- Chapter 28 - I Don't Tell Fortunes, But I Read Pulses
In the hearts of Zhong Yue and his wife, Zhong Zihan had always been a good girl who loved studying and never gave them any cause for worry.
After getting into university, unlike her peers who sought fun and leisure, Zihan aimed to study abroad and was actively preparing for it.
When Zihan started coughing recently, the couple assumed she had caught a cold or fever from studying too hard, so they casually found a TCM clinic for a check-up.
But then Qin Jiang immediately claimed their daughter had been soaking in hot springs with some guy.
How could they tolerate that!
In his agitation, Zhong Yue reached out to grab Qin Jiang by the collar.
“You quack! How dare you slander my daughter’s reputation!”
“Come with me, I’m reporting you to the health authorities today!”
As soon as Zhong Yue’s hand moved, Qin Jiang caught his wrist and pressed down. Zhong Yue let out a cry of pain, his whole body freezing up as if electrocuted.
Li Rou fretted helplessly on the side, urging Qin Jiang to let her husband go immediately.
Qin Jiang said calmly, “This is a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, a place for treating illnesses and saving lives.”
“If you don’t want treatment, you can leave. But if you lay a hand on me, don’t blame me for not being polite.”
Although Qin Jiang had never formally learned martial arts, with his current understanding of the human body’s bones and acupoints, dealing with Zhong Yue was effortless.
Qin Jiang released his grip. Zhong Yue stumbled back two steps as if he’d seen a ghost, looking at Qin Jiang with shock.
Li Rou, unwilling to let it go, took out her phone.
“We’re calling the police! We’ll have him arrested right now!”
“This quack talks nonsense and even dares to hit people!”
Liu Yan, watching from the side, couldn’t stand it any longer.
She pointed at the camera. “You two, we are live-streaming this entire session. We have recorded all your verbal abuse and physical attempt towards Dr. Qin.”
“If you want to call the police, we will provide the video evidence.”
Hearing this, Li Rou hesitated.
It was true that Zhong Yue had moved first. If they really involved the police, they might not necessarily have the upper hand.
Just as Li Rou was unsure what to do, Zhong Yue’s attitude did a complete one-eighty. He exclaimed excitedly, “A miracle doctor!”
Everyone was stunned, unsure what had come over Zhong Yue.
Zhong Yue moved his wrist around, speaking with delight. “Because of my work, I’ve had tenosynovitis in my right wrist for over ten years. But somehow, after you grabbed it just now, the pain is gone!”
Qin Jiang took a calm sip of tea, saying nothing more.
He had already noticed the unnatural movement in Zhong Yue’s right wrist, so he had taken the opportunity to treat it.
Now, Zhong Yue had no doubts about Qin Jiang’s medical skill.
He had visited many major hospitals for his tenosynovitis. Without exception, they all advised conservative treatment and rest.
None had ever actually cured it.
Yet just now, after Qin Jiang’s brief manipulation, the tenosynovitis was gone!
If that didn’t make him a miracle doctor, what did?
Witnessing her husband’s complete change of heart, Li Rou couldn’t help but ask, “Lao Zhong, are you serious? You really think this doctor is capable?”
Zhong Yue ignored his wife’s doubt. Instead, he turned and glared fiercely at Zhong Zihan.
“Answer the doctor’s question honestly, right now. If you dare lie, I’ll make you regret it today!”
Having personally experienced Qin Jiang’s skill, Zhong Yue naturally believed Qin Jiang’s earlier line of questioning.
Zhong Zihan was dumbfounded.
She never expected things to turn so suddenly!
Just moments ago, when her parents were angry, Zihan thought she could use the situation to her advantage and persuade them to leave.
How did her father suddenly switch to the doctor’s side?
“Why are you looking at me? Answer the doctor’s question!”
Zihan flinched, stammering, “I… I have been bathing quite a bit recently.”
She tried to downplay it, but Qin Jiang wasn’t having it.
He tapped the table with his index finger, speaking seriously. “Listen carefully. I asked if you’ve been soaking in hot springs frequently, not if you’ve been bathing often.”
Zihan was on the verge of tears.
Could this young doctor read minds or tell fortunes?
How did he know?
Zihan desperately wanted to evade the question, but under Zhong Yue’s intense stare, she had no choice. Biting her lip, she admitted, “My classmate’s family runs a hot spring place… their new branch opened last week, so they invited a few of us to hang out for a few days…”
She grew more apprehensive with each word.
Li Rou looked at her daughter with disbelief.
She had always trusted Zihan. She never imagined her daughter would lie to them!
Zhong Yue asked sternly, “This classmate you mentioned, male or female?”
Zihan stammered, “Both… there were several of us who went together.”
Seeing her father’s dark expression, Zihan quickly added, “But I was only with my girlfriends the whole time! I didn’t have any close contact with boys!”
“That’s not right.”
Qin Jiang spoke up at that moment.
“You should have soaked in a hot spring with a boy. The cold pool. Just the two of you.”
Zihan’s eyes widened, staring at Qin Jiang in disbelief. The words slipped out before she could stop herself.
“How did you know that!”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt the death glare from her father.
A university student going to hot springs with classmates? Normal.
But soaking alone with one specific boy in a cold pool? That was definitely not normal!
As Zhong Yue advanced step by step, Zihan was terrified.
“Dad, it’s true, I did soak with Zhou Wu! But we didn’t do anything, I swear!”
“I swear to heaven, we really didn’t do anything! He kept his distance!”
At this inopportune moment, Qin Jiang spoke again. “That doesn’t seem right. Given your current condition, it doesn’t look like ‘nothing’ happened.”
Furious, Zihan slammed her hand on the table!
“You’re just a doctor, not a fortune teller! How could you possibly know whether we did anything or not!”
“Dad, don’t listen to his nonsense! He’s a fraud!”
Doubt flickered across Zhong Yue’s face.
Li Rou tugged at his arm, advising, “Lao Zhong, don’t be impulsive. She has a point. He’s just a doctor, how could he know all that?”
Qin Jiang turned his head and spat the tea leaves in his mouth onto the ground. He said mildly,
“I certainly don’t tell fortunes, but I do read pulses.”
“Your Zihan is pregnant. It can’t possibly be asexual reproduction, can it?”
“As for whether the baby belongs to that Zhou Wu, I truly don’t know. You’ll have to wait until it’s born for a paternity test.”
As soon as Qin Jiang finished speaking, all color drained from Zhong Zihan’s face.
Zhong Yue’s rage peaked, and Li Rou nearly fainted on the spot.
