Reborn in the 80s: My Whole Family Secretly Hears My Thoughts and Goes Wild with Success! - Chapter 111
Just after lunch, He Weijun called Shen Zhiqiu to say he’d arranged a meeting with his friend for that evening after work at his home.
Shen Zhiqiu immediately shared the good news with Ye Yunlin, who prepared some mountain delicacies and brought along a bag of Lushan milk powder produced by their dairy factory. At dusk, he accompanied Shen Zhiqiu to He Weijun’s house.
“Uncle He.”
He Weijun was busy in the kitchen when Shen Zhiqiu handed him the roasted chicken and braised meat she’d bought on the way. Turning her head, she called out to Ye Yunlin, “Second Uncle.”
She had already explained to He Weijun beforehand that it wasn’t her but Ye Yunlin who needed advice.
When He Weijun stepped out of the kitchen and came face-to-face with Ye Yunlin, both men froze in shock before pointing at each other in disbelief:
“Ye Yunlin?!”
“He Weijun?!”
“Second Uncle, Uncle He, you know each other?” Shen Zhiqiu looked back and forth between them, astonished by the coincidence.
“Of course we do! We were neighbors and classmates,” Ye Yunlin laughed heartily, stepping forward to sling an arm over He Weijun’s shoulder. “Zhiqiu, I had no idea the ‘Uncle He’ you mentioned was this guy!”
“Is Zhiqiu Xiaoshuang’s daughter?” He Weijun turned to ask Ye Yunlin.
“Yes.”
“No wonder she looks so familiar.”
He Weijun reminisced with a sigh. “My family moved away when Xiaoshuang was just three or four years old. Now her daughter’s all grown up—time really flies.”
“You haven’t changed much.”
“Neither have you.” He Weijun gestured for Ye Yunlin and Shen Zhiqiu to follow him. “Come on, let’s sit inside.”
Once seated, Ye Yunlin glanced around and immediately noticed He Weijun lived alone. Unable to hold back, he asked, “Weijun, where’s your wife?”
“Second Uncle.” Shen Zhiqiu gently tugged at Ye Yunlin’s sleeve under the table, giving him a warning look.
Since she hadn’t known He Weijun and Ye Yunlin were acquainted, she hadn’t shared He Weijun’s personal circumstances with him.
“She passed away,” He Weijun admitted with a bitter smile. “My son went missing too, but I found him again today.”
Ye Yunlin frowned and turned to Shen Zhiqiu. “Zhiqiu, don’t tell me your Uncle He’s son is Xiaoxiang?”
“Second Uncle, you figured it out?”
Shen Zhiqiu hadn’t expected Ye Yunlin’s sharp perception, but she hadn’t planned to hide it from him either. After all, the truth about Shen Xiang not being Shen Daqiang’s biological son would come out sooner or later.
“Xiaoxiang looks so much like your Uncle He—how could I not notice? I kept thinking he looked familiar, and nothing like Shen Daqiang.”
“Zhiqiu, what exactly happened here?”
Shen Zhiqiu glanced at He Weijun for permission before explaining everything to Ye Yunlin.
Ye Yunlin slammed the table in fury. “That Wang Fengqin has gone too far! How dare she commit such a despicable crime—stealing someone else’s child!”
From Shen Zhiqiu’s account, He Weijun also learned about her relationship with Wang Fengqin and their mutual hostility.
“Weijun, you can’t let that woman get away with this!”
He Weijun’s expression darkened. “Yunlin, she destroyed my family. I won’t let her off, but I haven’t figured out how to make her pay yet.”
Shen Zhiqiu spoke coldly, “Uncle He, the best way to deal with people like her is to ensure they face justice for their crimes. What she did is illegal—let the law punish her.”
He Weijun frowned. “The law?”
“Uncle He, kidnapping is a crime. You can report it to the police.”
“The hospital has medical records proving she and Aunt Gao Xiu gave birth on the same day—Wang Fengqin had a stillborn girl, while Aunt Gao Xiu had a healthy baby. They were discharged together, and then your son went missing. Now that you’ve found Shen Xiang, this is enough evidence to prove Wang Fengqin stole him.”
“All she wants is to live out her days in comfort, but her crimes are enough to keep her locked up for life. For someone like her, that’s the harshest punishment.”
“She’s not worth our time, and certainly not worth staining our hands over.”
“You’re right, Zhiqiu.”
He Weijun turned to look at Gao Xiu’s portrait on the table. “I’ll go to the police station tomorrow.”
Just then, a bicycle bell rang outside. He Weijun stood up and glanced out the window before stepping out. “My friend’s here.”
“Lao He, what’s the occasion for inviting me over for drinks today?”
The visitor parked his bike and took two jars from the handlebars, sniffing the air with bright eyes. “Hmm—Jiudaokou’s roasted chicken and Liu Laoer’s braised meat!”
“Am I dreaming? Is the sun just rising?”
He glanced at the setting sun in the west before turning back to He Weijun with a teasing grin. “Or is today some special day? Since when did you, the ultimate penny-pincher, become so generous?”
“The chicken and meat were bought by others. All I’ve got here are smashed cucumbers and peanuts.”
Ye Yunlin and Shen Zhiqiu walked out of the house, and He Weijun introduced them. “Yunlin, Zhiqiu, this is my good friend Hou Haihong.”
“Haihong, this is my childhood friend Ye Yunlin and his niece Shen Zhiqiu.”
“Professor Hou, it’s an honor.” Ye Yunlin stepped forward and extended his hand.
But Hou Haihong’s gaze was fixed on Shen Zhiqiu. He lifted his chin, his expression cold and haughty. “Are you the Shen Zhiqiu who married into a wealthy family and disowned her parents?”
“Professor Hou, what do you mean by that?” Ye Yunlin withdrew his hand and shielded Shen Zhiqiu, glaring at Hou Haihong.
“Second Uncle, Professor Hou must have read the report in National Capital News and misunderstood.”
Shen Zhiqiu gently pulled Ye Yunlin aside and met Hou Haihong’s gaze steadily. “Professor Hou, I am Shen Zhiqiu, but I never married into a wealthy family or disowned my parents.”
“The National Capital News report was false. I hope you won’t believe it.”
“You’re saying National Capital News published false information? How is that possible?”
Hou Haihong found this absurd. The editor-in-chief of National Capital News was his elder brother, Hou Haihua, who placed the highest importance on journalistic integrity.
“Professor Hou, the anonymous source behind the report about my family in National Capital News is actually a reporter from National Capital Evening News. He wrote those lies out of spite after a dispute with a colleague.”
“I can provide evidence to prove my innocence and everything I’ve said.”
“Haihong, take a look at this.”
He Weijun happened to have a copy of National Capital Evening News at home. He retrieved the previous reports about Shen Zhiqiu and handed them to Hou Haihong. After reading them, Hou Haihong’s expression shifted several times.
Without seeing the Evening News reports, it would have been easy to believe the National Capital News version.
But after comparing the two, the difference was stark—one was thorough and factual, while the other was riddled with personal bias.
I’ll have to inform my brother about this when I get back.
