Reborn in the 80s: My Whole Family Secretly Hears My Thoughts and Goes Wild with Success! - Chapter 131
“Lu Shuangshuang, you’re such a bully!”
Kang Zhixin caught sight of Wu Qingyun’s figure outside the window. She crouched down, wrapped her arms around herself, and burst into loud, exaggerated sobs, deliberately crying louder and louder.
“What’s going on now?”
Wu Qingyun came every morning to check on their training. She had heard the arguing from a distance, and it had drawn a crowd of onlookers.
“Captain.” Kang Zhixin stood up, her face streaked with tears, weeping too hard to speak.
Meanwhile, Lu Shuangshuang stood by as if nothing had happened.
Wu Qingyun’s eyes moved between the two. She had known something like this would happen today.
Neither of them was exactly peaceful; each was more dramatic than the other.
“Come to my office.”
After calling them into her office, Wu Qingyun didn’t immediately question them. Instead, she busied herself with paperwork.
She observed their reactions discreetly. Kang Zhixin was her usual self, but Lu Shuangshuang seemed much more composed.
Wu Qingyun already knew that Lu Shuangshuang had been the first to arrive at the training hall today. She wondered if this was genuine growth after the incidents with Shen Liya and Kang Zhixin, or just another short-lived burst of emotion.
Since Wu Qingyun remained silent, Kang Zhixin didn’t dare speak either. She hung her head, picking at her nails.
Lu Shuangshuang, on the other hand, was mentally rehearsing dance moves.
“Well?” Wu Qingyun stood up, walked to her desk, crossed her arms, and nodded at Lu Shuangshuang and Kang Zhixin. “Which of you wants to explain first?”
Lu Shuangshuang spoke first. “Captain, I have nothing to say.”
“Captain, I…” Kang Zhixin bit her lower lip. “I also have nothing to say.”
She knew that after the previous incident, the captain’s opinion of her had soured.
If she really made the captain angry, she might not be allowed to perform.
Her older sister had repeatedly warned her to be on her best behavior these next few months.
Whether she could marry into that prestigious family depended on her performance in the upcoming important shows.
“If neither of you has anything to say, then what were you arguing about in the training hall? Do you think this is a marketplace?”
Wu Qingyun slammed her hand on the desk. Kang Zhixin flinched and pleaded in a trembling voice, “Captain, I know I was wrong. Please don’t be angry.”
“Kang Zhixin, if you really knew you were wrong, you wouldn’t keep causing trouble.”
Kang Zhixin shook her head vehemently, feeling wronged. “Captain, it wasn’t me! It was Lu Shuangshuang, she—”
“What did Lu Shuangshuang do?”
Kang Zhixin glared at Lu Shuangshuang with red-rimmed eyes. “Lu Shuangshuang called me a desperate beggar! She said I was money-crazy!”
“Lu Shuangshuang, is this true?” Wu Qingyun turned to her.
Lu Shuangshuang admitted readily. “Yes.”
“Why would you say that to Kang Zhixin?”
“She deserved it.”
Seizing the opportunity, Lu Shuangshuang added, “Captain, I request a room change. If I continue sharing a room with Kang Zhixin, we’ll just keep clashing.”
“The only available spot is in Dong Xiaomei’s room. Are you willing to move there?”
Even if Lu Shuangshuang hadn’t asked, Wu Qingyun had already planned to arrange this.
“Yes. Thank you, Captain.”
Lu Shuangshuang brought her heels together and saluted Wu Qingyun. “Captain, arguing in the training hall disrupted practice. I am willing to accept punishment.”
Wu Qingyun raised an eyebrow, surprised. She saw a shadow of Shen Zhiqiu in Lu Shuangshuang.
First Shen Zhiqiu changed, and now Lu Shuangshuang? What was happening to everyone?
“Captain, I’m also willing to accept punishment.” Kang Zhixin quickly chimed in, not wanting Lu Shuangshuang to steal the spotlight.
“Then both of you will clean and tidy the training hall for one week. If you argue during that time, another week will be added.”
“Yes,” Lu Shuangshuang and Kang Zhixin replied in unison.
After leaving the office, they walked back together. Kang Zhixin glared at Lu Shuangshuang the entire way.
Unable to contain her anger, she grabbed Lu Shuangshuang’s arm. “Lu Shuangshuang, you owe me an apology!”
“Kang Zhixin, are you insane?” Lu Shuangshuang shook her off.
“See? You’re insulting me again! Apologize! Or I won’t let you leave!” Kang Zhixin spread her arms, blocking the path. She lifted her chin defiantly, determined not to back down.
“Kang Zhixin, if you really don’t want to stay in this performance troupe, just apply for discharge yourself. Stop messing with me!”
“Lu Shuangshuang, what do you mean by that?” A flicker of panic crossed Kang Zhixin’s face.
“I’ve let the past slide, but if you bother me again, don’t blame me for what happens. I have plenty of ways to get you kicked out.”
“Lu Shuangshuang, how dare you!”
“Don’t believe me? Just try it!”
Lu Shuangshuang pushed Kang Zhixin aside and strode quickly toward the rehearsal hall.
On her way, a guard ran over and called out to her, “Lu Shuangshuang, someone’s here to see you at the gate.”
Lu Shuangshuang had expected Sun Lanzhi to come, but not this soon.
“Shuangshuang.”
As soon as Sun Lanzhi saw her, she stepped forward to affectionately take Lu Shuangshuang’s hand.
Lu Shuangshuang tucked her hands behind her back and took two steps back. “Auntie Sun, what brings you here? If it’s about the blind date, don’t bother. I made myself very clear on the phone yesterday.”
“Shuangshuang, did your aunt say something to you?”
After hanging up yesterday, Sun Lanzhi had grown increasingly uneasy, sensing that Lu Shuangshuang had changed.
Now, seeing her in person, it was confirmed.
Lu Shuangshuang avoided Sun Lanzhi’s probing gaze. “No.”
“Sigh— Ever since your aunt took you away, I knew this day would come. I knew you’d drift apart from me.”
“I just didn’t expect it to happen so soon.”
“Shuangshuang, we’re not related by blood. I’m not as close to you as your aunt is. But I raised you from childhood, fed you well, clothed you well, and treated you as my own. I truly loved you like a daughter.”
“I’m not here to talk about the blind date. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. It’s not important.”
“I just heard something off in your voice on the phone yesterday, so I rushed over to check on you.”
“Now that I see you’re okay, I can rest easy.”
As she spoke, Sun Lanzhi watched Lu Shuangshuang’s expression closely. Noting her cold, distant, and slightly impatient demeanor, she couldn’t help but wonder if this was really the same Lu Shuangshuang.
“Thank you, Auntie Sun.”
“I have things to do, so I’ll head back now.”
“Shuangshuang, wait.”
Still unwilling to give up, Sun Lanzhi called out to her. “Shuangshuang, did something happen?”
“Auntie Sun, what do you think could have happened?”
“You make it sound like I want something to happen to you. I’m just worried about you.”
“Auntie Sun, you should worry about Lu Xu instead. There’s no need to worry about me.”
She genuinely wished Sun Lanzhi would stop “worrying” about her. That kind of worry frightened her.
“Shuangshuang, how can you say that? Even if you don’t see me as your mother, I still see you as my child. How could I not worry about you?”
“In my heart, you and Lu Xu are exactly the same.”
