My Amazing WeChat is Connected to the Three Realms - Chapter 87
“Mr. Lin, I am so sorry. I had no idea you were Commissioner Peng’s honored guest. Xiao Gou offers his sincerest apologies.” The security guard had jogged to catch up with Lin Hai, offering a flurry of apologies with an ingratiating smile.
“Xiao Gou? (Little Dog?)” Lin Hai was taken aback.
“Ah, my surname is Gou. You can just call me Xiao Gou,” the guard hurriedly explained.
Pfft!
Damn, and here I thought I’d heard every surname.
“Well then, Xiao Gou… that surname certainly matches your status and demeanor,” Lin Hai said sarcastically.
“Ah? Hehe, I still have much to improve, much to improve. Need to keep working hard,” the guard replied with a smile, waving his hands dismissively.
Lin Hai rolled his eyes.
For God’s sake, did he actually think that was a compliment?
Not bothering to waste more time on such a insignificant person, Lin Hai walked into Peng Tao’s office.
“Hello, Mr. Lin. We meet again!” Peng Tao stood up to greet him.
“Commissioner Peng, the old gentleman is better now, I trust?” Lin Hai shook Peng Tao’s hand.
“He is, completely recovered. It’s all thanks to you, Mr. Lin.”
“Don’t mention it. And your mother and sister, they are well too, I hope?” Lin Hai asked pointedly.
Peng Tao’s face flushed. Dammit, was he deliberately trying to embarrass him?
“They’ve gone abroad,” Peng Tao said evasively.
“Oh, abroad is good. Life overseas is so… vibrant. Your sister seemed quite adaptable, able to handle three people all by her—”
“Ahem, Mr. Lin,” Peng Tao quickly interjected, steering the conversation away. “The main reason I asked you here is to get a more detailed account of what happened in the morgue at the Fifth Hospital.”
Dammit, this Lin Hai was ruthless, always poking at the sore spots!
“Everything I know is already in my statement,” Lin Hai said, spreading his hands.
“Mr. Lin, don’t you find the timing of your car accident highly suspicious?” Peng Tao asked.
Oh, shit!
The mention of the car accident immediately got Lin Hai worked up.
Damn it, nobody had even brought up compensating him for his losses yet.
“Listen, Commissioner Peng, have you caught the driver who hit me? Forget the medical bills for now, but who’s going to pay for my car? That was over two million yuan!” Lin Hai demanded.
Peng Tao frowned. They were discussing the case, and here he was talking about compensation.
“The vehicle’s owner was also a victim. He was knocked out that day and hidden in a pile of cargo. Someone else was driving the truck that hit you.”
“Enough with the useless details. Just tell me, who’s paying for my car?” Lin Hai was far more concerned about the compensation.
“The truck bears full liability, but we need to apprehend the actual perpetrator before any compensation can be pursued. In such situations, insurance companies won’t payout either.”
What the hell? So basically, no one’s paying?
Lin Hai was furious.
“Mr. Lin, I have a feeling your accident wasn’t random, but a deliberate attempt on your life. Can you think of anyone who might hold a grudge against you?”
A grudge? Lin Hai thought about it. The only person who might qualify was Hu Wei, since he’d broken the guy’s fingers.
“Furthermore, your accident might be connected to the organ harvesting case from the corpses at the Fifth Hospital.”
“Hmm?” A thought suddenly occurred to Lin Hai.
“Commissioner Peng, are you familiar with an organization called the Black Eagle Society?”
“The Black Eagle Society?” Peng Tao’s brow furrowed. “It’s an organization with underworld connections.”
Well, I’ll be damned. So he knows about them. If he knew and still let them operate, this commissioner wasn’t exactly top-notch, Lin Hai thought.
“Why are you bringing up the Black Eagle Society?” Peng Tao asked, puzzled.
“I believe the mastermind behind both the Fifth Hospital incident and my hit-and-run is likely the Black Eagle Society!”
“Oh? What evidence do you have?” Peng Tao’s eyes lit up.
“I don’t have concrete evidence. But before I entered the morgue at the hospital, I was stopped by four men in black. Their attire was identical to the Black Eagle Society members I’ve encountered before.”
