Immortal Cultivation: Starting as a Fortune Cultivator - Chapter 1
“Twelve years… time sure passes slowly, doesn’t it?”
Ye Qingxuan stepped out of the library, dressed in a blue robe. His handsome face bore a look of contentment as he stretched lazily and let out a slight sigh.
It had been twelve years since he arrived in this world.
From what he had learned so far, this world was called the Di Xuan Realm, divided into nine domains.
These consisted of the five inner domains: Central, Eastern, Southern, Western, and Northern.
And the four outer domains: Eastern Extreme, Southern Wilds, Western Wastes, and Northern Expanse.
Each domain was further divided into ninety-nine great provinces. Even the smallest of these provinces was over a hundred times larger than the planet Earth from his previous life.
It was vast beyond measure. An ordinary person could spend their entire life without ever leaving a single great province, and the number of prefectures and counties under each province was countless.
Ye Qingxuan’s current location was within the Ye Immortal City, in the Greenwood Prefecture, part of the Daoguang County, located in the Qing Province of the Eastern Domain of the Di Xuan Realm.
More importantly, this world possessed the cultivation system he had once yearned for in his previous life.
All this knowledge was something he had learned from the very library he just exited.
The library was established by the Ye Family specifically to broaden the horizons of their mortal clansmen; it contained basic common knowledge and some information about the Qing Province.
Because Ye Immortal City was extremely large, there were thousands of such libraries scattered throughout the city.
He had died unexpectedly in his previous life, never imagining he would be reborn through transmigration into this world, experiencing the kind of adventures he had only read about in novels.
When he first arrived, after the initial panic faded, he was consumed by curiosity about this new world.
So, ever since he learned to read, he had frequently visited the library to understand this world.
In this life, although he was born into an ordinary family, he was still a mortal clansman of the Ye Family, a Golden Core family.
It wasn’t the best starting hand, but it wasn’t too bad either.
“I’m so excited! Tomorrow is the family’s annual spirit root test. I’m twelve this year, finally old enough to meet the requirement.”
Thinking of this, a mix of anticipation and nervousness filled Ye Qingxuan’s heart, and his footsteps unconsciously quickened on his way home.
Ever since he learned of the existence of cultivators, he had been eagerly awaiting this moment, while also dreading it.
“Spirit root… These twelve years have been torture. But, tomorrow there will be a result. This feeling of not being in control of my own destiny is truly unsettling.”
Ye Qingxuan suddenly stopped, took a deep breath, and let it out slowly. After calming his emotions a little, he continued walking.
As he walked, the streets were filled with coming and going members of the Ye clan, but Ye Qingxuan wasn’t familiar with most of them.
This was because, although Ye Immortal City was just a single city, its area was astonishingly vast, home to well over ten million people.
However, most of the city’s inhabitants were mere mortals without any cultivation. The true cultivating members of the Ye family mostly lived and practiced on the spiritual mountains and veins not far outside the city.
Although the Ye family was only a Golden Core family, it had been passed down for ten thousand years.
Accumulated over such a long time, the Ye family now had over ten thousand cultivating clansmen, and their mortal clansmen numbered over ten million.
This was the population after control measures were implemented due to insufficient territory; otherwise, the number of mortal clansmen would be even greater.
There was no helping it. Although the Ye family was a Golden Core family, in the region of Qing Province, they weren’t particularly powerful. Their allotted territory consisted of only this single city and its surroundings.
However, the area for ten thousand miles around the city was considered Ye family territory.
It was just that mortals were too fragile and could only live within the city or various resource outposts under the protection of the cultivating clansmen, which limited the population.
After all, a single wild beast or low-level demon beast appearing outside could be something mortals were powerless against.
Ye Qingxuan walked a considerable distance before arriving at the entrance of a courtyard house.
Entering his home, Ye Qingxuan saw his mother busy working and called out:
“Mother, I’m back!”
Hearing his voice, Ye Qingxin looked up, delighted to see her precious son:
“Xuan’er, take a seat. Dinner will be ready soon.”
