Reborn in the 80s: My Whole Family Secretly Hears My Thoughts and Goes Wild with Success! - Chapter 63
After breakfast, Shen Zhiqiu handed Yaya over to Wan Jiayin. “Mom, I’m sorry to trouble you. You’ve been working so hard lately.”
“Not at all. Yaya is well-behaved and easy to take care of, and Jiusi helps too.”
Wan Jiayin patted Shen Zhiqiu’s hand and gently reminded her, “Zhiqiu, do what you need to do, but make sure to stay safe.”
“If anything feels overwhelming, come home and talk to us. We’re family.”
Shen Zhiqiu nodded. “I will, Mom.”
“Oh, this is for Xiaomei.”
Wan Jiayin took out two boxes of chocolates from the cabinet. “You mentioned she loves these, so I asked your sister to buy them.”
“Old Dong refuses to accept anything from us, and your father and I feel bad about it.”
“Actually, I already prepared something for Xiaomei too. Mind if I add these in, Mom?”
Shen Zhiqiu pulled out a large bag of snacks from her purse—milk candies, dried fruit, and butter cookies.
“Of course, go ahead. You’ve thought of everything.”
“Xiaomei’s still young—she loves these kinds of treats.”
Shen Zhiqiu smiled as she took the chocolates from Wan Jiayin and tucked them into her bag.
Thinking about how happy Dong Xiaomei would be when she received them, she couldn’t help but grin.
“Only fifteen—still just a kid.”
Wan Jiayin lifted Yaya from the stroller, gently waving the baby’s little arm toward Shen Zhiqiu. “Come on, Yaya, say goodbye to Mommy.”
Yaya clenched her tiny fist and waved vigorously, her big round eyes filled with urgency.
[Is Mommy going to save Auntie Xiaomei?]
[Auntie Xiaomei and Grandpa Dong are in danger!]
[Really bad people broke into Grandpa Dong and Auntie Xiaomei’s house! They killed Grandpa Dong and hurt Auntie Xiaomei—they killed her too!]
Shen Zhiqiu’s expression shifted rapidly through several emotions. She leaned down and kissed Yaya’s forehead. “Goodbye, Yaya. Be good for Grandma.”
“Mom, I’m heading out.”
Grabbing her bag, Shen Zhiqiu hurried out the door.
Yue Mingli and Meng Fang emerged from the dining room, watching as Shen Zhiqiu rode off on her bicycle. Yue Mingli frowned. “Zhiqiu isn’t even going to work at the cultural troupe today. Why is she in such a rush?”
“No idea.”
Noticing that Meng Fang had been rubbing her waist all morning, Yue Mingli wrapped an arm around her and whispered, “Was I too rough last night?”
Meng Fang blushed and shot him a glare, while Yue Mingli grinned smugly.
“Come on, I’ll walk you out.”
Arm in arm, they passed Wan Jiayin and Yaya, exchanging quick greetings.
“Mom, we’re off too.”
“Bye, Yaya! Second Uncle will play with you tonight, okay?”
“What’s wrong with Yaya?”
Meng Fang noticed Yaya’s pouty lips and teary eyes, her heart aching at the sight. She quickly took the baby into her arms, soothing her gently. “Sweetheart, are you sad because Mommy left? She’ll be back by noon, okay?”
“I don’t think Yaya’s upset about Zhiqiu—she’s gonna miss me.”
Yue Mingli pointed at himself, earning an eye roll from Meng Fang. “Oh, please. You wish.”
“Look for yourself.”
Yue Mingli gestured toward Yaya, who immediately reached out for him.
“…Huh. You’re right.”
Yue Mingli took Yaya from Meng Fang, his posture stiff and awkward.
Meng Fang poked Yaya’s little cheek, pretending to pout. “Yaya doesn’t even care about Second Auntie? After all the love I’ve given you? Your second uncle’s always too busy to even be home! Look how terrible he is at holding you.”
[Second Uncle holds me so uncomfortably—he’s even clumsier than Daddy! But Second Auntie has a baby in her belly now, so she can’t get tired.]
[Poor baby, poor Second Uncle and Second Auntie! Sigh—]
[Why does such a good uncle have to get hurt? Why does such a kind auntie lose her baby and never have another one?]
[It’s all because of those two evil men! They killed Grandpa Dong and Auntie Xiaomei, then stabbed Second Uncle and scared Second Auntie so badly she lost the baby… Waaah—]
She remembered this day clearly from her past life.
Second Uncle and his team had tracked down the Liu brothers—Liu Da and Liu Gui—responsible for three murders. They chased them into a wooded area.
The Liu brothers weren’t just brutal—they were cunning, especially the older one, Liu Da, who had terrifying counter-surveillance skills.
They ambushed the officers from the trees, injuring several, including Second Uncle, who was pinned down and stabbed three times.
Afterward, the brothers fled to the village where Xiaomei lived.
Grandpa Dong and Xiaomei lived on the outskirts, isolated and defenseless against the two ruthless killers. The outcome was inevitable.
Though, five years later, Second Uncle finally brought them to justice, the damage was irreversible.
Grandpa Dong and Xiaomei were gone. Second Uncle’s injuries left him on medication for life.
And Second Auntie, after losing the baby and learning she could never conceive again, spiraled into despair—clutching a doll as if it were her child, until one day, she no longer even recognized Second Uncle.
Thinking of all this, Yaya whimpered miserably.
Yue Mingli snapped out of his daze, clumsily trying to soothe her. “Don’t cry, Yaya, don’t cry!”
He glanced at Meng Fang, who looked just as stunned.
Meng Fang pinched Yue Mingli’s arm hard, making him yelp.
Not a dream?!
Trembling, she pressed a hand to her abdomen. Was she really pregnant? Was there a child growing there?
Yue Mingli stared at her belly too, their eyes meeting in shared disbelief and joy.
“A-Li, I…”
Yue Mingli squeezed her hand tightly. “Yeah.”
But then Meng Fang remembered Yue Mingli’s impending injury and gripped his arm in panic. “A-Li!”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be prepared.”
Yue Mingli escorted Meng Fang to the hospital and stayed with her as she got tested.
The results came back quickly—a faint positive. It wasn’t definitive yet, but Meng Fang, as an obstetrician, knew that unless there were other health issues, this almost certainly meant she was pregnant.
Clutching the report, she threw herself into Yue Mingli’s arms, tears of happiness streaming down her face.
Yue Mingli was overjoyed too, cupping her face gently and kissing her forehead. “Fang’er, you’re going to be a mom. I’m going to be a dad!”
“You have to be careful! Promise me—no matter what, don’t get hurt!”
Meng Fang clung to his hand desperately. “A-Li, for me, for our baby—swear you’ll come back safe!”
“Mission accepted!” Yue Mingli straightened his uniform, saluting her with solemn determination.
Then he turned away—his expression hardening into steel.
