- Chapter 73 - Something's Not Right With Your Head
“Sir, what’s your name?”
The elderly gentleman opened his mouth and said, “My name is Tang Weimin.”
As soon as Tang Weimin opened his mouth, a wave of foul-smelling breath hit Qin Jiang, nearly knocking him over on the spot.
Qin Jiang quickly stood up and took several steps back. He leaned close to Liu Yan, taking a few deep breaths before he managed to recover.
Liu Yan’s face flushed red, but she didn’t move away. It seemed her decision to wear perfume today was a wise one. Tang Weimin’s mouth was truly unbearable—it was practically like a cesspool!
Tang Weimin seemed to have expected this reaction. He looked at Qin Jiang with an embarrassed expression, too ashamed to speak.
Tang Ping explained from the side, “Dr. Qin, my dad’s breath wasn’t bad before. It’s only recently, for some reason, that it suddenly became this foul.”
“Dr. Qin, could you take a look and figure out what’s wrong? If you can help cure my dad’s bad breath, our whole family would be grateful to you.”
Tang Ping’s gaze was sincere. Though embarrassed, Tang Weimin also looked at Qin Jiang with a glimmer of hope. It was clear he had been suffering greatly from this condition.
Because of the bad breath, not only were others unwilling to chat with him, but even his own family couldn’t bear it and had to keep their distance. He couldn’t even eat at the table with them anymore and had to eat separately.
Only after putting on a mask did Qin Jiang slowly sit back down.
“Grandpa Tang, when I ask you questions later, please try not to speak directly toward me.”
Tang Weimin nodded to show he understood.
“Grandpa, did this bad breath come on suddenly?”
Tang Weimin lowered his head, speaking downward. “I had a little bad breath before, but nothing this severe.”
“Besides dizziness and nausea recently, have you had any other symptoms?”
Tang Weimin thought carefully before replying, “Another thing is, when I drink water or eat, I always feel a metallic, rusty taste.”
Hearing about the metallic taste, Qin Jiang frowned, his expression turning serious. If someone can taste metal, it usually means they’re tasting blood. Could it be bleeding in the throat or digestive tract?
Not daring to delay, Qin Jiang took out a tongue depressor, held his breath, and had Tang Weimin open his mouth. Using a flashlight, he looked inside.
After examining for a while, Qin Jiang couldn’t find any bleeding points. Was the bleeding further down?
Just as Qin Jiang was about to look a little deeper, a sudden glint of light reflected from Tang Weimin’s throat. It flashed so briefly that Qin Jiang almost thought he was seeing things.
Qin Jiang examined carefully and confirmed there was indeed something in Tang Weimin’s mouth, likely a metallic object.
After checking the oral cavity, Qin Jiang sat back on his stool.
He studied Tang Weimin with a furrowed brow for a moment before asking, “You haven’t put anything strange in your mouth, have you?”
Hearing this, the netizens in the live stream immediately became restless.
“Why is Dr. Qin asking that? Could it mean…”
“It shouldn’t be that extreme, right? Is the old man really that wild?”
“Wow, the older ginger is indeed spicier. This is possible?”
“You think who are the ones dancing salsa in the park? Your elders will always outdo you.”
“At least the old man has a basic pension. What do young people have? Debts?”
“Bro, your ‘debts’ comment just broke my heart. Been working for years, not only no savings, but actually in debt.”
Tang Weimin, unaware of the online buzz he was causing, quickly waved his hands at Qin Jiang. “Dr. Qin, our family has always been very strict about health. I wouldn’t eat random things, and I definitely don’t eat takeout.”
“Alright then. Put your hand here, let me check your pulse.”
Tang Weimin obediently placed his hand on the desk.
As soon as Qin Jiang felt the pulse, his eyes widened in surprise.
Tang Ping, standing beside them, grew nervous. “How is it, Dr. Qin? Is there something wrong with my dad’s health?”
“No,” Qin Jiang said very seriously. “Your father’s body is even healthier, more robust, than the average young man’s.”
“Grandpa, what did you do before?”
Tang Weimin grinned. “I farmed the fields. A few years ago, our land was taken, so I couldn’t farm anymore. That’s why I came to the city with my son.”
“City life is good, but I just can’t sit idle.”
Tang Ping added, “My dad served in the army before. He’s very disciplined. He goes for a run every morning and again in the evening.”
“Over the years, my dad really hasn’t had any health issues. It’s just this bad breath problem that we haven’t been able to solve.”
So he was a veteran. Qin Jiang understood now. Despite Tang Weimin’s cheerful demeanor now, those who served in the army in his era and survived were tough individuals. People back then had purer thoughts, fewer complicated ideas. Loyalty to the country and the people was their sole creed for serving.
After a moment of silence, Qin Jiang said, “Grandpa’s body is indeed strong, but there is inflammation inside, and it’s not minor. I suspect there might be an internal issue. We need to get a scan to confirm.”
Tang Ping hesitated. “Dr. Qin, are you suggesting my dad should go to a big hospital for this?”
Qin Jiang waved his hand. “No need. We can do it right here.”
Tang Ping was even more surprised, looking around the classic-style traditional Chinese medicine clinic. “Here… you can do scans?”
Qin Jiang chuckled. “Couldn’t before, but now we can.”
“Grandpa, come with me.”
Tang Weimin followed Qin Jiang into the pharmacy. Liu Yan and the camera crew tried to enter but were stopped by Qin Jiang.
“You can’t come into the pharmacy. But I’ll give you a network link. You can stream this feed into your live broadcast.”
Liu Yan acknowledged and followed Qin Jiang’s instructions with the link.
As a smaller window appeared within the live stream, the netizens were stunned.
“Whoa, is this a hospital?”
“I’ve never seen such a high-tech setup in a hospital. Are we sure this is inside a TCM clinic?”
“Wow, I thought Dr. Qin having this clinic was impressive enough. I didn’t expect him to have medical equipment like this. Amazing!”
While the netizens discussed, Qin Jiang had already brought Tang Weimin into the examination room. Qin Jiang first had Tang Weimin change into a hospital gown. After confirming he had no other items on him, Qin Jiang had him lie down on the equipment to begin the examination.
As the equipment started, real-time X-ray images of Tang Weimin appeared on the screen.
Upon seeing the X-ray, Qin Jiang’s expression immediately changed.
But the netizens watching the stream couldn’t understand and started asking questions.
“What does this image mean? I know that’s the head, but why is there a white shadow in the middle?”
“A white shadow indicates a foreign object in the brain. Judging by the shape… it looks a lot like a knife.”
The netizens in the live stream were bewildered.
A knife?
This old man has a knife in his head?
How is that possible!