Hearing his mother, Ye Qingxuan nodded. He glanced around the courtyard but didn’t see his father, so he asked:
“Mother, where’s father? Isn’t he back yet?”
When Ye Qingxuan asked, Ye Qingxin stopped her work, put her hands on her hips, and said coldly:
“Your father went out to play chess again. Never see a trace of him all day. He’d better not come back for dinner, hmph!”
Seeing his mother’s expression, Ye Qingxuan wisely didn’t comment. He pursed his lips and shook his head helplessly, but didn’t pay it too much mind.
As a mortal child of the Ye clan, while most couldn’t be enormously wealthy, backed by the Ye family, they could at least be well-clothed and fed.
They didn’t need to toil hard. Just taking on the occasional small tasks assigned by the clan allowed them to live comfortably.
A short while later, just as Mother Ye was almost finished preparing dinner, a middle-aged man ambled in through the gate.
The man first glanced at Mother Ye’s unhappy face, scratched his head, then looked at Ye Qingxuan and laughed:
“Xuan’er, you’re back! Tomorrow is the family’s spirit root test day. How are you feeling? Nervous?”
Ye Qingxuan shook his head and smiled, saying:
“Father, I’m not nervous!”
Yet, his hands were unconsciously clenched tightly.
Seeing his son’s state, Ye Qingyou stepped forward and patted Ye Qingxuan’s shoulder:
“Heh, don’t be nervous. Your old man took the test back in the day. It is what it is. I didn’t have a spirit root, but haven’t I lived quite comfortably? Hahaha!”
Ye Qingyou didn’t hold much hope. The spirit root thing was basically a one-in-a-thousand chance; it would be normal if his son didn’t have one either.
He just saw that Ye Qingxuan was tense and wanted to counsel him, to help him relax a bit.
Just then, Mother Ye walked over, directly pinched Father Ye’s ear, and scolded angrily:
“Enough of that. Don’t you go corrupting our son with your idle ways all day. What’s wrong with our son? Maybe Xuan’er will have a spirit root?”
“Ow, ow, ow, that hurts! Dear, let go, alright? I admit I was wrong!”
Watching his parents bicker and scold, Ye Qingxuan’s heart relaxed somewhat.
Being able to live a second life was already a profit. Why fret over gains and losses he couldn’t control?
Besides, it wasn’t like he was completely without his own assets.
After dinner, Ye Qingxuan returned to his room, sat cross-legged on his bed, and focused his attention inward, into his mind.
Having lived two lives, Ye Qingxuan’s soul seemed to have undergone special tempering. Even without formal cultivation, he could already look inward into the space of his mind.
There, in the center of his mind, within a special space, a faint projection of Ye Qingxuan slowly materialized.
Before him, floating at the very center of this mental space, was a mysterious yellowish pearl and a small, glazed turtle!
This pearl was a family heirloom from his previous life. He had always carried it with him back then, and never expected it to cross over into this world with him.
So far, however, Ye Qingxuan hadn’t managed to glean any information from the pearl.
As for the small glazed turtle, it was a avatar he had accidentally bonded with upon transmigrating—the Eternal Turtle!
The Eternal Turtle was a rare species among the heavens, living deep within dimensional spaces, never appearing in the mortal realm. It possessed two major characteristics: Immunity to All Magic and Eternal Lifespan.
Its only flaw was having no offensive power whatsoever.
However, for some unknown reason, the Eternal Turtle avatar in his mind couldn’t be manifested. It seemed suppressed by some force.
Fortunately, after Ye Qingxuan transmigrated and accidentally bonded with the Eternal Turtle as his avatar, his main body inherited one of its traits: Eternal Lifespan.
It was a pity it was Eternal Lifespan, not Immortality. Although he no longer had a lifespan limit, he was still not immune to external harm.
But even so, with the Eternal Lifespan trait, as long as he possessed a spirit root, no matter how poor his innate talent, he was confident he could reach the peak.
Thinking of this, Ye Qingxuan opened his eyes again, a fiery passion shining within them that took a long time to settle.
With such fortuitous encounters, he refused to believe he wouldn’t have a spirit root.