“Also, I do have a history with the Black Eagle Society. Because of someone named Hu Wei, I’ve clashed with them several times and even injured one of their so-called ‘Fourth Captains.'”
“Oh? There’s more to this?” Peng Tao expressed surprise.
“Right. So I’m certain it was them. You should send your men to arrest them,” Lin Hai said bluntly.
“It’s not that simple,” Peng Tao shook his head.
” ‘Black Eagle Society’ is their street name. Officially, they are a security company under the Hu Corporation. The Hu Corporation holds significant influence here in Jiangnan City. Without solid evidence, we can’t move against them rashly.”
“Damn, so we just have to let them get away with it?” Lin Hai was disappointed.
“Let’s just say the timing isn’t right yet.”
As they were speaking, a series of urgent knocks sounded at the door.
“Reporting!” A clear, female voice called out.
“Enter!” Peng Tao said authoritatively.
The door was pushed open with a thud, and Xu Tian walked in.
“Commissioner, I was trying to tell you, Lin Hai really isn’t dead! Earlier, while I was on duty—”
Xu Tian stopped mid-sentence.
“Ah! Lin Hai! What are you doing here?”
Peng Tao looked exasperated. If I waited for your report, the opportunity would have long passed.
Seeing Xu Tian come in, Lin Hai immediately felt a familiar sense of dread.
Dammit, this girl looks so sweet, so why is she so ruthless?
“You’re asking me? You’re just a traffic cop. Shouldn’t you be out on patrol instead of bothering your commissioner in his office?” Lin Hai teased.
“Hmph, none of your business! I’ve been assigned to the ‘Case 6.6’ task force. I’m a member now, entitled to report to the commissioner at any time,” Xu Tian declared, puffing out her chest, her eyes full of pride.
“Hmph, task force or not, you’re still a traffic cop, right? What about my car that got smashed?”
“Well… once we solve the case, the perpetrator will compensate you.”
Lin Hai rolled his eyes. Dammit, same line as your boss. By the time you solve the case, who knows how long it’ll be.
Looks like he needed to go car shopping again.
“Oh, right! How did you escape from the car that day? Tell me! You have no idea, it’s become a legend in our traffic police division,” Xu Tian’s innate gossipy nature suddenly surfaced.
“Well, I employed a Ghost-Dispelling Technique. Had some little ghosts carry me out. They were quite fierce, those little ghosts,” Lin Hai said, making a scary face at Xu Tian.
“Pfft, what nonsense,” Xu Tian scoffed, pursing her lips.
Peng Tao chuckled too, but then suddenly jolted with realization.
“Mr. Lin, are you… telling the truth?” Peng Tao asked, a look of astonishment on his face.
To think this Lin Hai is so formidable, he can actually command spirits!
“Commissioner, don’t listen to his nonsense. There are no such things as ghosts in this world! And even if there were, they wouldn’t obey him,” Xu Tian said, wrinkling her cute little nose at Lin Hai.
“No ghosts in this world?” Peng Tao shook his head.
Before, he too would have firmly believed that talk of ghosts and spirits was superstitious nonsense.
If anyone tried to pull that mystical stuff in front of him, he would have scoffed and probably reprimanded them!
But after meeting Lin Hai, his perspective had completely changed.
What happened to his father and in his home left him no choice but to believe that ghosts and spirits did indeed exist.
Recalling Lin Hai’s inexplicable and bizarre disappearance after the accident, Peng Tao found himself completely believing Lin Hai’s explanation!
Who else but spirits could have done such a thing?
“Mr. Lin, this Ghost-Dispelling Technique… it’s truly miraculous?” Peng Tao’s tone unconsciously carried a new note of respect.
“Commissioner, what are you talking about?” Xu Tian asked, bewildered.
“Officer Xu, Mr. Lin is no ordinary man,” Peng Tao said, not elaborating further. Some things were better left unsaid.
“But he’s clearly—” Xu Tian’s words were cut off as a police officer walked in, his expression grave.
“Commissioner, we have another major case!”
