted it several times himself and had nearly died, so he hadn’t dared to risk pushing further.
After all, even in the Endless Tower, death was permanent.
But then, he thought of Lu Ran, and his frown instantly eased.
“What’s the big deal about fighting for a spot on the Endless Tower rankings?” he said, curling his lip. “These past couple of days, I wonder how Lu Ran’s leveling efficiency has been. Has his new affix unlocked? What’s its effect?”
He just couldn’t contain his curiosity.
