Reborn in Each Other’s Bodies: A Mother and Daughter’s Deadly Revenge - Chapter 35
Huang Yaning avoided looking at Old Man Feng, shrinking her neck and gazing pitifully at the village chief with her big, round eyes.
“Grandpa Chief, I don’t dare go home. I’m scared Grandma, Auntie, and Dad will beat me to death—”
“Can you please send someone to take me to the capital to find my mother? She definitely wouldn’t abandon me—”
Who could have guessed that inside this six-year-old girl’s body was a mature soul? And not just any mature soul—but a masterful actress?
No one could have imagined it, so all the villagers glared furiously at the last remaining Feng family member at the door—Old Man Feng.
“The Feng family is truly heartless! How could they treat their own granddaughter like this?”
“That family torments their granddaughter so badly—who would dare marry their daughter into such a household? What if their daughter-in-law gives birth to a girl? Who knows if the poor child would even survive?”
The villagers whispered among themselves.
The Feng family’s reputation in Taohua Village had never been stellar, but it hadn’t been outright terrible—until now. Whatever little standing they had left had been completely destroyed in just the past few days.
“Liu Ya, stop talking nonsense! Grandpa promises no one at home will ever hit you again!”
“Just the other day, you threw a tantrum and killed a hen—but did your grandma lay a finger on you? No! She even gave you both drumsticks to eat!”
Old Man Feng desperately tried to salvage their reputation, using the incident with the chicken as proof.
Huang Yaning sneered inwardly but kept her expression timid.
“But… after I ate the drumsticks, I felt dizzy. Brother Zhang said I’d been drugged…”
She still didn’t know exactly how the Feng family had knocked her out, but as the victim, whatever she said now would be believed.
Gasp—
The villagers were stunned. What had they just heard?
The Feng family had no bottom line! They’d have to stay far away from them from now on!
The village chief had always felt some sympathy for the Feng family’s sixth daughter. In his eyes, Liu Ya was capable, hardworking, and pretty.
The Fengs should’ve considered themselves lucky to have such a clever girl—yet they didn’t cherish her at all!
Now, after being pushed to her limits, Liu Ya wanted to find her birth mother. But in the chief’s opinion, her mother was just as foolish and wouldn’t protect her either.
What a tragedy!
All he could do was comfort her: “Don’t be afraid, Liu Ya. If you don’t want to go home, you can stay at Grandpa Chief’s house for a few days.”
Seeing the chief beckon her with a kind smile on his weathered face, Huang Yaning knew she wouldn’t be able to convince him to take her to the capital anytime soon.
Still, she wasn’t discouraged. Obediently, she walked over to him. “Thank you, Grandpa Chief. I’ll work hard.”
Unlike the villagers who were always eager for gossip and drama, the chief was a busy man. The Feng family’s repeated misbehavior disgusted him, and since Liu Ya didn’t want to stay with them anyway, he decided to take her to his own home.
But just then—
A blood-curdling shriek erupted from inside the Feng residence.
“HEAVENS—WHO STOLE MY MONEY?!”
“THAT WAS OUR LIFE SAVINGS!”
“HEARTLESS BASTARDS—I CAN’T GO ON LIVING!”
Xiao Li’s curses and wails pierced the sky, loud enough for the entire village to hear!
Then came Old Lady Li’s shrill screech: “What money?! You ungrateful wretch—after all I’ve done for you, you dared to hide private savings?! How much did you stash away?!”
The sound of drawers being yanked open and furniture being overturned followed, mixed with the shrieks of Second Uncle’s daughters.
It sounded like Xiao Li had stormed into Second Uncle’s room to “search” for her missing money.
Old Man Feng’s face had darkened the moment he heard Xiao Li’s scream. After hastily excusing himself from the chief, he rushed inside and slammed the gate shut behind him.
The chief’s brows furrowed deeply. Could the Feng family ever go a single day without causing trouble?
Meanwhile, the other villagers craned their necks, eager to catch a glimpse of the drama—but the Feng family’s walls were too high to see over.
Huang Yaning narrowed her eyes. So Xiao Li had finally realized her secret stash was gone?
She couldn’t miss this spectacle. Hurriedly, she said, “Grandpa Chief, something’s happened at home—I need to go back!”
Then she turned to a tall, gossip-loving teenager nearby and pleaded, “Big Brother, could you go in and open the gate for me? I’m worried about my family…”
The boy, already itching to see the drama, eagerly agreed.
Like an agile monkey, he scaled the wall, dropped into the Feng courtyard, and unlatched the gate from the inside.
Now that the gate was open, the entire Feng family’s chaos was on full display for the crowd outside.
Xiao Li, her hair disheveled and eyes bloodshot like a madwoman, burst out of Second Uncle’s room.
She must have gotten into a scuffle with Second Uncle’s daughters—her collar was torn, revealing a large patch of pale skin.
Though her disheveled state was highly inappropriate, Xiao Li clearly didn’t care. She charged straight toward Old Lady Li’s room.
Old Lady Li, furious, stepped forward and slapped her across the face.
“SMACK—”
“Have you lost your mind?! You dare search your in-laws’ room?!”
Old Lady Li and Xiao Li had once been aunt and niece, and their relationship had always been good.
After Xiao Li married into the Feng family and gave birth to two grandsons, Old Lady Li treated her even better.
But now that she’d learned Xiao Li had been secretly hoarding money behind her back, Old Lady Li was livid.
And seeing Xiao Li daring to barge into her room? That earned her a resounding slap.
Xiao Li, however, wasn’t one to take a beating lying down. She shoved Old Lady Li back with all her might.
The push sent Old Lady Li stumbling back several steps before she collapsed to the ground, moaning in pain and unable to get up.
“You heartless, shameless bitch!” Old Lady Li screeched. “Eldest! Second! Are you two dead?! Drag her out of there—NOW!”
Second Uncle, seeing his sister-in-law in such a disheveled state, didn’t dare lay hands on her. Old Man Feng, as the father-in-law, certainly couldn’t grab his daughter-in-law either.
Fuming, he jabbed a finger at Eldest Uncle and barked, “You deal with your wife!”
Eldest Uncle might have seemed honest on the outside, but inside, he was cunning.
He’d known about the secret savings all along—after slaving away for half their lives, he and Xiao Li had managed to stash away ten taels of silver and a string of copper coins.
Earlier, his wife, fearing that strange girl might return for revenge, had wanted to take some money and flee to her parents’ home with their sons for a few days.
That was when they discovered every last coin was gone.
They’d hidden the money in an extremely discreet spot, rarely checking it to avoid suspicion—only once or twice a month.
Yet somehow, a thief had found it and cleaned them out completely—not a single copper left!
How could Eldest Uncle not be furious?!
In fact, he was convinced his mother had taken it. Who else could have possibly found their hiding spot?!
Now that his wife was tearing the place apart to search his parents’ room, Eldest Uncle fully supported her. Why would he stop her?!
“Eldest—are you trying to kill me?!” Old Man Feng roared, seeing his eldest son refusing to obey.
Eldest Uncle pressed his lips together and said stiffly, “Dad, if my wife doesn’t vent her anger, she might really lose her mind. Just let her search.”
Old Man Feng trembled violently, looking like he might pass out from rage.
