As An Antique Shop Owner, It's Only Reasonable That I Know A Bit Of Magic - Chapter 25
“Another damn cloudy day…”
Sitting in the car, the detective listened to the howling wind outside and couldn’t help but grumble.
The temperature had been gradually dropping lately, and the skies had grown increasingly gloomy.
Against this dreary backdrop, he still had to keep a close eye on that so-called Sister Abigail and her lover.
Surveillance duty was something he hadn’t done since being promoted to detective—now it was like reliving the tough old days of being a beat cop.
After his last investigation with Su Fan, he had realized that their targets were no ordinary foes. They wielded dark arts he had never even heard of.
So, he had been extra cautious during this stakeout. Case in point? He hadn’t even turned on the car’s AC.
The protective talisman Su Fan had given him was tucked safely inside his coat pocket.
For days, Sister Abigail had shown no movement, staying within the welfare center for meals and lodging.
But the detective’s instincts as an investigator told him they were about to make their move.
Sure enough, at noon today, he saw the black nun leave the welfare center.
The detective immediately sent a text message and then drove after her.
…
“Mr. Su, the detective just sent word.”
Karl, sitting in the police car, turned to report to Su Fan in the back seat.
“Finally, they couldn’t hold back any longer.”
Su Fan closed the Taoist scripture in his hands.
After secretly setting up her trap at the antique shop, that old woman had grown increasingly bold in her actions against the Coleman family, believing she had nothing left to fear.
Su Fan had instructed Karl to show Kate the surveillance footage precisely to force the conflict to a head.
Just as expected, under the influence of the voodoo curse, John and Kate had a falling-out, and he had stormed off to their suburban villa.
Now, with only the woman and children left in the Coleman household, it was the perfect opportunity for their enemies to strike.
The two masterminds had finally taken the bait—it was time to act.
“Karl, let’s move.”
“Understood, Mr. Su.”
Karl fastened his seatbelt and started the engine but hesitated.
“Should we head to the Coleman house first, or the suburban villa?”
Right now, the detective was already tailing Sister Abigail, ready to make his move.
Priorities mattered—compared to the dwarf woman, the black nun who wielded voodoo was far more dangerous.
But instead of making the call himself, Karl deferred to Su Fan’s judgment.
“To the suburban villa.”
“Got it.”
Karl drove off without hesitation, though the glance he shot Su Fan in the rearview mirror betrayed his confusion.
Noticing his expression, Su Fan finally spoke.
“The reason you’re puzzled is that you haven’t grasped the core motives of the enemies on both sides.”
“The dwarf woman may be stunted in growth, but that doesn’t mean she can’t function in society.”
“The real reason she pretends to be a child is her twisted longing for intimacy.”
“Think about it—with her body and personality, would any normal person want to be with her?”
“By posing as a child, she can receive affection and protection from adult men without consequence, feeding her desperate craving for ‘love.’”
“You’ve mentioned before how brazenly she talks about certain topics—that’s her warped desire for sex. This perverse fixation drives her to cling to men at any cost and eliminate any women in their lives.”
“Once she achieves that first step, what do you think comes next?”
Following Su Fan’s reasoning, Karl quickly arrived at the answer.
“She wants to… sleep with John? That’s disgusting. No sane man would ever agree to that.”
“Exactly. And after being rejected, the humiliated dwarf woman would likely turn violent. John would be in danger, and so would Kate if she went after them.”
Su Fan continued his analysis.
“Don’t forget, she’s had help from the black nun—she knows some dark tricks. Dealing with two ordinary people would be nothing to her.”
“Compared to that, the children are actually safer for now.”
Karl was stunned.
“Why?”
“Because those bodies are exactly what the masterminds covet most. Why would they harm them?”
Su Fan’s tone sent a chill down Karl’s spine, as if the temperature in the car had dropped.
The police car sped through the streets, sirens blaring, encountering no obstacles. Soon, they reached their destination.
The two got out, cutting through the villa’s front greenery straight to the door.
Karl drew his gun, flicked off the safety, and tensed up, moving cautiously.
Meanwhile, Su Fan strode ahead without hesitation, quickly overtaking him.
“Mr. Su, you—”
—should be careful.
Before Karl could finish, Su Fan reached the door.
Instead of trying to open it, he placed his palm against the wood—then pushed with sudden force!
Wood splinters and dust rained down as the door shattered inward with a sharp crack, collapsing flat onto the floor!
Before Karl could react in shock, the thick stench of blood hit him.
On the living room floor lay a bloodied man—John—motionless, his condition unknown.
Not far away, on a bloodstained couch, a figure let out a choked, gurgling sound.
One hand clutched at their throat while the other weakly lifted, as if trying to point somewhere.
“Hands where I can see them!”
Karl instinctively aimed his gun—only to realize in horror that it was Kate!
Her body was streaked with blood, drag marks beneath her.
Despite the deep wound in her neck, she struggled desperately, her trembling finger straining toward—
Karl lowered his gun, about to rush to her aid, when danger struck from the shadows.
A small figure suddenly dropped from above!
In its hands, a fire axe glinted coldly—too fast for any normal person to react.
But Su Fan was faster.
His leg lashed out mid-air, sending the attacker flying like a cannonball into the wall.
The dwarf woman—Lena—coughed up blood, clearly severely injured by the blow.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye. Only after two seconds did Karl process what had just occurred.
John and Kate had undoubtedly fallen victim to Lena’s cruelty.
But before she could finish Kate off, she had heard them arriving.
Cunningly, she had dragged Kate to the couch, using the wounded woman and John’s body as bait to distract Karl and Su Fan while she lurked above, waiting to ambush them.
Her first target had been Karl—the armed threat.
But she never expected Su Fan to react so swiftly, intercepting her mid-air with pinpoint precision!
As realization dawned, cold sweat drenched Karl’s back.
To use the wounded and the dead as decoys—the sheer malice and cunning of this dwarf woman once again surpassed his worst expectations!
