Skills with no cooldown? I become the Undead Scourge! - Chapter 17
This was indeed Qin Lie’s first time meeting Lu Ran.
Though Lu Ran had been on the Heavenly Dao Alliance’s radar for three years at the academy due to his staggering 130-point spiritual power, Qin Lie had never directly interacted with or even seen him before.
Now, late at night, Qin Lie was caught off guard when Qin Wuyao suddenly brought Lu Ran home.
“Ah, so it’s you, Lu Ran. Please, have a seat,” Qin Lie said with a warm smile.
Across from them, Xu Jie glanced between Lu Ran and Qin Lie, puzzled.
The class emblem on Lu Ran’s chest was unmistakable—a Necromancer.
Qin Lie then explained, “Xu Jie, remember that student I mentioned two years ago? The one from Blackflame Academy with 130 spiritual power?”
Xu Jie froze.
“Of course,” he replied instinctively. “A spiritual power of 130 is exceptionally rare, even nationwide. If they awakened a class, they’d almost certainly—”
Mid-sentence, Xu Jie’s voice cut off.
His eyes widened as he stared at Lu Ran. “Don’t tell me… it’s him?”
Qin Lie shrugged and sighed. “Yes, it’s Lu Ran.”
Realizing his reaction might have been inappropriate, he quickly added, “Lu Ran, don’t misunderstand. There’s nothing wrong with being a Necromancer. It’s just… with 130 spiritual power, it feels a little mismatched.”
Lu Ran wasn’t bothered.
He understood their disappointment.
But before he could speak, Qin Wuyao cut in. “I brought Lu Ran here so you could see for yourselves. His 130 spiritual power isn’t wasted—it just didn’t manifest in his class.”
Qin Lie and Xu Jie exchanged confused glances, not quite following.
Qin Wuyao nudged Lu Ran with her elbow. “Go on, tell them.”
Lu Ran spoke without hesitation. “I want to join the Heavenly Dao Alliance.”
The two men nearly laughed.
Xu Jie shook his head. “I’m not from the Blackflame City branch, but the rules are the same everywhere. Admission is based on the comprehensive evaluation a month from now. You can’t join early.”
Qin Lie nodded. “The Alliance does have Necromancers, but they’re all high-level combat specialists with top-tier gear—and even then, there aren’t many. Right now, even if you wait for the evaluation, Necromancers have almost no chance of joining. But don’t lose heart. Once you reach higher levels—”
Lu Ran interrupted. “I’m different from other Necromancers. I believe I’m qualified to join the Heavenly Dao Alliance. Even if the rules prevent it now, I’m confident I’ll secure a spot in next month’s evaluation.”
His confidence made Qin Lie frown.
“You ranked first in yesterday’s rookie leaderboard, and your leveling speed is impressive,” Qin Lie said sternly. “But that alone isn’t enough. It’s only been one day.”
He even wondered if Lu Ran was being arrogant.
Lu Ran understood. Without knowing about his skills and the terrifying effects of his traits, no one would believe he deserved a place in the Alliance.
A fast start was surprising, but that was all.
It didn’t prove his combat ability.
Taking a deep breath, Lu Ran hesitated for a few seconds before clenching his teeth and raising his hand. The Frost Wolf Staff materialized in his grip.
Qin Lie and Xu Jie blinked. What was this kid doing?
Thud!
With a dull sound, two Skeleton Soldiers appeared.
The two men exchanged glances, then looked back at the skeletons.
…So what? That was just a Necromancer’s basic skill.
But then—
Thud! Thud! Thud!
One after another, Skeleton Soldiers poured out in rapid succession, as if Lu Ran had an endless supply!
In the blink of an eye, there were thirty or forty—and the number kept growing!
Qin Lie and Xu Jie stared in shock.
What the hell was this?!
Since when could Necromancers summon like this?!
“Lu Ran, you… what’s this…?” Qin Lie stammered.
As the office neared capacity, Xu Jie shouted, “Enough! Stop! No more!”
Lu Ran finally halted.
By then, the room was packed with over sixty Skeleton Soldiers.
The clattering of bones and rusted armor filled the air with chaotic noise.
“My skills have no cooldown,” Lu Ran explained calmly. “As long as I have mana, I can summon indefinitely. This applies to all my skills—summoning, control, offense, everything.”
“I was Level 8 yesterday. Today, I’m Level 10. I don’t have any experience-boosting gear, and no one carried me.”
“I soloed the Frostwolf Valley—normal difficulty yesterday, hard difficulty today.”
As Lu Ran spoke, Qin Lie and Xu Jie’s minds reeled.
No cooldowns…
And not just for one skill—all of them!
They’d never heard of such a thing!
If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, they wouldn’t have believed it.
But if Lu Ran was telling the truth…
Both men immediately grasped the terrifying implications.
“So… in the late game, you could summon an endless number of Abyssal Bone Dragons?” Xu Jie asked.
“Based on how it works now, yes,” Lu Ran confirmed.
Then, deciding to lay all his cards on the table, Lu Ran openly shared his skill panel—and the trait panel beneath it.
“My skills are the same as any other Necromancer’s. My stats are normal too. But I have an extra trait panel. I unlock a new trait every five levels. Including the one I got at Level 0, I now have three.”
Qin Lie and Xu Jie glanced at the skill panel. Indeed, it was standard fare for a Necromancer.
But the traits below nearly made them pass out.
[Trait: Divine Borrowing]
Effect: All skills have no cooldown.
[Trait: Damage Transference]
Effect: 100% of damage taken is transferred to summoned units.
[Trait: Boundless Reach]
Effect: From the moment this trait is unlocked, for every enemy killed, the range of all skills increases by 1 meter. No upper limit. (Current bonus: 304 meters.)
Each of the three traits was absurdly overpowered.
“No cooldowns… really none!”
“You transfer all damage to your summons? And you can summon infinitely? So you’re practically unkillable?!”
“And your skill range scales infinitely? It’s already at 304 meters?!”
Qin Lie and Xu Jie blurted out in unison.
Qin Wuyao finally understood why Lu Ran hadn’t taken any damage during the ambush earlier. As long as he had Skeleton Soldiers, he was effectively immortal!
“Wait… let me process this. Just… give me a second…” Qin Lie raised a trembling hand, his voice shaky.
His brain was overloaded with information.
