Reborn in the 80s: My Whole Family Secretly Hears My Thoughts and Goes Wild with Success! - Chapter 21
Everyone gathered around, discussing the note pasted on the wall.
“Those with a clear conscience need not fear ghosts knocking at midnight. Someone, beware—the ghosts may come for you at night. What does this mean?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Someone must’ve done something shameful.”
“What shameful thing? And why post it here? Did someone among us do something wrong?”
“Nothing’s happened here recently, except…”
Just as the person was about to speak, they caught sight of Lu Shuangshuang entering out of the corner of their eye. They immediately shut their mouth and slipped into a cubicle.
Their reaction instantly reminded everyone of how Lu Shuangshuang had pushed Shen Zhiqiu, causing her to go into premature labor.
And yesterday, instead of apologizing, Lu Shuangshuang had gone to see Shen Zhiqiu and stirred up trouble again.
What’s she trying to do? Even a fool knows that a new mother must avoid stress during her postpartum recovery. Yet Lu Shuangshuang deliberately provoked her—even tried to hit her! No wonder someone as gentle as Shen Zhiqiu had lost her temper.
After exchanging knowing glances and gossiping among themselves, the crowd dispersed. Lu Shuangshuang eyed them suspiciously, muttering, “What’s going on? Why is everyone acting so weird?”
“Nothing, nothing.”
“How strange.”
Noticing the note on the wall, Lu Shuangshuang stepped closer. “Hey, what’s this?”
As she read the message aloud, a sense of unease crept over her—though she couldn’t pinpoint why.
“What nonsense is this? Who put it up?”
She tore the note off, crumpled it, and threw it into the trash.
The others exchanged glances but quickly scattered, afraid Lu Shuangshuang might take her anger out on them.
…
The next morning, the note reappeared—same spot, same message.
By now, Lu Shuangshuang had learned from Shen Liya that the note was directed at her.
Furious, she ripped it down again, shredding it to pieces.
“Who’s doing this? Who posted this?!”
Her sharp gaze swept over everyone in the room. They all shook their heads vigorously, waving their hands. “Not me!”
“I’ll find out who’s behind this—and they’ll regret it!” Lu Shuangshuang ground her teeth and stomped her foot.
On the third day, the same thing happened again. Lu Shuangshuang was nearly driven mad.
“Who is it?! Who’s doing this?! If you’ve got the guts, face me directly! Hiding like this is pathetic!”
When Troupe Leader Wu Qingyun heard about the incident, she rushed over.
Shen Liya stood beside Lu Shuangshuang, who was red-eyed with rage.
“Leader, I think… this might have something to do with my sister,” Shen Liya said hesitantly, biting her lip. “She told me she hates Shuangshuang and wants her expelled from the troupe.”
“And…”
“And what?” Wu Qingyun asked sternly.
“She also said… you’re biased, Leader. That you’re protecting Shuangshuang.”
Shen Liya stole a glance at Wu Qingyun’s face but couldn’t read her expression. “Leader, I’m sure my sister didn’t mean it.”
“Oh, she meant it!”
Lu Shuangshuang shoved Shen Liya away and stormed forward. “I’m going to confront Shen Zhiqiu right now—she’s asking for a beating!”
“Lu Shuangshuang! Haven’t you caused enough trouble?!” Wu Qingyun blocked her path, scolding sharply.
“Leader, I visited Shen Zhiqiu the other day. She and the baby were perfectly fine! And yet she slapped me!” Lu Shuangshuang jabbed a finger at her own chest. “I’ve already been punished—what more does she want?!”
“Does she think she can bully me just because she married Yue Mingyuan? Does she really believe she can force me out of the troupe?!”
“My sister really is too much,” Shen Liya chimed in, feigning concern. “The troupe has already settled the matter—why can’t she let it go? She’s just causing trouble for you, Leader.”
Wu Qingyun shot Shen Liya a cool glance. Shen Liya put on a sweet, obedient smile and volunteered, “Leader, should I go talk to my sister? Ask her what she really wants?”
“Leader, I demand a face-to-face confrontation with Shen Zhiqiu!” Lu Shuangshuang clenched her fists, her voice rising. “Even if the troupe expels me today, I’m going!”
Wu Qingyun sighed, seeing no way to dissuade the stubborn girl. Worried she might escalate things further, she relented. “Fine. I’ll go with you.”
“Liya, come on!” Lu Shuangshuang grabbed Shen Liya’s arm, dragging her along.
…
When the three arrived at the hospital room, Shen Zhiqiu was talking softly to her baby, Ya-Ya.
She had her knees bent, holding the baby upright against her legs, her hands protectively cradling the little one.
Sunlight streamed in, casting a soft glow around her—almost divine in its serenity.
Wu Qingyun’s eyes flickered with admiration. She had recruited Shen Zhiqiu not just for her talent but also for her striking beauty.
Before, though, Shen Zhiqiu had been pretty yet dull—lacking vitality, like an unpolished gem.
Now, after giving birth, she seemed to have shed that dullness, shining brilliantly like a pearl wiped clean of dust.
“Leader.”
Hearing the voice, Shen Zhiqiu turned and saw Wu Qingyun, followed by Lu Shuangshuang and Shen Liya. She wasn’t surprised.
The moment she had asked Dong Xiaomei to post those notes, she knew these three would come—and that was exactly what she wanted.
“Shen Zhiqiu, was it you who put those notes in the bathroom?!” Lu Shuangshuang charged forward accusingly.
Calmly, Shen Zhiqiu replied, “No.”
“If not you, then who? I know it was you!” Lu Shuangshuang spat. “No one else would do something so despicable, so shameless!”
“Lu Shuangshuang!” Wu Qingyun snapped, but it was too late.
Several people had just entered—and heard every word.
“Shuangshuang?”
Feng Wan strode forward, frowning as she pulled Lu Shuangshuang around to face her. “What were you just shouting?”
“A-Auntie, I wasn’t shouting,” Lu Shuangshuang stammered, her earlier bravado vanishing. She had always been terrified of her strict aunt.
“Liya, why are you here?” Tan Yingjun asked Shen Liya, her tone displeased.
Shen Liya lowered her head, avoiding her mother-in-law’s gaze. “I came with the Leader and Shuangshuang.”
“Zhiqiu, what’s going on?” Wan Jiayin moved to Shen Zhiqiu’s side, placing a protective arm around her shoulders. Her sharp gaze swept over Wu Qingyun, Shen Liya, and finally Lu Shuangshuang.
The Yue family had investigated the incident thoroughly after Shen Zhiqiu’s premature delivery.
They were a peaceful family—but that didn’t mean they were pushovers.
Lu Shuangshuang’s actions should have gotten her transferred to the remote Tibetan region. If not for Feng Wan’s intervention, she would’ve been long gone.
“Mom, I’m not sure what’s happening either,” Shen Zhiqiu said mildly. “Lu Shuangshuang burst in here accusing me, and you heard what she said.”
“Leader Wu, perhaps you should explain.”
