Skills with no cooldown? I become the Undead Scourge! - Chapter 27
They had left, but Wang Yujiao remained where she was.
Her hopeful eyes fixed on Lu Ran as she struggled to speak. “Lu Ran, what a… coincidence.”
Ye Hongyi glanced at Lu Ran curiously.
“Little brother, do you know this girl?” she asked.
Lu Ran shrugged. “Not really.”
Those two words—not really—instantly shattered the last sliver of hope in Wang Yujiao’s heart.
Her gaze met Lu Ran’s, but the warmth that had once softened the boy’s eyes was gone, replaced by an icy indifference.
This wasn’t feigned detachment—it was genuine apathy, as if he were looking at a complete stranger.
Wang Yujiao’s heart clenched painfully. “Sorry for bothering you,” she muttered awkwardly before turning and leaving the private room.
By now, Liang Tai had lost all appetite. He grabbed Liang Shaoyu and stormed out of Tianyuan Restaurant.
After a brief delay, Wang Yujiao followed.
Slap!
Liang Shaoyu struck her hard across the face. “You shameless bitch!” he snarled. “What, were you waiting for Lu Ran to forgive you? Dream on! He’s sitting at the same table as the three guild leaders now—you think he’d spare a second glance at a used-up slut like you?”
His words were venomous.
Wang Yujiao stood frozen, clutching her stinging cheek, tears welling in her eyes. This treatment didn’t surprise her. The moment she had chosen to abandon Lu Ran and offer herself as a tool to Liang Shaoyu, she had expected it.
But the outcome wasn’t what she had envisioned. There was no hope of entering the Heavenly Dao Alliance—none at all.
And Lu Ran had severed all ties with her.
A bitter thought crept into her mind: If I had stayed with Lu Ran, unwavering, would I have shared in his success?
She recognized those three towering figures in China. The way things had unfolded—Ye Hongyi calling Lu Ran little brother—was beyond shocking.
Not only that, but Lei Tai of the Battle Banner Army and Liu Xinxin of Mirror Blossom Waters also knew Lu Ran!
He was dining with them as an equal!
Compared to her own wretched state now, Wang Yujiao could only taste the bitterness of regret.
In just three days, Lu Ran had become someone from a different world.
Her dazed eyes settled on Liang Shaoyu, who was still hurling abuse at her.
A hollow realization struck her: As a rare-class profession holder, even steady growth would have guaranteed a comfortable life at higher levels. Was it really worth betraying Lu Ran just for a desperate gamble to join the Heavenly Dao Alliance within the first month?
Regret gnawed at her.
But in this world, there was no medicine for remorse.
Liang Tai shot Wang Yujiao a dismissive glance before dragging Liang Shaoyu away.
“Pack your things!” Liang Tai hissed through gritted teeth.
“What? Dad, are we going somewhere?” Liang Shaoyu asked, confused.
“Going somewhere? You brainless mutt! I’ve fed you, clothed you, even handled your leveling—and what do you do? Strut around picking fights with Lu Ran like you’re hot shit! Now you’ve pissed off the leaders of the three major guilds, and you think we can just keep living it up in Blackflame City? You worthless trash! Do you hear me? Worthless!” Liang Tai roared, his fury stripping away any semblance of dignity.
It was rare to see Liang Tai this enraged.
Liang Shaoyu didn’t dare utter another word, silently gathering his belongings.
Meanwhile—
At the Blackflame City branch of the Heavenly Dao Alliance, Qin Lie and several other enforcers were mobilizing. A formidable force marched toward the Liang residence.
Qin Wuyao had long since handed over the communicators from the three assassins who had targeted Lu Ran.
But with Lu Ran’s situation taking priority the past few days, retribution had been delayed. Now, old and new debts would be settled together.
…..
Back at Tianyuan Restaurant—
Lu Ran stared at the lavish spread before him, stunned.
Forget the private room’s minimum charge—just the presentation of these dishes screamed extravagance.
Ye Hongyi had just finished a call with Yu Qingcang.
“Red Sis,” Lu Ran ventured, “this feast must’ve cost a fortune. Isn’t it a bit wasteful for just a meal?”
Ye Hongyi waved him off. “All 108 Tianyuan Restaurants across the country belong to my Scarlet Leaf Commerce. Waste? Nonsense. Just eat. Try this Charmfish—signature dish. Gives a one-time +5 Agility boost. Pity it only works once per person, but the taste is worth it.”
Lu Ran blinked.
He’d heard rumors about certain dishes granting stat bonuses, but to think it was real—and a full five points at that!
Compared to others, it was like leveling up an extra time!
That night, not only did the three guild leaders stay at Lu Ran’s home, but Qin Wuyao did as well.
Lei Tai’s gifted mansion was spacious enough, and for efficiency’s sake—not to mention Lu Ran’s safety—they all decided to stay together.
…..
Meanwhile, at the Liang residence—
The Heavenly Dao Alliance’s forces had arrived.
In the main hall, Liang Tai stood pale-faced before the enforcers.
“Such a late visit… what’s the occasion?” he asked cautiously.
“Do you really need to ask?” Qin Lie replied coolly.
Liang Tai’s mouth twitched.
Was it because we interrupted Lu Ran’s meal? Or because we offended Ye Hongyi and the others?
He’d planned to flee Blackflame City immediately after the incident, but retribution had come far quicker than expected.
Clatter.
Qin Lie tossed several bloodstained communicators onto the floor.
Liang Tai’s pupils shrank to pinpricks as he stared at them in horror.
“These belonged to the three assassins you hired to kill Lu Ran,” Qin Lie said evenly. “My daughter, Qin Wuyao, was also present at the time. Anything to say for yourself?”
Liang Tai shook his head frantically.
“A misunderstanding! I don’t know any assassins! Why would I want Lu Ran dead?”
Qin Lie frowned. “Are you stupid? The call logs in these communicators are crystal clear—every message exchanged with you is there. The digital age is a beautiful thing. Evidence doesn’t lie.”
Liang Tai’s heart sank.
Gritting his teeth, he rasped, “Fine. I’ll take the fall. But my son had nothing to do with this. Your daughter being with Lu Ran was an accident. Take me if you must, but leave my boy out of it.”
At this point, all Liang Tai could hope for was to save his son.
But Qin Lie shook his head. “The communicators also contain seven messages from your son to one of the assassins. Five were inquiries about whether Lu Ran had been killed. The other two confirmed higher payment for quicker action.”
Liang Tai’s world crumbled.
Then Qin Lie leaned in, whispering into his ear:
“Let me make one thing clear—the real reason you’re being erased isn’t because of my daughter.”
“It’s because of Lu Ran.”
Liang Tai stiffened, but Qin Lie gave him no chance to react.
“Take them away,” he ordered.
At the same time, he glanced at his communicator.
A message from Yu Qingcang glowed on the screen—just two words:
“Wipe them.”
