Reborn in the 80s: My Whole Family Secretly Hears My Thoughts and Goes Wild with Success! - Chapter 148
Yue Mingyuan stood by the sentry post, gazing into the distance. He saw a car approaching from afar and stopping about ten meters from the post.
He stepped forward and opened the car door to see Ye Zhiqiu smiling at him. Unconsciously, Yue Mingyuan’s gaze softened.
Ye Zhiqiu got out of the car holding Yaya. “Mingyuan.”
“Zhiqiu, was the journey smooth?”
“Smooth.” Ye Zhiqiu placed Yaya into Yue Mingyuan’s arms. “Yaya fell asleep.”
Looking at the sleeping Yaya, Yue Mingyuan suppressed his inner excitement and only gently stroked Yaya’s little cheek.
As if sensing it, Yaya’s small hand grabbed Yue Mingyuan’s finger, and she let out a soft giggle.
“Yaya knows it’s you.” Ye Zhiqiu’s lips curved into a smile too.
“Come on, let’s go inside.” Yue Mingyuan held Yaya with one arm and wrapped the other around Ye Zhiqiu’s shoulders.
“Ahem.” Ye Jiawen made a sound. “Have you two forgotten about me?”
“Jiawen, sis.” Yue Mingyuan greeted Ye Jiawen somewhat apologetically; he really had forgotten for a moment. His eyes had only been on Ye Zhiqiu and Yaya.
Ye Zhiqiu, her face flushed, reached for the things in Ye Jiawen’s hands. “Jiawen, let me help you with those.”
“No need, it’s just this little bit, and it’s not heavy. I can manage,” Ye Jiawen said, evading Ye Zhiqiu’s outstretched hand. She gestured with her chin towards Yue Mingyuan. “You three rarely get to be together as a family. Go on ahead.”
Due to the sensitive nature of the location, even Yue Guohuai’s car couldn’t enter Yue Mingyuan’s area freely and had to stop outside the sentry post.
Yue Mingyuan had his own vehicle parked nearby. After settling Ye Zhiqiu and Yaya inside, he quickly turned back to take the items from Ye Jiawen’s hands.
The barracks were located deep inside, and the route passed by the training ground.
Curious, Ye Jiawen looked over and saw a group of men, bare-chested, formed in a circle.
Inside the circle, two men were wrestling. One of them was Ling Hang.
She watched as Ling Hang nimbly dodged a man much larger than himself, maneuvered behind him, and executed a perfect shoulder throw.
The surrounding men clapped and cheered. Ling Hang wiped sweat from his brow, grinned, and waved at them. “Next!”
“Hey, isn’t that the Team Leader? Where did he go?” someone muttered upon noticing Yue Mingyuan’s car.
Hearing this, Ling Hang turned to look and just happened to catch a fleeting glimpse of Ye Jiawen in the back seat.
His mind went completely blank for a second. The next moment, he almost sprinted after Yue Mingyuan’s car.
But he quickly regained his composure. Only after arranging the training matters did he leave.
First, he went to take a shower and change into clean clothes. As he approached the barracks, he could hear Ye Jiawen’s voice from afar: “Oh, Yaya’s awake!”
Ling Hang couldn’t help but quicken his pace. But upon reaching the door, he hesitated to barge in, taking a deep breath to prepare himself.
Just as he inhaled, the door suddenly swung open, and Ye Jiawen, not looking, bumped right into his chest.
“Ouch!” Ye Jiawen covered her nose.
Ling Hang was flustered. “Are you okay?”
“What were you standing there for? And you’re so hard!” Ye Jiawen looked up, glaring at Ling Hang.
Her nose, sore from the impact, ached sharply, making her eyes water. She looked quite pitiful.
Ling Hang felt as if his heart had been gently brushed by a feather—an intensely itchy sensation. He grabbed Ye Jiawen’s hand. “Come on, I’ll take you to see Old Liu.” Old Liu was their unit’s medic.
“I’m not going!” Ye Jiawen shook off Ling Hang’s hand and turned back into the room.
Ye Zhiqiu and Yue Mingyuan exchanged a glance; both could see there was something brewing between Ye Jiawen and Ling Hang.
“Jiawen, here, use a warm compress.” Ye Zhiqiu soaked a towel in hot water, wrung it out, and handed it to Ye Jiawen.
Ye Jiawen pressed it to her nose but still found time to shoot another glare at Ling Hang. “You still haven’t said what you were doing standing at the door!”
Ling Hang pointed to a wooden desk inside. “This is also my office.”
“Training over?” Yue Mingyuan asked Ling Hang.
Ling Hang replied a bit guiltily, “Yeah, it’s over.”
Yue Mingyuan didn’t expose him. He handed their lunch boxes to Ling Hang. “There’s braised pork today. Ask Uncle Zhang to give us extra.”
“I’ll go right now.”
After Ling Hang left, Ye Jiawen’s frantically beating heart slowly calmed down.
“Feeling better?” Ye Zhiqiu checked Ye Jiawen’s nose.
Ye Jiawen handed the towel back to Ye Zhiqiu. “It’s fine.”
“Yaya, are you hungry?” Yue Mingyuan asked Yaya.
Yaya waved her little fist, indicating she was hungry.
Yue Mingyuan prepared a bottle of formula for Yaya. After she finished it, Ling Hang returned with the food.
The four of them ate simply. Afterwards, Yue Mingyuan signaled to Ling Hang with his eyes. “Xiao Hang, why don’t you take Jiawen to see the back hill?”
Ling Hang looked at Ye Jiawen full of anticipation. “Jiawen, want to go? The wildflowers are blooming over there, and there’s a small stream.”
“Let’s go.” Ye Jiawen didn’t play coy either. She stood up and walked straight out.
Having dispatched the two potential third wheels, Yue Mingyuan turned to look at Ye Zhiqiu. Both their heartbeats quickened involuntarily.
Yaya, knowing her parents needed to talk, thoughtfully closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
“Zhiqiu, would you like some water?”
“Okay.”
Yue Mingyuan handed her his cup. Ye Zhiqiu took only a small sip.
Both of them had so much they wanted to say, but neither knew how to begin.
“You…”
“You…”
They spoke simultaneously, which reminded them of their phone call that had been the same way. They couldn’t help but smile at each other.
“Mingyuan, I have a question for you.”
Clarifying things with Yue Mingyuan was the main reason for Ye Zhiqiu’s visit.
She wasn’t someone who liked ambiguity, nor did she want a marriage based solely on convenience, without affection.
“Zhiqiu, what is it?”
Ye Zhiqiu set the cup aside and looked directly into Yue Mingyuan’s eyes. “Mingyuan, who is the girl you like?”
“I’m sorry… Back at the hospital, when Chen Can came and caused that scene—the time you hit him—I overheard your conversation with Ling Hang.”
“I’ve fallen for you. I tried not to care, but I can’t help it. If you still have feelings for that other girl, then I…”
Yue Mingyuan grabbed Ye Zhiqiu’s hand. “That girl is you!”
“Zhiqiu, it’s always been you. Only you.”
“I fell for you the first time I saw you. It was love at first sight. But you were with Chen Can back then, so I kept my feelings to myself.”
“I wanted to marry you because I love you. I want to be with you. There’s no other reason.”
For a moment, they both felt like they were dreaming.
[Yay! Dad and Mom have finally confessed their feelings to each other!]
[Silly Dad, you did pretty well this time. But Mom did even better—she’s so cool!]
[Silly Dad, what are you still standing there for? Shouldn’t you be hugging Mom right now?]
Both Yue Mingyuan and Ye Zhiqiu heard Yaya’s inner thoughts simultaneously. They couldn’t stop their faces from turning red.
“Zhiqiu.”
Yue Mingyuan tentatively reached out. Seeing that Ye Zhiqiu didn’t pull away or get angry, but instead had an encouraging look in her eyes, he grew bold and pulled her into an embrace.
Ye Zhiqiu hugged him back.
For a long time, neither could calm the excitement stirring in their hearts.
